TL;DR/The Short Version: Cool health food store in Perth,…read moreON. Lots of local, organic, and ethically sourced products. The Long Version: I love health food stores, so I had to check out Foodsmiths when we were in Perth. It's similar to Dandelion Foods in Almonte, and Natural Food Pantry or Kardish in Ottawa. Foodsmiths does seem to have more local items though and they have a formidable bakery section that the other stores I mentioned lack. They had tarts from Mrs. Garrett's Bake Shop (in Inverary, Ontario). As an aside, when I hear Mrs. Garrett, I will forever think of Charlotte Rae's character in "The Facts of Life." Lol. This clearly exposes me of being of a certain vintage ;) The regular prices of items that are easily found at other stores (e.g. Carbonaut, Made Good, Organic Meadow, etc.) are a tad higher than at the stores in Ottawa, but they have clearance sections and discounted items throughout the store. We were there at the end of January (2025) and I noticed a small Lunar New Year display with red lanterns, red parasols and a blue dragon. I was surprised to see that they sell sandals (!) They're all Birkenstock style sandals though, lol, the brands I saw were Finn Comfort, Haflinger, and Mephisto. I enjoyed poking around the store. Lots of free parking in their private parking lot. Without realizing we were cutting into the line because we came from the opposite end of the store we started to place our purchases on the belt. We were rudely informed by some young man obviously an employee, that we were to remove our packages and get to the end of the line. No explanation, no smile, nothing! I guess he decided that we had done it intentionally. We apologized and picked up our groceries. It wasn't necessary to be so nasty about it. He could have given us the benefit of the doubt. When it was our turn to check out lady at the express customer service counter where rude young man ultimately directed us to go was equally as dour and unfriendly. My friend accompanying me was from out of town and commented that this was the most unfriendly grocery she had ever been in. Next time we'll just go to Metro. I was embarrassed!

When I returned home my wife went through the invoice and noticed that I was charged through at $9.99. I immediately returned to the store and asked for the manager. He met me at the meat counter opposite the bread department. He explained that the price was $9.99 the same price as the meat balls plaque indicated. The meat ball plaque indicated $9.99 for meat balls-there was no mention of price for Italian sausage outside what I saw was $5.00. There was no admit or apology of wrong pricing or confused pricing. He says the $5.00 pricing was for some canned goods. I do believe that the customer deserves the right to have items more clearly priced-I would not have bought this item at this price plus I incurred additional expenses including another trip to the store. Shopping in Arnprior is sure becoming more challenging - incorrect pricing, competitive pricing and lack of inventory.

Freshco to me seems to be a bit like a no-frills, maybe just a bit better. (Incidentally they are building a NF in my 'hood!) Overall, it's ok, but not my favourite.
