Steak was paper thin, unseasoned, cooked incorrectly. Sides were not great, bread was cold. Very pricey considering the steak was thinner than what you'd buy at walmart. read more

Ok so we were just passing through and staying at a nearby hotel. Been in the road since 5am so just wanted to eat and go to bed so it was early and we were the only customer. Drew greeted us and let us have the table of our choice. She was really fun. We ordered drinks, and a steak dinner. The steaks were really good and cooked perfectly to our likings. We were staying at a local hotel for the night and didn't want to go out. I was told this was a great place to eat and we were satisfied with our meal. We ordered over the phone and they delivered it to our hotel. I was able to use cash to pay!!! The food was a good portion for the price. and was well packaged. Faded sign still says Big Vern's, which closed, but a new business is serving steak here again. Decor is simple, with some old Texas history murals. Service is young and inexperienced. We didn't see the name of the restaurant outside. The sign simply said "Steakhouse." It is definitely a hole in the wall establishment. Our waitress was Kellie and she greeted us as soon as we entered, as we were the only ones there. I chose a 10oz ribeye and my wife ordered a 10 or 12 oz fillet. Mine was 70% inedible fat and gristle. I mentioned it to the waitress and they offered to replace it. They brought out a smaller steak that was absolutely perfect. I am completely fine with the arrangement. The sweet iced tea was sweet enough. The fries were crisp. My wife's green beans were skillet cooked with butter and garlic. The service was great but I'm not sure if we'll ever return, just due to the distance between our house and them. read more

I just have to give a shout out to Grifs Steakhouse in Shamrock, Texas. We had around 20 people show up there a little after 4pm Monday. We had a very young looking server. Several of us went to the bar and ordered drinks. When she went and got her phone to see how to make my margaritas I was a little worried, but it was actually one of the best ones I have ever had. Then back at the table we had the same server, I think she was the only one there at the time. She literally was great. She got all of our orders correct and the food was delicious. The fried onions and pickles were super good. If you are ever in that area stop by Grifs and have a great meal. read more

We (couple) ordered 2 steaks. It took 45 minutes before we got it. Explanation: "an urgent order came through". Strange to learn that we are apparently not a "important" customer. When the steaks finally arrived they were both way overcooked. Both the medium and rare were (very) well done. Half of the steak not eaten because it was dry (logical when not rare). As compensation we received a $3 (!) discount.... Advice: choose a restaurant where you are taken seriously. read more

Just finished up a excellent meal, I had the Salmon it was delicious. My coworker had the 14 oz T-bone it looked good said that it tasted just as good. Not anybody else here right now. I travel through town often and have ate at the other steakhouse multiple times. My personal opinion is this place is superior. We didn't think Grif's was open when we got there because there were no cars in sight. It was in the middle of lunch and dinner so we didn't know for sure, but we saw the open sign and walked in and was greeted by a sweet guy named Joel. Ordered some beers and fried pickles for appetizers. These were hand breaded and fried in house and served with ranch dressing. They were so good and the perfect amount to share with the table. I ordered a side salad and loaded baked potato and they were just that. Nothing spectacular but didn't disappoint. Someone in our group ordered the Steak Melt and another ordered the Mango Habanero Chicken Sandwich. The star of the show was the chicken sandwich! It was amazing!!! Had the perfect amount of heat with a delicious glaze and topped with fried onion straws. The hand cut French fries with each meal were an excellent addition and very tasty. This place is definitely a four leaf clover in a field of weeds in Shamrock, Texas! Hopefully they will stay in business long enough for us to come back again and try out their dinner. read more

Awesome all around.Head chef and owner had a great personality and work ethic.Don't know which waitress I had but she had a great work ethic too.Very polite and helpful .The greeters were full of insight and had great recommendations as well I had the honor of trying out the cheeseburger which was perfectly cooked through and through. their fries cooked perfectly as well and had a great color on them also . The amount of seasoning was right on the money not too much not too little the greeters were full of energy and ready and waiting for you before you could open the door ready to seat you .10 stars out 10 stars if not more .The ambiance was welcoming and lively as well too. read more

I wish I could review the food, but we were never served. After arriving with only a few tables occupied, we place our order. One hour and 15 minutes later we left hungry. Other customers came in after we ordered our food and 12 were served before us. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise, I would like to give it a 4.5 but app doesn't allow. It was welcome for the four of us after a long car day on Route 66. It's a big open room with a separate bar so not huge on ambiance but great food and service. Our server, Ella, was a delight, charming and efficient. The food was really good-we started with fried onion strings (which will be upping my Thanksgiving green bean casserole game), a nice size simple salad with good dressings, 3 10 ounce ribeyes (I would have loved the 14 ounce bone-in but too big for me with no leftover options) and a 10 ounce top sirloin-all cooked just as ordered. There was a nice selection of sides-the 3 ribeyes all choose the loaded baked potato which would have been stellar but a bit under so on the hard side. The sirloin guy had the housemade mac and cheese which was outstanding...I know it's panhandle TX but we're all wine drinkers, one white which our white drinker didn't want to risk, and 2 reds, a merlot and a cab (only info given by bar person, lol).
