I hadn't originally planned to visit Toledo, but I'm glad I chose to take the train when I did add this side trip for Madrid. My mouth kind of dropped when I entered the train station. I've never been in one so beautiful, and spent probably 30-45 minutes taking photos. While it looks quite old this station is only a little over a century old (rail travel isn't a medieval mode of travel, of course). But the station is constructed in a neo-mudejar style, a reflection of the Spanish, Arabic history of this city. There is colored glass--I'm not sure if it's true stained glass or art glass--throughout. Though you don't need to take nearly as much time as I did, it's certainly worth a loop around the station to admire its beauty. It's a one-room building, so it won't take very long. read more

I don't know that I've ever seen a more beautiful train station. Really worth the time to experience as a travel site in its own right. No need to hire the 6 Euro taxi, the bus comes often to take you up to Toledo, but it's also only a 30 minute walk if you're fit. The cafeteria is pleasant, there are a couple of restaurants including a Chinese joint across the street. Weekend trains are usualy sold out, but if you get back early than your return ticket you can sometimes rebook for the earlier train. Get back 20 minutes before your train is scheduled to depart, they have you line up and wait a bit before boarding. read more

Small train station, but beautifully designed and highly efficient. We took a day trip from Madrid to Toledo on the Renfe, and didn't have to walk too far to get out of the station in the morning. The waiting area wasn't too big, but it was open and high ceiling'd. It is amazing easy to get to Toledo using the train...30-ish minutes. Knowing that the gates to train platforms open 15min prior to departure and close 5 minutes to scheduled departure made it easy to plan our departure from the Old City. If you're into Hop On/Off buses, they have a booth at the station. There's a small cafe inside, but we didn't have the time to do anything but pass through the door and head out to the platform. The building itself is nice. On the inside its tiled lined, stained glass portal windows, and designed in an olde Arabic design - similar to the designs of the building in the old town built more than 400 years before it. We walked to the sites in the old city in less than 15 minutes from the station and came back in about the same time from the other end of the city - which speaks to the walkability of Toledo and the access that the train station has to that part of the city. No reason not to train in... and see Toledo if you can. read more

So so easy to get to Toledo via train. It's absolutely worth the day trip from Madrid given how quickly you can get to and from. The ride is only a little over half an hour. It's wild! The train station in Toledo is located close to the city center. Toledo is walkable but be mindful that there are tons of hills. You will be getting a work out in. If you can't do that, you can catch a taxi that's waiting out front or buy tickets for the hop on hop off bus. They tend to start boarding the bus about 15 mins prior to it leaving. read more

You know a train station is amazing when it is a legitimate attraction in its own right. It is fitting to have this as the first thing you see when entering Toledo. The 100 yrs. old station has a confluence of several influences in its design Arabic. The rails started traveling toToledo in 1858. The original station was opened by Isabel II of Spain. The present station opened in1919. It follows the historic architecture of the city. The central section is flanked by two side naves, one of which is adjacent to the clock tower, which imitates the style of Toledo church towers. We found a tickets office, snack bar, gift shop as well as a hop on off bus station. We were directed towards the old walled city. read more

The train station in Toledo is beautiful. The building was built in 1858 and rebuilt in 1919. The bathrooms are clean and they have great signage. The staff was friendly and made the experience of changing tickets an easy one. My train showed up on time and departed on the minute. I received excellent service in the restaurant and enjoyed the outdoor patio. They have a nice gift shop and information area. read more

Nice and simple train station that does the job for people traveling between Madrid and Toledo. There's a cafe attached where you can sit and grab a quick bite before or after. One thing to note for tourists is that you can change your train ticket at the counter pending availability of trains. For example, I booked a 5pm train back, but I was done by 1 and wanted to head back at 1:30pm. They processed it, but be a bit mindful that the English isn't great and that you need to print a ticket number from the kiosk while in line before it's your turn. read more

Toledo was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 for its extensive monumental and cultural heritage, and the beauty begins as soon as you arrive at the train station. Upon arrival, plenty of taxi is waiting outside. I checked for Uber and MyTaxi app but they seemed not available here but I was glad to see so many taxi lined up. Going to the historical area of the city, lots of hills and luggage don't mix well and I was happy to take a short taxi ride to my hotel. Departure: security is outside at the platform. They make you take off your jacket in winter outside.... it's only 3 platforms, easy to figure out, or that's what I thought. While sitting at the bench at the platform working on my laptop, so many passengers kept coming up to me if this train was bound to Madrid and what time boarding begins... in Spanish. Did they honestly think I speak Spanish and know what I am doing there? lol Renfe train to Toledo boarding began 30 minutes before scheduled departure. Small train station but I recommend arriving early to get through the security. Not a bad place to wait to admire beautiful architecture. read more

Gayle and I took the high-speed AVE Renfe Train from Atocha Station in Madrid for a very pleasant day trip to Toledo. It took all of about 30 minutes, and before we knew it we were walking across the River and up the Hill to the walled ancient City. You can take the bus too, but why not get the exercise and directly admire the views? You can also buy a good map here for a couple Euros, although the free Tourist Office version is just fine. The Toledo Railway Station was designed by architect Narciso Clavería in the Neo-Mudéjar style, and opened in 1920. Its central section is flanked by two side naves, one of which is adjacent to the clock tower, which imitates the style of Toledo church towers. The station has been declared a Property of Cultural Interest and classified as a Monument. Please note that when we bought our train ticket, we had to specify a return time. We ended up coming back a little early and a straightforward procedure to change the ticket was required. There's also a nice little coffee shop in the Station to pass the time until departure. Our carry-on bags were also security screened before we could board the train. read more

What a great way to start our visit in Toledo. Buildings like this train station is the reason people come to Europe/Spain. It's to marvel at the craftsmanship and artistry of all these buildings. The train station (and Toledo in general) hosts influences from Muslim, Jewish, and Christian cultures, which makes looking around the city that much more fun. This station to me was most reflective of Arabesque detailing , and the tiles, stained glass windows, and detailed craved trims were fabulous. Also, the bathrooms were quite reasonable and I was happy to spend some time here waiting for the train back to Madrid. read more

This is a love note to one of the most beautiful train stations I have ever seen. Big statement, right? It's the Arabesque details of this train station that made me take 20+ photos. From the large stained glass windows on both sides of the main corridor to the stunning clock tower, it is clear someone put some serious thought and energy into its construction. Located only thirty minutes from Madrid by the high speed trains, you'll find that the train station is located at the bottom of the hill that is home to Toledo at the top. Wear smart walking shoes and expect a 15-20 minute walk to the top. I would say the hike to the top is part of the fun. The train station offers a small tourism office (2 euros for a map), cafe, clean bathrooms and a souvenir shop. It appears that the Toledo hop on and off tourism bus makes a stop at the train station. Free wifi is spotty but available. Take a moment to soak in the architecture of this building before heading to the historic city center. read more

Very pleasant experience with this station. both times i've been, it has been relatively hassle free. well, except for one snag. my friend bought a sword and we were assured that we could take it on the train. we were mislead. security says it has to be put in a box and taped up. they sent us god knows where for a box to be able to catch our train that was leaving in five minutes. i said eff that and went to the conveniently located cafe at the station and they gave me the perfect box for a sword as if they already knew. we caught our train no problem. if we had checked up on the sword policy instead of sitting in said cafe drinking a bucket of cruz campo beer, we would not have had that problem. but all is well. The station is about 15-20 minute walk to what seems like the central plaza (depends on how many picture stops you take) it is a very enjoyable stroll along the river and through the city gates. The station itself is spacious and airy on hot summer days. they have a cafe and outside seating patio. i understand that you can also get maps at some tourist office there. (i dont know about that, because i usually go rogue) read more

Beautiful train station in Toledo...very easy to navigate and stunning interior architecture. Station is about a 30 minute ride from Madrid...and it is a very pretty trip. Once you arrive at the Toledo station, it is a solid 20 minute walk (but steep, all up hill) to the central plaza of Toledo. Station has a nice little cafe and outside seating patio. read more

Really cool station. The architecture is very beautiful in the old Spanish style design. I completely recommend the train from Madrid to the station and back rather than a bus as it takes about 30 minutes the train is really nice and only cost about 20+ Euro round trip. If you take the bus you're going to be at least an hour and probably bus sick. At the station you can get a little bite to eat and beverages along with some souvenirs it's quaint. read more

It's an old building. Clean and courteous employees. The trains runs on time, almost to the second so don't get left behind. There should provide more seatings or even free standing for the people who are waiting. Because it's an old building, there's limited space and that's a pain in the neck when the weather's not agreeing with you. read more

Negative one Took train from Madrid to Toledo. We were told in Madrid that it would be no problem to change our tickets. We missed our scheduled train and needed to pay again for new tickets. They refused to honor previously purchased tickets as we were told in Madrid. What's more , when we went to purchase new tickets (an additional 22 euros) , we were told it was sold out. Furthermore, none of the ticket sales persons spoke English. Very poor experience in Toledo thanks to train station Too make things worse, the train that was reportedly full had numerous seats and stayed in the station for 40 Minutes after they turned late customers Away. Those folks had to pay for new tickets as well. read more

My family arrived at this station from the Atocha Renfe train station in Madrid in about half an hour. The station's architecture and interior spaces are quite pretty with nice glass windows and quirky stone patterns. Also, it was quite clean and spacious. It was also nice that there was a tourism office located at the station where all your questions could be answered about Toledo and the one-stop for all your maps and guides. The lady who helped us at the tourism office was very welcoming and friendly giving us different options of how to get into town and how long it would take. A hop-on-hop-off bus stops right outside the station that will take you to and back from the main part of town for about 8 euros. The public restrooms are pretty clean, there's a cafe, and a souvenir shop. In the winter, it might get a little cold, so you might want to try to snag a seat inside, otherwise there's plenty of benches outside. But the station blocks a lot of the wind, so it's not too cold. The staff was also very efficient in getting the line moving to board the train and go through security. Overall, a pleasant experience here.... just wish there were more trains that went between Madrid and Toledo. read more
