Engaging in a contract with Meridith Baer Home has resulted in the single most WORST consumer experience of my life. My husband and I incurred a financial loss of $21,000.00 after entering into a contract for home staging of our 5.5-million-dollar property located in Bluff Park (long beach) that we were preparing for sale. Our experience commenced when Mary from Meridith Baer Home visited our property for an initial consultation. Mary walked the property pointing to just about every piece of furnishing stating "this must go" and "this must go". Despite our home being fully furnished, Mary assured us that Meridith Baer Home could far improve on our current furnishings by implementing an elevated and cohesive transitional design utilizing new or near-new furnishings. Mary informed us that Meridith Baer Home "only utilizes furnishings ONCE or perhaps twice" before donating them. So, we signed the contract, gave Meridith Baer Home $21,000.00 and donated practically all of our furnishings, artwork, and accessories. The staging installation was scheduled as a two-day process. At the end of day one my husband and I went to the property to meet the designer and assess the progress. We were in utter disbelief of the condition and style of the furnishings that had been delivered. The furniture/furnishings were old, damaged, broken, stained, had a terrible odor, and in general, in terrible condition. Not the "transitional design using new furniture" that was promised by Mary or what is shown in Meridith Baer Home social media. We contacted Mary and arranged for a meeting first thing on day two. During our meeting, Mary, the project designer, our real estate agent, and myself conducted a walkthrough of the property. Mary agreed that all existing furnishings should be removed, and other furnishings should be brought in. We presented Mary with the broken furniture, stains on the sofa, odors in the rugs, and the poor quality of the artwork. We expressed our concerns about the significant deviation from the promised conditions. Mary consistently interrupted our questions and only responded with the phrase, "It will be fixed." At the conclusion of the walkthrough, my husband requested a private conversation with Mary, excluding the designer and our realtor. He wanted to discuss the situation candidly and understand the reasons behind the discrepancies between the promised and actual conditions. Mary responded by stating that no private conversations would be held, as the designer was in a position of authority and could address any concerns directly. My husband, avoiding any potential embarrassment for the designer, chose to remain silent and refrain from further discussion. Upon leaving the meeting, we were informed that the following day, the existing furnishings would be removed, and suitable replacements would be delivered. Later that evening, while reviewing the security camera footage, we discovered a video recording of Mary and the designer engaged in a conversation in front of our Ring video doorbell. In this conversation, Mary made light of and mocked my husband's request for a private discussion. This revelation led us to conclude that we could not proceed with the project, as we believed that Mary and her team were not acting in good faith. We contacted our realtor and requested that he inform Mary about the recording and our decision to withdraw from the Meridith Baer Home project. Our realtor informed us shortly thereafter that he had been instructed to request that we submit a written cancellation of the staging to Meridith Baer Home. That same day, we submitted our cancellation and requested that all of their property be removed from our home and that a refund be issued. The property was removed several days later, but no refund was issued. When the property was removed, their staff took hours to remove it. After reviewing our security camera footage, I could see real-time that the staff was lying around on the furniture and overall, fooling around without working. Again, how very disrespectful to conduct themselves this way in someone's home. In conclusion, although we sought legal counsel to recover our $21,000.00 loss, our counselor advised that the cost of seeking a refund and the personal time spent attempting to recover this loss might not be worth our while. Therefore, this was a $21,000.00 lesson. The Meridith Baer Home contract is completely one-sided. We signed the contract against our better judgement. My husband and I are both business owners and in our businesses we would have NEVER signed a contract that offered ZERO protections to us. Given the Meridith Baer Home "name" we decided (against our better judgment) to trust the name and brand. This was not a wise choice. After this fiasco, we did additional research and found that our story is not unique. There are lawsuits on the internet representing the same exact experience we had. So many issues to list, but those that stood out the most were miscommunication, weak staging, and expensive pricing. We had a very disappointing experience with the MB. We are located in Rancho Mirage, CA After meeting with their sales person, we signed a contract for them to stage our 5,000 SF home for $18K. The plan was to mingle their items with our existing art and furniture. After they wanted to replace some of our items ($10K consoles and $5K chairs) and store them in our garage, we decided to reduce what items they would provide by about 40%. After they completed staging, we asked the sales person (Mary Dembo) to adjust the pricing as a result of them using fewer of their items and were told that they were unwilling to give us a price reduction. In addition, we ended up with a broken window and holes in numerous walls throughout the home (attached). Mary Dembo told us that they weren't responsible for the broken window although they and our realtor were the only people on the property at the time it was broken. The WORST. I pushed my clients to use MB vs a stager whose work they'd recently seen and loved. Worst mistake ever-client will never work with me again. The MB designer assigned to project had zero taste-like less than zero. It was like she took acid right before pulling the pieces for this project. We were very specific about the esthetic and audience we were targeting in selling this home and the designer chose her own audience (think Fyre Festival) and did whatever she wanted. They were 2 hrs late on the day of staging. I specifically asked everyone to use 1 of the 4 bathrooms and the workers made sure to use every single flipping one. They did this on the day of the staging #1, staging #2 and on the day of removal. In one bathroom, a worker (who probably should see a urologist) had taken time to carefully pee into the crevices of the hinges/bolts that secure the toilet seat to the toilet. These were BRAND new toilets! I had to pay a cleaning service to clean the bathrooms (including removing the hinges to get the deep orange pee stains off), dust and wipe the furniture and vacuum the rugs and sofas out of my own pocket. The workers travel with a microwave to heat their food but not one vacuum or even a dustbuster could be found. The first round of furniture was so bad that they had to come back to restage almost everything-it was bad bad! The second staging wasn't great-I offered to meet them at their warehouse to pull pieces with them, but they gave me the excuse that the furniture is wrapped and I wouldn't be able to see it. The furniture, rugs and lamps were old, very very used and dirty. Scratches on wooden furniture were touched up with Sharpies. Lampshades had stains and smudges. Anything with glass had stains, smears and scratches. One of the sectionals had such a malodorous smell that we had to keep a window open and burn candles during showings. Fabric headboards were visibly dirty with smudges. The mattresses were FILTHY! They were covered with clean linens, but just knowing how filthy they were was disgusting. Random pieces of masking tape with writing on it was left visible on 1 in 4 items. They used hooks that were unnecessarily oversized to hang art-leaving large holes. They scrapped and scratched freshly painted walls. I had my clients pay $12,000 for what looked like used furniture from Cost Plus World Market that had been stored in a dirty garage and put out on the lawn for a Saturday yard sale. In fact, to entertain myself, I priced purchasing brand new furniture from Living Spaces and it came out cheaper than what my clients paid. And to be clear, this was not a Living Spaces house-it was a $3,000,000 property. We would have done better using CORT (are they even still around?) Do you think they did a survey after the staging to ask how they did? Absolutely not. Shame shame shame on Meridith Baer. Her name used to really mean something. If she cared about her name/brand, she would do surveys with every client. I will NEVER ever use Meridith Baer again-not in this life or the next! read more

You definitely get what you pay for and more with Meredith Baer Home. I had the absolute pleasure of working with Mattie as my Account Executive and Alex as my Designer. From the start, Mattie was super responsive and great with insurance requirements for my HOA and handling my scheduling needs. Alex listened to my likes and dislikes (I used Pinterest boards to show her my "dislikes" and another for my "loves")! It's not often that you get a designer that understands what a client wants. From there, Alex ran with my basic ideas and turned them into well rounded designs that flow naturally with my downtown LA loft. The look is a cozy, sophisticated, and modern look that pleases the eye and soothes the soul. Every person I show my unit to is in awe with the staging and how well it all came together. If you're looking for stagers and want to attract luxury buyers and renters, make sure you look strictly at the furniture in their portfolios and don't get fooled by the photography or architecture that the furniture is sitting in. Meridith Baer came highly recommended as the best staging company in Los Angeles. The original presentation was great and the designer provided great strategies and ideas. The final product photographed well but was not overwhelming in person. Many of the larger pieces of furniture were marked up undoubtedly from moving cycles. Some of the promised details were never provided in the children's room. They installed a lamp that when plugged in and turned on shorted an electrical circuit. I had to tie the cord up, and instruct the agent not to turn on or plug in the light. Most frustrating, we wanted the furniture reviewed 2 weeks prior to the end of the contract and did not provide 10 days notice, which resulted in an additional $1,500 payment. And finally on the moving day, they gave me a 2 hour arrival time. That time came and went no calls, and I had to call the office 3 times before I could speak to a person and not deal with voicemails. Still waiting for them to arrive. Bottom line if you want the fancy name you are paying for it, but I did not feel like the services lived up to the reputation. In hindsight I would have gone with a smaller firm (saving $7,000), that would have provided better customer service, and delivered on promised features. read more

I had a very disappointing and beyond frustrating experience with Meridith Baer Home staging. I should have read the plethora of bad reviews prior to hiring this company. The poor reviews are consistent with what I experienced. Prior to hiring Meridith Baer Home, I very clearly expressed expectations through photographs and conversation. If Meridith Baer could not deliver the luxury staging experience Meridith Baer promotes, we should never have engaged in a working relationship. At a minimum, Meridith Baer should have been upfront about lacking inventory (the excuse I was given), and that the glamorous look to which I was aspiring could not be achieved. Instead, Meridith Baer took $14,900.00 upfront, and delivered substandard staging; dirty, stained and damaged furniture and art. Furthermore, a clashing "farmhouse" style was incorporated into one of the main rooms; highly inconsistent with the glamorous style of the home's design. The corrective action the rep took to remove the dirt from the art was to stick her finger in her mouth in an attempt to wipe off the dirt on the art. Not appropriate under any circumstances, but especially egregious in the COVID era. I lost confidence in getting Meridith Baer Home to rectify the situation. In order to achieve a quality look, consistent with the home's quality construction and design, I had to move several of my own art pieces, accessories and furniture into the home. On the day Meridith Baer Home was scheduled to vacate the premises, I drove 2 hours to meet the crew at 8:00 AM, our scheduled time; the crew was over 3 hours late. Meridith Baer continuously lied to me about the crew getting stuck in early morning traffic. The truth, Meridith Baer Home decided to schedule another job prior to my scheduled 8:00 AM time slot. I will never use Meridith Baer service again, and I would discourage anyone else from using them. Their website looks terrific, classy and professional, but the job that they did for me was amateurish and junky looking. When I phoned them to complain, the representative, Mattie Kors, blamed my HOA and an alleged lack if preparedness for their poor job. They had done a previous walk through, and they selected the furnishings in advance which had nothing to do with the HOA, nor with my preparedness. It's ironic that she blamed my HOA which phoned and texted me repeatedly during the installation because Meridith Baer workers repeatedly propped open the security gate in violation of the HOA rules despite my providing them with a pass fob to open the gate. I mention this only because Mattie Kors took no responsibility at all for the poor quality of their service. Indeed, she added a degree of unprofessionalism instead. Add that to the job of the designer, Jane, who seems to have randomly chosen items from their warehouse. Jane was overheard complaining, "I only get $70 per hour for this job." Jane did acknowledge leaving an important area bare saying, "There was nothing in the warehouse." Jane was supposedly the designer who planned the installation so badly. She completely ignored the award winning architecture of my condo and left it looking like a cheap motel. Adding insult to injury, Mattie Kors, the company representative ignored our emails for two days, likewise our phone calls before responding and shifting the blame for the amateurish performance of her staff. Her empty excuses sounded like a rehearsal for an explanation to her boss. read more

Merideth Baer Home Staging, in particular Lisa Vail and Mary Langley Treisman, did an excellent job staging our spectacular listing: an approx.13,000 sq ft Mediterranean Villa designed by Reginald Johnson. Mary was always cheerful, readily available, and kept her word about completing the job, even when it turned out to be bigger than anticipated. Lisa has a brilliant design sensibility, she was able to come through the house and immediately envision how each room needed to be furnished and accessorized. She brought in truckloads laden with furniture that was all the appropriate scale, design, and colors to complement the house. In fact, everything works so seamlessly that people don't realized the home is staged- they are able to focus their attention on the structure of the house rather than what is in it. Mary and Lisa listened to the needs and desires of the owners and honored all of my requests. Our recent (May-June 2021) experience with MBH was mixed. On the plus side, the overall design and feel of the staging was very good. It made the rooms look larger and stylish, and it blended well with the 1930s architecture of our home. But the overall level of service -- particularly for the extremely high price -- was unsatisfactory. First, some of the furniture they installed was noticeably dirty -- we had to go through and clean much of it. For the price, we would have expected that they could at least bring clean furniture. Second, they are inflexible and difficult when it comes to scheduling; their attitude seems to be that they are doing the customer a favor. And third, their de-installation was sloppy and unprofessional. After installing various artwork and mirrors, they refused to remove the bolts, screws, and nails that they left behind. The contract specifies that they will not patch the holes, but it does not say that they will not even bother to remove the hardware, which included large bolts that were difficult to extract, and it was clear that they did not use any care in hanging things to minimize damage to the walls. When I called to complain, the customer service person offered a variety of ridiculous excuses. First she said that no one had ever complained about this. Then she said that the reason they do not remove the hardware is that they are not trained to do so. And then she said that the contract makes clear that they do not remove any hardware -- which is simply false. After paying them $10,000, we expected a far better response. All told, MBH seems to be a classic example of a company that, as it has grown and expanded, has lost any sense of customer service. It left a bad taste in our mouth. read more

Brianna and the team at Meridith Baer Home did a fantastic job designing and staging our home for sale in East Pompano. While I was skeptical at first, my wife believed in them from the start. And, I was happy to be wrong once again. The day of staging our 6,000 sqft 2-story home went without a hitch. The move in was orderly and they took great care to protect our floors, walls, etc. They completely transformed some rooms and just accented others. We were delighted with the end result. Even the buyers' inspectors remarked on the nice feel the home had, and that they typically do not comment on such things. The house looked amazing for the photographers and quickly attracted interested buyers. The first 2 buyers who saw it made offers and the house was sold after being listed for only a few days. I have no doubt their staging made the difference in selling our home. Move out was just as smooth as move-in. I will certainly use their service again in the future. read more
