I have used Merrie 4-5 times to down-size our collection of "stuff" in our home and it has always been very successful. I am very sentimental and Merrie has always been kind, helpful, non judgmental and professional, taking time to help me make the best decisions. Merrie comes in person, sometimes bringing one helper to carry on what we have perviously discussed including the dispersal of stuff. Update since my wife and I have worked with Merrie again a few times: we have still been impressed with her work, whether moving , or sorting a room full of memorabilia, or cleaning. She even helped us with my Mother-in-law's place. She guided Mom through the process of sorting through a lifetime of belongings, in a palatable do-able way, and guided the rest of our team on how to pack and move everything, labeling to make it the easier. Her quality of work was the same at our home, working with my wife to move us- every box ended up in the right place, and unpacking was a breeze. She has a fun demeanor and is encouraging along the way. Her cleaning team also does a top-notch job! Highly recommend this great local team. read more

Merrie is wonderful. Not only is she flexible and efficient, but she is attuned to her client's specific needs. She has been invaluable in my trying to empty a household of two generations and figure out what to take to a new and much smaller residence. Not only that, but she takes all of the donate bins and the trash bins and efficiently moves the keep items to the new house. God bless her. In response to the review that stated that her team asked if they could have some of the donate and discard items, I specifically asked if they wanted anything and they always said no. I have known Merrie for 20 years and have called upon her expertise many times . She has helped me clean out reorganize and repurpose several rooms in my home. Some tasks felt overwhelming to me and Merrie helped me prioritize and make decisions to get the jobs done. She is efficient, motivated and fun to work with. I had Merrie help me with two clean-outs. She was very patient with me and didn't tell me I was wrong for having saved anything I had. I had kind, patient people in my life all the time that said they would help me clean out and organize, but working with her was much more productive than having any of those friends work with me. They had "just get rid of it!" in mind, but Merrie helped me make my own decisions on whether I should do that. Another reviewer claims they were often asked if Merrie could take some of the items for herself. I didn't have this happen to me at all. Both experiences were a pleasure and well worth the time and money. I couldn't have done it without her! My house is now in the best shape it has ever been, in spite of my having accumulated years of garage sale finds and adding them to possessions of my late parents. I still love my "stuff" but am now able to make better decisions. read more

Merrie and co. were hired to clean out a family member's home as she moved to a new residence. We were happy to have her agree to take on the project on such short notice, just a few days before we needed her. However, the team was, from our point of view, unprofessional in several respects. They asked incessantly if they could take for themselves objects which my family had designated to donate. This created a serious conflict of interest in which they stood to benefit directly from objects which should have been donated to people in need or sold at auction to regain some of the value my family had paid. This is not the image of a professional organizer we had envisioned. We were already compensating them with an hourly wage and I would feel much better about the entire experience had the organizing team not crossed this clear ethical line of asking to take objects home for themselves. Just imagine if on TLC an organizer helping a client decide which of their possessions they should keep for the next stage of their lives followed up the question "Do you really need that?" with the aside "No? then do you mind if I take it home?". Inconceivable. In a world with only 3 categories of "Keep," "Donate," and "Throw Out" there is NO room for "Goes home with the organizer." Moving is a stressful experience, especially from a home piled with many more possessions than one wishes to keep. Professionals hired during this emotional time should remain just that, professional. This means letting some objects they would snatch up from a donation pile if they were cleaning, say, one of their own family's houses pro bono, instead pass them by in the interest of ethical, professional behavior. Not to mention that these objects were not cast off to be thrown out, but to be donated to a well reputed charity. If you are indifferent to this kind of behavior, I will say we were left with the impression that Merrie was very nonjudgmental and productive, as many of the testimonials on her own site would indicate. As an experienced organizer, surely this group recognizes the psychological burden that the process puts on their clients (after all, if it were easy there wouldn't be much of a market for their services). As such, they should also recognize that clients deserve to have a professional ally in the process who does not stand to gain personally from the endeavor apart from the agreed upon hourly wage. read more
