I almost always go here every time I'm in Laguna Beach and I usually buy at least one thing from this store. For the location, the pricing of the merchandise isn't bad at all. They also occasionally have sales; I actually just bought a jacket there for less than $37! The quality isn't bad either; I've gotten tons of compliments from it, too. I've also purchased a straw/raffia bag from here as well and I've gotten compliments from it as well. Service is always friendly every time I've stopped here; FYI, I'm a woman of color, but I don't want to discount anyone else who've had not so pleasant experiences here. read more

Absolute joke of an establishment. I bought an egregiously overpriced bathing suit for my wife for which she did not like. Came back an hour later to try and return it for which the girl that works at the counter laughed in my face and said we don't do returns here. Tags were still on the bathing suit and it was still in the bag with the receipt. My wife didn't even even put it on. Terrible customer service from a boutique style shop that's local here to Laguna. In a time when small businesses are struggling to stay afloat up against big corporations, you would think that their customer service would be better in order to preserve their businesses. I guess the ego of the girl working at the counter was more important than customer service. If I could leave zero stars, I would. read more

The clothes were cute, but I can't support this kind of discrimination. Moved back to Laguna a few months ago and was really excited to be in walking distance of this store. First of all I'd like to say that the girls working are so extremely welcoming and sweet. Every time someone would walk out of the dressing room they were like hype girls saying how adorable the clothes looked on them. Which in my opinion is seriously awesome customer service. My room mate and I go in there at least once a month for more clothes we probably don't need but LOVE, we seriously love the environment and positive vibes. Also the clothes are very cute and not overpriced. This store can take all my $$$. The owner seriously did such an amazing job picking the staff. Very cute boutique with a huge selection of swimwear and cover-ups. Cute summer dresses, so I will be back when I have more time to check those out. I think pricing is about normal for a bathing suit and given the proximity to the beach. They also had nice candles and wind chimes. My daughter bought a cover-up from them. I live out of town and am here for business. I also rarely post on Yelp. Tonight, 7/10, I walked over to grab some sushi after a long day and window shopped at all the closed stores all the way there. On the way back, at ~9:05 PM, I saw the door to your store still open and popped my head in. I asked the two gals working if the store was closed (the sign clearly says closed at 9 pm), but they both responded enthusiastically that they were still wrapping up a couple things and I could have a quick browse if I like. With that kind welcome, I proceeded to tell them about a work event I have coming up and that I had nothing to wear/no idea what to wear. They both ran around the store with me, picking out a few options, patiently waited for me to try the clothes on, and ultimately found my outfit for next week. I impulsively spent over $100 (not my personal best move), BUT these two ladies were so so helpful and sweet. I imagine the majority of people in their shoes would have responded "sorry, we're closed" and that would have been that. Always blown away when customer service goes above and beyond. This place is really cute and has super cute outfits that are unique. Pricing is a bit high but the quality seems good so I can let that slide. The girl that was helping me made me feel like I was going to steal or something or like if I wasn't going to spend a lot she didn't really want to help me. I ended up spending over $250 here but I hate feeling like that when I'm shopping like I'm not good enough to be shopping at your store. read more

This place is incredible.... the swimsuits, clothing, and staff. As one can imagine, on a fun scale of 1-10, going swimsuit shopping for me is a ZERO. But, the call to the beach was stronger than a bad attitude about swimsuit shopping, so off I go. As soon as we arrived to Merrilees, we were greeted by Amanda, who in spite of many customers in the shop, treated me and everyone else like we were the only customer and catered to our every request! She explained how all the swimsuits are made right here in the store, the quality of the fabric(imported from Italy!) and how tops and bottoms are made--to flatter all shapes and sizes. This is very true! The bottoms fit soft and snug w/o digging in and making bulges/muffin top. The tops support and flatter the chest creating nice cleavage w/o revealing back fat. Win/win! Amanda is an amazing asset to this store and made the whole swimsuit shopping experience pleasurable! The quality of the suits are hands down far superior to anything else I've seen out there! Thank you so much for the beautiful swimsuits and an enjoyable experience. I encourage all ladies to go here for your swimsuits and super cute clothes, especially if you hate trying on swimsuits! I love this place. The clothes are mixed, some I love while some I am not fond of I think this is good though, as it offers something for everyone! The prices are reasonable and the bathing suits really are good quality. They have a few sales per year and you can really score. I just got a cute pleather skirt, 2 bras, a nice zip up hoodie, a necklace, and 2 dresses for $1500 Everything is good quality, nothing feels cheap. I do like Merilee's. My parents bought me a gift card for Christmas which sadly got lost in the shuffle and possibly thrown away. I was heartbroken over it. I tried calling the Huntington store where it was purchased and they blew me off telling me there was nothing they could do even though they have records of it in their system. They mentioned to me the owner was located at this location. Desperate for a resolution, my mom happened to be shopping in Laguna that day so she decided she would stop in to speak to her, because surely there must be something that can be done. The sales person was kind and found the receipt again in their system, my mom showed her the bank record of the transaction, and explained the whole awful situation. She was told she would get a call back from the owner to discuss. Well the owner did not call, and also had refused to speak with me during my interaction with the Huntington store. Stating, "Customer service is not my job". They refused to reissue another gift card, basically kept our $50 giving us nothing in return but a super sour taste and bitter feeling that will prevent us from ever spending money at this place ever again. To top it all off as a final slap in the face they called my mom a few days later to offer "30% off 1 item" as a consulation for stealing our $50. read more

This is an adorable store with plenty of selection - swimwear and beyond! It's hard to not want to scoop up everything and bring it to the register - the variety is great and the prices are reasonable. The staff is cheerful and helpful and trying things on is a breeze. I liked the vintage swim selection and the beach totes with a nautical theme. Also love the dresses, skirts, and bandeau tops to wear under loose, flowy tanks. Pretty much everything in here is amazing and you can find the perfect outfit for a beach town :) Lots of unique but on-trend items here. I'll be back next time I'm in town. read more

Very disappointed with return policy. I purchased a small item for a holiday trip on 2/28 and told the sales clerk I was going on vacation. Upon my return, on the first Saturday available (since I work Mon-Fri) I was told that it's a 7-day return policy. Very abrupt sales clerk who said she was a manager. Basically just I was out of luck and too bad. I've lived in Laguna Beach for 30 years and always try to purchase through local vendors, especially in the winter months. This type of attitude just changes my mind.. I'm better off to go to the malls. Too bad, I'll never shop there again. My sister and I were shopping for our trip to Kauai coming up and stopped in Merrilee's for some bathing suits and sun dresses. I have to say I was so impressed by the customer service, selection and how well the store was set up! They had so many options for us despite my sister being pregnant and myself being very short. They catered to all shapes and sizes and I felt super confident in the selection! Amanda instantly came up to us and introduced herself and gave us the layout of the store. She was so helpful and super attentive the whole time. I felt like this was a full experience and I've been spreading the word to my clients, friends and family! I've always liked Merrilee's but do not have a chance to come in very often. They have some really unique swimsuits and fun clothes. Was in Laguna yesterday and stopped in. The sales associate was very personable and helpful. Lots of colors combos and I tried on some tops but it was the jewelry that really drew my attention. They had some really nice inexpensive pieces and the quality was great. Looking for some turquoise to add a pop of color to your wardrobe? This is your place. Sometimes parking can be a challenge but when in Laguna this is a place you must visit. It is on a corner going North on PCH ( on right) by the Cottage Furnishings store. LOVVVVVE their bathing suits! They are different compared to everything else out there! They are unique, sexy and VERY good quality. I always wanted to go in because every time I would drive PCH I would see they had the cutest bathing suits on display on their window. Bathing suits are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for :) This location is much bigger than the Huntington location. Employees are sweet and attentive. My sister snagged a few dresses and clothing items here from the sales rack corner for such a good price! even the sales items were good quality! I love this store. There are SO many boutiques in Laguna to choose from, but this one is my favorite. The selection is very nice. Every time I go in, I want to buy just about everything, the sun dress selection alone is out of this world. And the prices are not ridiculous. I really don't go in for bathing suits, I like the clothes, tops-dresses etc... My daughter bought some cute sunglasses there, and they sell Miss. Marissa perfume which is my FAVE !! Had a great experience in the store. Bought my wife a couple suits. Spent $300. Got on our vacation a week later with the tags still on and after removing the tags, walking down to the pool and wearing it for an hour she felt The top didn't feel right. Turns out the employee who helped her accidentally place one of the 4 pieces on hold in the wrong size. No problem right? Well I called and was told even though they made the mistake, they could not replace it. Insulted me with an offer to BUY another one at 15% off. I am very sad they treated us this way after such a large investment. I feel they do not see the larger picture such as this review and the inability for us to recommend them anymore, let alone us buying anything there again. I would love to hear from an owner as the manager was a joke to deal with. read more

The obviously do not care about costumer service or return of costumers bc this shop is purely a tourist trap. I like the variety of clothes here and always find at least a couple things I like. Very cute Bohemian style clothing but I'm still seeing a lot of "Mrs. Roper" and grandma styles as fillers between the cute stuff. But, there's always something for everyone in here. Bathing suits are ok. But I rarely actually buy them here except when they're on sale. They also run very, very small and I'm a size 0. Bathing suit collection always seem to consist of mostly solid colors with a few patterns and simple styles, and expect to pay at least $150 for a two piece suit. In my opinion that's way too much for a very simple bikini. Especially when u can get the same styles from Hurley, Volcom, and Roxy for half the price. Besides that I make it a habit to check in at least a few times a year to see what's hit the sale rack or reasonably priced. read more

Great clothes, but run by pretentious and awkward teenagers who don't make eye contact and are surface nice while acting like they are better than you. They try to be helpful and ask questions but give and "I didn't really want to know" look when you answer.
