Lately, though, it just doesn't feel quite the same. The pizza can still be good at times, but it's not as consistently impressive as it once was. With several other spots in the area now offering really strong pizza options, it's harder to say this would be my first choice. I still appreciate the history I have with the place, but I do think there's room to get back to what made it so great years ago.

We were in Bethesda for a movie this past Sunday and we had a short amount of time to grab a bite…read moreto eat (30-ish minutes) before needing to be at the theater. We didn't have time for the places I sometimes like to eat at in the Row (sit down places that would have taken longer than 30 minutes), and we didn't want to eat at any of the chain places nearby either. Just when we were getting into one of those situations where every option gets shot down until you get desperate and end up somewhere you don't even like, we saw Vace's awning. It looked old school and like they might sell pizza by the slice inside, so we wandered in. Since visiting I've done a little research and now I know that Vace Italian Deli started in DC in 1976 and that it's still family-owned almost 50 years later. They offer 60+ items made in house (fresh deli sandwiches, homemade pasta, and freshly baked pizza) and have small store where you can get plenty of great Italian food items (their olive oils looked amazing and did their anchovies and other jarred items)! We got a couple of slices of pizza each (one cheese and one pepperoni for him, one spinach and one onion for me), which were really great. A great walking lunch, and exactly what we had time for. (I say a walking lunch, because Vace is to go only, there's no where to sit.) I really enjoyed our experience here, and I'm glad we wandered until we found it. A fun surprise in Bethesda.

I went to about 6-8 locations along Fenton, Thayer ave, and Georgia Ave. The restaurants I tried were as follows: Ruang Kong tai cuisine (Thai) Roger Miller (West African) Italian kitchen ( pizza/ Italian) Society (American/ Caribbean) Pete's (Pizza) Edible Arrangements (fruit/ chocolate) Abyssinia (Ethiopian) Everyone had small plates or some type of great deal. The most amazing thing I tried came from Ruang Kong Ta Cuisine. They would get the gold star of the day for their mango and sticky rice. It was the last thing I ate and was very refreshing after putting my palate through such a rigorous task! The most out of the box thing I tried was the peanut butter chicken from Roger Miller. There jollof rice was good and curried chicken was flavorful. The worst thing I tried was the turnover from Abyssinia. I've struggled trying to eat Ethiopian food but I didn't enjoy the food I tried. Overall it was a beautiful event with various music artist around different areas in downtown for our listening enjoyment.

Yelp's stage was about as far as possible from the center of the action, which I consider a snub to an event sponsor.

What an amazing lunch!…read more I'll start by saying I have been to Olazzo before, but today's lunch was special. I was introducing my girlfriend and my mom to each other. The host was so friendly and helped get us seated in a booth, and very shortly after seating we were greeted by our server Josh. Josh was very polite, and I felt good vibes before the food ever hit the table. He recommended their special, a trout on pasta dish. The entree had a very generous portion of fish, and our server made sure to drop off everything we needed to accompany our food, extra cheese, water refills, he was attentive and took great care of us. Next time I dine at Olazzo, I'm going to be looking for Josh!

Sunday February 15th 4:00pm…read more I normally don't include personal feelings when reviewing. This is an exception. We were in the area and decided to try this spot. Hostess, gentleman who seated us, and our server were wonderful. The food wasn't the best ever but it was good. We decided to give it a shot despite low customer ratings. We are Black Americans. When we walked in I picked up on a negative vibe but dismissed it. When you walk into a small establishment and it get's quiet or you get the looks turn and no one speaks turn around and leave. There were a few people at the bar chatting up staff (regulars). As we walked by the bar headed to the table I glanced over to the what clearly was the person in charge. I smiled no response. We eat, I head to the ladies restroom. I passed the same gentleman who, again looked directly at me, I smiled and he turned his head. I passed by him on the way back to the table. I specifically looked him the face and smiled. He looked at me and again turned his head blatantly. We are aware of prejudice so I didn't let him get under my skin. I smile and speak to anyone and am happy to do so whether it is reciprocated. It takes negative energy to be mean spirited. Willing to take our money but refuse to acknowledge us as paying customers. We spent quite a bit for two people. I will not recommend this place if it was the last Italian restaurant. To the owners- I could not tell if you were the person I encountered today or a manager. Either way- Just Wow.
