There aren't a lot of signs, look for the Metro signs, almost all the workers at the airport take the train so they can direct you. The ticket machines can initialy be a little confusing, and some are inevitably out of order. Avoid the ones that read "for tourists" as they only dispense the more expensive package. What you want is a ten ride ticket with round trip airport. If there are two of you, both sets of tickets will be on the one card. Trains are frequent, so take your jetlagged time getting from the ticket machine down to the train stop.

From the airport, you'll take Line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios and then connect to wherever you needed to go. Line 8 is one of the few where the announcements are also in English. The connections were quite easy to maneuver in my opinion. For me, I took Line 10 to Santo Domingo and then Line 3 to Callao and ended up near my hotel. Very seamless process. A tad bit of walking underground, but that is to be expected outside the US. I found that the 10 trip is the most efficient deal for a 3 day stay. The signage is pretty clear in my opinion. I think it's easy for any foreigner to manage manuevering, granted they've had some experience navigating the metros in their local cities.

They have a wide variety of treats including gluten free and vegan food and beers. As we had a long flight coming in and a long train ride ahead of us, that was a nice respite. Boarding at the station is similar to pretty much any other and for us, the walk was not far at all, although it did look like some trains could be more difficult to get to. We also took another train to Toledo a bit later in our trip and the experience was very similar. That platform was a bit more of a walk into the station and it was considerably more difficult to find out platform, but after having done it once, it would be simple the next time.

But when my party of 6…read morestrategically planned our trip to Morocco, we intentionally built in a long overnight layover so we could squeeze in a few cultural activities before coming home to the states. One part of that plan was- a nighttime Big Bus tour that began just a few hours after we landed from Tangier and ended up being a great decision. The double-decker bus is comfortable and has spacious seats. Thankfully, the weather was on our side. It was sunny, warm and yes, hot- but the beautiful evening made the ride even more enjoyable. The bus attendant(?) was welcoming and handed out brand new headphones that you plug right into the seat in front of you that came extra handy when the recordings pointed out city landmarks and monuments along the way. A special shoutout goes to the driver, who made the entire ride even better. They drove super smooth, never rushed the ride and made everyone feel relaxed, take in the sights and really enjoy the evening-nighttime city views. This was a fun and surprisingly relaxing way to experience the city during our layover and we made time for it.

Living room was comfortable for six people to socialize. Juliet balcony (large enough to stand on) looked down on small plaza and looking sideways down to the boulevard bordering the Prado and Botanical Garden. Another reviewer wrote about a poor experience at breakfast, however our experience was the opposite. Buffet offerings included a variety of fresh fruit (kiwi, orange slices, pineapple, melons, etc.); bread (croissants, pain au chocolate, etc.); sliced meats (Iberian ham, other hams, smoked salmon etc.); various hot and cold cereals; pastries (apple tart etc.) as well as made to order eggs, including omelets, bacon, sausage. The staff for the breakfasts was outstanding. Very friendly, helpful and very efficient. We found the breakfasts to be exceptional. Similarly, the front desk staff were very friendly, and knowledgeable. They recommended "Salmon Guru," a fantastic bar an easy walk from the hotel. The only thing we found to be less than amazing was that the lobby was quite small. Big enough to wait to meet someone, but it did not invite lingering. I cannot comment on price/value as this was part of a larger package booked through a Spanish travel agent. En suite bathroom and half bath off the living room were clean, modern, spacious with excellent water pressure and temperature.

Even in HOT weather the water is freezing. Past those two things the staff, cleaning staff, and location in particular were amazing.
