Great spot for breakfast! I had the steak and eggs, and it was excellent. The eggs were perfectly cooked, and the 6 oz steak had a really nice, rich aroma. The hash browns clearly tasted fresh--like they were cut that morning, not frozen or from a supplier bag. Everything had amazing flavor and gave me energy for the whole day. We were greeted with a "Come on in and grab a seat," which we did picking up menus on the way. The menu offers a variety, including the obvious steaks and burgers, but also Mexican favorites, salads and even breakfast choices. Our ribeye was amazing, marinated in spices and cooked to perfection. We chose the two included sides and ours were a loaded baked potato and string beans. Because we shared the 12 Oz steak, we added a side and chose grilled zucchini. All were grilled in real butter, except of course, the potato. And even though our amazing, cheerful server, Joey, assured us real butter in the grilling, the loaded potato's condiments were real sour cream, real bacon bits, chives and for some mysterious reason little butter/looking tubs of dreaded "vegetable" oil. When we mentioned this to Joey, she shared our surprise and immediately offered to replace the whole side, which we declined, simply scraping off the fluffy yellow, heart-damaging, pretend oil. Joey even checked with the chef before we had to ask about dessert options and was happy to report safe choices were all butter coconut cake and vanilla ice cream. We're not trying to be difficult, just healthy. And with servers like Joey, there's hope that people are becoming aware. In any case, with the exceptions mentioned, a good steakhouse like Mesquite Canyon is always a good bet for the health conscious. The restaurant isn't fancy, has a sunny back area for dining away from the darker bar area, and even offers some tasty local beer. read more

The food took FOREVER to come, like they had to catch the cow and slaughter it before cooking. Our server never came to check on us until the restaurant was nearly empty. Absolutely love the place great food large portions and very reasonable prices. I have never seen the wait staff hassle like they did here. In addition they remained attentive and courteous to us as well. If I ever end up stopping again in Shamrock I will definitely eat with them again and you should too! read more

From the start this establishment served up one of my pet peeves...no sign to let you know to seat yourself or wait to be seated. I guessed and seated myself. After about 12 minutes the one and only server they have took my drink order and after 5 minutes returned with it. I thought she would take my order at this time but I was wrong. After 5 more minutes she reappeared and got my order. I ordered a small chicken fried steak and pinto beans. After an additional 12 minutes she returned to my table with the CFS and mash potatoes. When she got close enough to my table that I could get her attention without yelling I let her know about the missing beans. A few minutes later they were delivered. I have eaten CFS at many establishments but I have never seen one as thin as this one. I didn't give up on it till my first bite. If you like the taste of anything fried in grease that should have been change long ago you have found paradise. The beans were canned and the cook made no attempt to dress them up at all. I got up to pay leaving the table of 6. there was no way I was leaving any tip. but my daughter tossed out a 20 . the waitress was great. maybe need to promote her to head cook. or ditch the George Forman single burger cooker back there. we ate all the crackers waiting for the food. The waitress was great. The food needs a LOT of improvement. The hot sauce was rancid. The waitress tasted it also and threw it out. Enchiladas were some conglomeration rolled into a tortilla, not impressed. Maybe it was a the rancid, rotted and old hot sauce that ruined my opinion or it could have been all the food. Not much meal offerings in Shamrock but I'd suggest Hasty Burger anytime you stop in that town. read more

It has become a good overall place to eat. Nothing fancy just good. We like to go there for breakfast. We like the Hamburgers and fries. The catfish dinner is very good, just add more hushpuppies. This Steakhouse in Shamrock, TX was a surprise. Hubs had a crispy chicken fried steak that was tender and had that beefy Texas meat flavor. The home made white gravy topped off the CFS perfectly. My small sirloin was prepared exactly as ordered and was tender, juicy and flavorful. Texas beef on both entrees were delicious. Our server was attentive and West Texas friendly. First day of restaurants opening yayy!!! We stopped here on our way to do some hiking at Palo Duro. It was highly rated and the other option we considered was closed. The place is super cute and our waitress was friendly. It was clean with clean restrooms. We sat in the room with the view and ordered two burgers and the Texas toothpicks. The toothpicks were both jalapeños and onions and overly fried. Neither tasted like anything but fried breading:((. I got the jalapeño burger and it was ok. Definitely NOT my Nics or Tucker's. Just no taste really. The tater tots were obviously froze. From a bag. The BF liked his green Chile burger and his fries were yummy! read more

An oasis in the Texas panhandle. We were traveling through on vacation and did not want fast food. This is not your white linen fancy place with an extensive wine list. It's just a local place that does its' best to serve good food. My wife had the steak and loved it. I had the shrimp and it was good. Reading other reviews, I wish I tried the chicken fried steak. Place was clean. Staff and other customers were friendly. Just a nice place to stop for eats. read more

We are strangers in town. This was the only place open and we wanted steak. We ordered two rib eyes. Steak and baked potato were OK, not great. Usually with steak you are offered A-1 sauce, we were not. Usually you are offered butter, we were not. I got up, went to kitchen and asked for butter and A-1. We were not offered a refill on our water glasses. When I went to pay the bill, I explained to the server, who was also the cashier that I was only going to give her a five dollar tip, because of the bad service. I said that I would ordinarily give of $15-20 for a meal that size. She told me that she did not care what I tipped her, and I could tip her nothing for all she cared. She got nothing. read more

I don't mind that some people don't care to take precautions but I'd like to at least be respected when I do. Traveling along interstate 40. Found this place on yelp. Had four stars. As we entered the restaurant the patriots had to let us know we could see it ourselves because no one was able to greet us. I ordered the fajita plate. Absolutely the worst fajitas I've ever had in my life. After waiting 40 minutes for our food. The bottom of the meat was a good eighth of an inch chard and burnt. The top of the meat was raw. All of the sides were cold. Never offered a refill on our drinks. And what appeared to be the hostess was absolutely rude! Stopped by when driving through on the I-40 on my way to AZ. It smelled amazing when we pulled up and got out of the car but it had absolutely no smell on the inside. What happened to the wonderful smell of cooking steak? I was very confused but we sat down and tucked into some grub. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Was traveling & looking for a decent meal. Saw the earlier ratings & left the highway. Not many folks there at 6'ish & wondered if we messed up . The crowd arrived while we were eating. Tried the canyon special of chicken fried steak. Hand breaded sirloin vs the frozen varieties frequently served. Milk gravy could have been a bit pepperyier. Catfish was not overcooked. My family lives in town and every time I come to visit we end up at this place. For some reason they like it. Most of the time the food is just so so. This last time it was down right disgusting. I figured I would make it easy and just get the chicken fingers and steak fries. First the menu said you get 4 chicken fingers and I only got 2. Then the chick was over cooked and rubbery. Not only was the chicken fingers over cooked, but the steak fries were burnt. They were also not seasoned at all. Good thing I only come to town every couple years so I do not have to be subjected to this torture that often. Burger was a bit disappointing as it was supposed to come with pepper Jack cheese but had American cheese. I would have preferred the green chilies had a little kick. On a heat scale of 1-10 A rating of 1 would be pushing it. The bottom bun was soggy. Why places don't toast the bottom bun I don't know. Got the baked potato and beans for sides. Sour cream comes in an individual condiment packet which worked fine- just a heads up. My man loved his country fried steak and fried okra. It's has a comfy local feel, not fast food (took a while for our meals) but overall we left happy and it satisfied my desire for a Texas Steak meal. There was no wait and we were able to get in the back room that offers a western view to watch the sunset. The food arrived quickly and was wonderful. Yeah, they have steak ---if that's all is needed to be classified as a steak house , but I wasn't super impressed. The view was beautiful, sure, but I went for the steak and it was akin to what I can do on my little Weber at home. I found this steakhouse coming back from Weatherford in june 2020. It was appealing to me because you could go in. The wait staff is excellent, I am an old country style cafe type guy. All the items on the menu were like eating at grandma's. You can have all your foo-foo meals and productions with the high prices. It doesn't get any better than this. I travel with my dogs, and they have a great place to let them run and relax. I ate there with my wife today and will continue to darken their door when my trail goes this way.
