Merle Mullins, in my opinion, is a godsend. He is exactly what I was looking for in a counselor. Some therapists are very clinical and seemingly above the problems that many of us face on a daily basis. Almost to the point of being judgmental. That is not Merle. On one hand he is an excellent listener. But he also knows when to interject with his own personal experiences and that is what I found most helpful. He showed me that I am not alone. We all face certain common struggles in life and hearing that is so empowering. It's great to hear that someone else has had similar problems and came out on the other side a better person. I found Merle to be both enlightening and supportive. read more

Pros: evening and weekend hours Cons: My husband and I have been separated for over a year and have decided to try to make things work. At our first session, Merle talked about himself a LOT. He never really asked us about ourselves, our relationship, or our problems... but we were there for 2 hours. For 2 hours, he talked about HIMSELF. It was actually really strange and confusing. Afterwards, my husband and I joked to each other that maybe he was actually a patient that snuck into the office and pretended to be "Merle the counselor." It was as if he had no idea how to open a dialogue with us about our relationship. It was really quite off-putting. My husband and I put a lot of thought into our decision to try to make things work, but we agreed we needed some professional support. We were so disappointed. Almost didn't schedule here due to a single review. Glad I ignored it. Session started early and Merle got right on point. Lots of understanding and realistic suggestions. Provided me with materials for self-study. He didn't try to hook me into multiple expensive sessions and was honest and open. I will be back. read more

Alright, so, my girlfriend and I went to see him because his profile on Psychology Today sounded promising. And then the session started. For the two hours or so that we were there, we heard a great deal about his church, his family life, his thoughts, his religious views, and how he and his wife have (had?) and Avalon and a Jaguar. No questions about our recent experiences were asked, we were not given a chance to find any solution, even in the short term, to the issues we are facing. But I did get a very detailed lecture on why I should accept his views and religious beliefs. I'm not an expert on therapists' guideline, but I DO know that therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselors are not allowed to give the prescriptive ideals on how to handle the clients' issues. Mr. Mullins might have 30 some years' experience in his field, but I do not recommend scheduling an appointment with him if you are not: over 30 years old; Judeo-Christian; have not seen any sort of counselor before. His rates may be affordable, but as is a standard rule of thumb, one will get what one has paid. read more
