Poor customer service. My mom wanted to get a ring for Christmas and we simply needed to know her ring size. The store REFUSED to do a measurement since we were not purchasing the ring there! That being said, we went to ZALES of all places just to get a ring sizing! Well guess what Mesa Jewelers, now we won't be doing ANY business with you in the future. I took two watches to Mesa jewelers; one was a simple new wristband. They were amazingly fast in the replacement. The other watch ( a valuable older watch) needed a cleaning and new battery. Nice store, knowledgeable people EXCEPT when it comes to the prices of precious metals. I got $125 for 11.8 grams of 14k gold chain. As of this review 14k gold goes at $33.05 per gram. Meaning the scrap value is $389.99 . * I called before I went, younger lady picks up, I asked: "do you guys pay the spot value of gold jewelry" She replies: "no we pay the scrap value." Sounded fair to me so I showed up. . * I was then greeted by the younger guy, he begins testing the necklace and offers me $125. I asked "is that negotiable? It's worth $300+ in scrap metal" ...he said "really? For 24k carat I could imagine it being worth that." As if this mid 30's guy is in stuck in the 1950's I'm not sure but after I heard that I was mind blown. Past shops I've sold gold to simply look up the price of 14k/18k ect. and pay that. I had two watch batteries changed today & they charged me 50 dollars which is ridiculously high but i needed to get it done & didn't have time to go elsewhere. When they ran my credit card they ran it twice. When I questioned it they said they needed to enter it into their system as well. Being in law enforcement for 30 years & being familiar with credit card issues I questioned it. They became argumentative & had a very poor attitude towards my wife & I. Ive made 3 purchases from this jeweler before. Always poor customer service & lousy attitudes. I wont waste my time & money here again. I try to shop local but why hassle with the lousy service. I have been using Mesa Jewelers exclusively for nearly 20 years. I took my wife's ring in to have a new head installed because the current one was close to losing the diamond (diamond was not purchased at Mesa). I received the ring back and 1 month later the diamond had fallen out. I called Mesa Jewelers and told them what happened and they said to bring it by. I took the ring in and ultimately was given a replacement diamond of better quality and slightly larger without even asking for anything and expecting to buy a new diamond as I had no insurance and the diamond was not even purchased through them just the ring and head. Amazing customer service and just reaffirmed why we have chosen Mesa Jewelers for all of or jewelry needs for the last 20 years. While the store's merchandise appears to be excellent quality the same cannot be said of its customer service. While the staff is most happy to take as much money as you have and further as far as your credit extends don't expect much else. I have been in three times. Twice they were rude and condescending towards me while shopping and inquiring about service. The staff shifts store policies around if they believe they can extract a large sale from you or not. It seems as if they feel that you are not going to be dropping thousands of dollars frivolously then they look forward to you leaving. The only time I have experienced good customer service was when I brought in high value heirloom to be appraised. WOW! They were happy to help me with that. The other times I went they were not interested in my business and even said as much. Three chances is enough for this business. I really do appreciate the appraisal work they did. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!!!! There is not enough space on this website to explain in detail the MULTIPLE HORRIBLE experiences we have had with Mesa Jewelers. But just so I can attempt to warn you what your future might hold IF you decide to purchase from this store, I'll go ahead and give you the nutshell versions. 1) We wanted a custom ring made for our first anniversary so we left my wedding ring (which was purchased at Mesa Jewelers) at the store to make sure the custom ring would 'match' the sizing of the custom ring. But when my wedding ring was returned to us, 3 diamonds were missing (without ANYONE telling us they would be removing diamonds or tampering with my wedding ring in the first place). After the jeweler put the diamonds back in the setting, the prongs were sharp and scratchy and we were told they would not be able to fix them. We were quite irritated so we decided NOT to have them create the custom ring. 2) A diamond fell out of my wedding ring and upon receiving the ring back after repairs, several diamonds were obviously discolored and flawed (pictures included). We thought the diamonds might have been replaced with fakes or that they had been cracked while being repaired. John (the owner) never offered us an explanation, and since he was not able to fix the issue by cleaning the wedding ring, he said our only option was to trade in the wedding ring for something worth twice the original value [insert eye roll]. We should have NEVER made a second purchase from Mesa Jewelers, but since the wedding ring we had was in an unacceptable condition, we decided to trade it in for a different wedding ring that I would be proud to wear. 3) During our first purchase AND during multiple other store visits, we were told that the wedding ring would be covered by Mesa Jewelers in the event of loss or theft. But to our dismay, when I did lose my second wedding ring only 5 months after purchasing it, we were informed they did NOT cover loss or theft of any jewelry. This was NEWS to us. Reluctantly, and because I was trying to take responsibility for loosing the set my husband had just purchased me 5 months prior, I purchased a third wedding ring through Mesa Jewelers. ***Make sure to have your fine jewelry appraised and added to your home-owners insurance since jewelry stores do NOT cover their pieces in the event of loss or theft. Lesson learned.*** 4) The third wedding ring was sent to Mesa Jewelers for a regular inspection and within 72 hours of receiving the set back a diamond fell out. We called and spoke with John (the owner) and he claimed that it was common for diamonds to wiggle lose in the Ultra-Sonic cleaner. Okay - but why wasn't the set inspected before sending it back to us? We again, VERY reluctantly, sent the set back to have the missing diamond repaired since it was covered under warranty. To our disbelief, the wedding set came back AGAIN with darkened and discolored diamonds (pictures attached). We wrote John (the owner) a very detailed letter documenting all of these events, and more, and requested a refund for the appraised amount of the third wedding ring (about half of what we had spent in total of the three separate purchases). He never responded to our letter (as we requested) and when we FINALLY reached him on the phone after several days, he hung up on us within 30 seconds. We are SHOCKED that John (the owner) has yet to apologize for any of these issues, provide any kind of explanation other than sloppy excuses, and that he claimed we were trying to "threaten" him with our letter - after we have spent over $6k in his store on THREE wedding rings, but one have ONE DAMAGED wedding ring to show for it. That is far from a threat - that is is a fact. The amount of time, stress and tears we have spent over the last four years dealing with Mesa Jewelers is truly unbelievable. ***If you read this review and only plan on purchasing ONE wedding ring in your lifetime, DO. A month ago my son bought an engagement ring at Mesa Jewelers. Very tragically his relationship ended and he did not propose. He went into the store yesterday to return the ring (which was never even removed from the box). He was treated poorly. He was alerted to the return policy indicated on his receipt (7 days). I understand business practices and the reasons for return policies. This; however, feels unreasonable. I don't know anyone who has bought an engagement ring and proposed within the week. The salesman that helped me was not friendly and when he looked at my ring he asked where it was purchased. I told him Macy's and he smirked at us. I felt like I had committed a crime. There was one person (I assume the owner) not wearing a mask the whole 20 minutes or so I was in there. I went in to have a watch battery replaced, when they told me it was $20 I should have walked out the door (Wal Mart does it for about $5 but they're currently not offering that service). Then they couldn't get the case back to snap on and said the gasket (made of rubber most likely) expanded (when exposed to air??) And they were going to send me out the door with tape holding the watch together (no joke). Finally they said they'll send it out and it will be an extra $10 and 1 1/2 -2 weeks. read more

I purchased an expensive gold chain from Mesa Jewelers in January 2017 and asked if exchanging the existing clasp for another type of clasp was possible. The jeweler said it was, he ordered the new clasp and told me that he, himself, would do the work of exchanging it in the store. I informed the jeweler that the chain would be holding a very precious medallion and I was concerned about the chain breaking for any reason. He assured me the chain would not break and the medallion would be safe. 5 days later, the chain broke at the place where the clasp was replaced by the jeweler and the medallion was lost. I brought the chain back to Mesa where I was told by the same jeweler and (who I believe) is the manager or owner that exchanging the clasp created weakness in the chain and breakage was to be expected. I reminded them that this opinion was not shared with me at the time I purchased the necklace and I would not have exchanged the clasp had I known replacing it would put the medallion at risk. They did not apologize or offer to examine their process of altering jewelry in their store to prevent this from happening to another customer. Sadly, they showed no concern for the lost medallion. My impression was that my request for a refund on the chain was inconvenient and a nuisance to them. Customer service is clearly not their priority. As I do with many purchases, I chose to bring my business to a small, local retailer when I had several of their competitors from which to choose. I am highly disappointed in this company. I had a baby 4 days ago and due to flu season am not able to bring her in public. One would expect a place like this in a shopping mall to be decent, but my experience, like most others on here, was unpleasant. The sales lady, "sold" me an engagement ring which, when appraised by her boss ( the store owner) the next day, was not what she had 'sold' me the day before. The diamond color had dropped a couple of grades from what she had sold us. Good news is they refunded me my $$ promptly, but I left with a bad taste in my mouth. I bought my wedding ring almost 20 years ago at Zales...I went to have it sized up and they quoted me nearly $400 and 3 weeks. I left because I had done business with Mesa Jewelers and was happy so I went to went to get a comparison bid. The cost was half, they said normal turn was 3-5 days but they had a lot of work ahead so a week was estimated. One week later I got my ring back, like new, one quarter size larger and they even retipped it. I am so thrilled with John and Jo and thank them for their service. I took my grandmother's original ring in to see what it would cost to have it sized up 1 size and refurbished. When I went in, the young guy that helped me did NOT diamond test it.... They are real diamonds! He looked at under the microscope and said, " these are not diamonds, and I have no idea what kind of metal it is". I told him it was 18k gold, and I've had them diamond tested. He told me I was wrong and they could make me a new ring if I wanted one that looked like it.
