When I told people I was going to Perth, everyone was like "you have to go to the Perth Pie Company!" Actually the first thing they said was "you're going to Perth, Australia?" And I was like "no, Perth, Ontario." Then they told me about the Perth Pie Company, lol. I like pie, so I figured why not? Haha. So I went to the Perth Pie Company. I didn't want to commit to an entire pie, so I asked if they sold pie by the slice and the friendly and patient man working there advised me that the only pie they had by the slice that day was the Fieldberry pie. I asked about the mini pies and he told me the only mini pies they had that day was Strawberry Rhubarb. Given my limited choices, I got the Strawberry Rhubarb mini pie. I believe it was $8.50 or thereabouts. It was a little bit bigger than my hand. I'd say it's about 2 servings of pie. The pie was tasty. It wasn't too sweet and the crust was rich and buttery, but not overly so. I would have liked more filling as it seemed kind of empty. Nonetheless, it was enjoyable. The inside of the shop is cute. It has tables and chairs, couches and even a piano. The store is wheelchair accessible. They have one of those "Stop Gap" ramps at the entrance. They don't give a shit about offering a good service to their clients. The person that answered the phone this time wasn't rude but didn't offer me any solution at all and didn't do anything to make it up for it, instead she said yeah I'm sorry about this and we're not baking until next year.... Their location in Smiths Falls is not a retail store, but they do sell online and you can arrange for pick up at the location. They also deliver, and their products can be found at several health food stores such as Natural Food Pantry and Kardish. This bakery makes the best gluten-free bread and bagels in my opinion, but be advised that they do not taste like regular bread or bagels. They do not contain yeast and are very dense and textured. My husband calls it "twiggy hippie bread" implying that it tastes like it's made of twigs and is consumed by tree-hugging hippies. I do not disagree with his assessment, lol. It's not smooth Wonder Bread. It has texture and is chock-full of fibre. I love it for this very reason. I love their classic oat bagels. They are very versatile and can be used for both savoury and sweet meals. Their tomato and basil bagels and curry and onion buns are excellent for savoury sandwiches. Their cinnamon raisin bagels or bread loaves are excellent for a sweet snack. Their items are pricey. Bagels and buns are $7.50-8.50 for packs of 4 and loaves are $9-$10 each. Health Food stores may mark the items up further. Although, I sometimes get them on discount at the health food stores when they are nearing their best before date.
