There's no chairs around. The station was empty when I went, except for a lone attendant in the booth. She helped us out of the exit door when we showed up. The station looks old, needs a fresh coat of paint and maybe some public art, and some better lighting. It was not a good experience. Total mistake coming to this station. Even getting out the door was difficult, and there's no ramps leading up to this station. What a pain in the leg.

In the past I have driven passed this stop, but never utilized it until this moment. Viewing the station from Chicago Ave, you would think that it was classy considering the buildings exterior and surrounding area that actually appears safe, however, things appear differently once you enter the station itself from Chicago Ave or exit it from the 'L' train, and walk the stairwell. Don't get me wrong, considering that the station has been around since 1908, it is maintained as far as being cleaned and trash taken out, but its interior consists of chipped paint, rust and ever growing plants. It is also one of those stops with a wooden platform. I do imagine that this stop will be renovated in the future. If so, the nearest alternative stops are Dempster and South Blvd. Being that I could possibly visit this stop again, I bookmarked a few businesses within the sector that caught my eye. Some of those businesses are Sher Main Grill, Firehouse Grill, The Lucky Platter, The Brothers K Coffeehouse, and Dollop Coffee & Hoosier Mama Pie Company which most except for Firehouse Grill are 4-star rated. And lastly, other than what I have mentioned, my commute to-and-from this train stop was very pleasant and it appears easily accessible to buses, taxi cabs, uber, lyft and Main Metra Rail Station which actually sits next door. So the smell of cleaner was a pleasant/unpleasant change from the usual stink. Jarvis is one of the lesser stations; what do you expect? You show up, pay through the turnstile, wait for the train, and board when it arrives. Not much else to it. Howard station is so close that you can see when your train is departing. However, bonus points for the Onion paperbox outside, and the Chase ATM inside. Slight detraction for the ATM working only 60% of the time. Charmers Cafe across the street for your caffeinated beverage of choice in the morning; Poitin Stil next to it for your final drink of a boozy night out. And wherever you're going after leaving the station, it's a much nicer walk from Jarvis than from Howard.

The bride and groom hadn't made provisions for a shuttle and the reception was a solid 20 minutes from the hotel along dark, windy two-lane roads. Problem. I started plotting a way we (me) could avoid driving that evening, looking into cabs, car services and anything else I could find. Knowing a number of other guests shared our transportation concerns - we all wanted to be safe, but no one wanted to be a designated driver - and there were limited transportation options in the immediate vicinity, I started looking into chartering a school bus. I requested quotes from a few places and found First Student the easiest to deal with. I plugged all of the event information into their website and got a quote in about 24 hours. Other quotes rolled in days later, if at all. The bride and groom enthusiastically accepted our offer to provide the shuttle as our wedding gift to them. My manfriend called and finalized the arrangements, receiving an email confirmation with all of the details. Since my partner-in-crime was in the wedding party, I was in charge of meeting the driver and making sure things went as planned. Our driver, I forget his name, made that job easy. He was awesome; he pulled into the hotel parking lot at 5 on the dot and left exactly when I asked him to for his first shuttle trip. I rode the second shuttle to the reception and he got us there quickly and efficiently, like he drove the route often. We agreed that he would leave on the hour to take people back to the hotel as needed, which again went off without a hitch. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend First Student again. Arrangements were simple and our driver was prompt, friendly and flexible.

Say what you will, I like this stop. My only criticism is that I would have like departure screens…read moreat the platform, rather than on the ramp before it. + Station is fully accessible to those with disabilities, as there are no steps or stairs on any kind. + Platform is fully covered from wind and elements, with some skylights for natural light. It is also wider than average in the CTA, and has more benches than average. + Station is clean. I didn't encounter excessive dirt or grime, and the station smelled lightly of disinfectant/cleaner. + While the vibe on Saturday morning may not be indicative of all days and times, I felt no safety or security concerns. Thus, while I may not use Linden very often, it does a fine job as far as train stations go. Having screens on the platform so passengers know how long to wait is all it would take to go from a four to a five.
