It is a well lit, enclosed shelter with some wooden seats for inclement weather with a few uncovered benches outside. There are rest rooms but no ATM, ticket office, or vending inside. There is a guide to local Antioch businesses posted on the wall. There is no air conditioning in the station during summer and no way that I saw to open windows for fresh air. There is a large commuter lot with adequate parking adjoining the station; parking is $1.50 per day, cash only. North of the station there is a strip mall with, among other businesses, a tavern. There is a small bicycle rack to the west of the station. There are no bicycle shelters available and it is suggested that you bring your own lock/security device when using the racks. There is also a coin operated phone and newspaper vending on the west side of the station. No one works at these stations anymore, you use the app or buy tickets through a machine which is honestly such a bad move. Every time I ride I have to help people who don't know what they're doing because they don't ride regularly or know the system. Yes, metra, you still need humans at the stations! Some conductors are friendly and some don't even bother to check for tickets but it's always better to have a human around regardless. This station is just average. It's better than many stations and much worse than others. They need to address this moving forward, it's ridiculous that some stations have bathrooms, water fountains, and vending machines while some stations don't even have a bench! I was recently caught up in some track construction that made me late for an event. They had no notice online about it so I complained via email. The response I got was that "our records show it was represented on the website" which is a flat out lie. I was on the train looking at the website, looking for a reason we were so delayed, so I'm positive it wasn't mentioned. There's no accountability anymore so don't hold your breath for so much as a "sorry", instead they'll just tell you it's your own fault. Overall I don't really recommend metra if you have a deadline. They're almost always late by a few minutes and sometimes its an hour or more. I get that it's an imperfect system, but they could do so much better.

For those of you that have ridden other forms of public transportation, think of the CTA in Chicago. No time schedules. They get there when they get there. Metra however, does publish a schedule and they get backlash for it when things out of their control cause them to be late. This would easily be remadied by just not publishing a schedule any longer. That way, when there is a ton of snow on the ground or a heavy rainstorm, it just gets there when it gets there. Don't forget when someone decides to play chicken with the train and loses. Everyone just thinks that their schedule is more important than safety. If all you complainers move back into the city where you came from, the problems would go away. Take all your city rules back there with you too. The suburbs could then go back to being the nice places to live like they were before you brought all your city problems and rules with you.

As part of the effort to get my friend up to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission I had to contact taxi services and find one which could bring my friend from Gurnee up to Milwaukee while meeting my expectations. It was challenging. After a few uncommon conversations with some local taxi services I was getting a little concern. I then found Northern American Taxi. I called Marianna and described my unique situation. She liked the idea of helping a homeless person and we proceeded to arrange the ride for my friend. When my friend arrived at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, he called telling me he had a great ride and good time chatting with Marianna.
