Weekday commuters use the train to get into LA, or to Inion station where the red line, for example, connects with Mid-Wilshire, etc. If you live or park near the Allen station (watch the neighborhood signs restricting parking without a permit, or park a block or two away where there are no signs) you can easily catch the train to Old Town Pasadena, the village area of South Pasadena, or go get some Mu Shu pork in Chinatown. Great for folks who don't mind walking a bit, or who like to have a few adult beverages and don't want to risk a DUI. All riders now must have a TAP card (purchase and reload at the kiosks) or a pass... No more paper tickets. While chances are you'll never have an incident on any public transportation vehicle, there are still the occasional weirdos, people with chronic coughs and poorly dressed wounds, the costume people, homeless folks in desperate need of a shower. There's that loud group of IDGAF teen gangstas from time to time. Essentially, many of the folks that are too strange for the DMV? They're going Metro! If you don't mind the adventure, it's actually an outstanding people watching venue. The Allen station is outdoors and you have to make sure you don't miss the trains when they pull up... They go farther forward on the platform than would seem convenient, so be prepared to run, or move to the end of the platform when you seethe train coming. Try waving at cars going by to pass the time.

Sorry but there are little to no inter transit bus connections to other agencies. This is a very fast bus because the frequency is very good. This bus can be very crammed at times but luckily because frequency is good there are other buses of the same route nearby. You don't have to work yourself up if one vehicle is crowded. If you are a tourist this is your bus to go to different points of interests all the way the way to Santa Monica beach. They no longer have the 920 because it is long gone. It is gone due to low ridership. I would ride this bus again is possible even with the cramming.

The Rapid 720 is the east-west artery that gets me from my residence near Beverly and Wilshire to most spots, especially Union Station downtown (via a connection at either the Wilshire/Western or Wilshire/Vermont Metro stations). There are lots of homeless and weirdos on this particular line, but you will get the hang of it once you ride it regularly. Until the Wilshire/Rodeo station opens in 2025, this is the best we've got. If anyone makes you uncomfortable, sit as close to the front of the bus and the driver as possible. The bus drivers are told to allow/ignore fare evaders, which I think is a foolish policy, but there's nothing I can do about that. The Rapid 920 was a super-limited service which they have since discontinued and are unlikely to resume given that they're building new stations as far west as the VA anyway. Download the Metro app if you haven't already. That allows you to know exactly when a bus is coming. Hey, it's not perfect, but it works.

I took the expo line from downtown to Santa Monica on the last day of my trip. It was easy to…read moreunderstand and it took less than an hour to go from downtown to S.M. The station does pass by a couple of landmarks like Olympic stadium, shrine auditorium, and one of the collages. The scenery to and from is not bad either, I always like looking out the window and notice these things. I did see some homeless people on the train but that pretty normal in this town. I did not experience any overcrowdedness or anybody talking loudly on their phones. When I arrived at the last stop I noticed two metro police at the entrance so that felt good knowing they were visible and ready to help if needed. i did ask them for directions to the airport taking public transportation and they were helpful on that topic. The pier is literally just down and street and you can see it from the station. There is a ramp available for those with wheelchairs, scooters or in my case suitcases haha. On the way to the pier, there are some restaurants including a McDonalds (it is super crowded due to the tourist getting food). There is a super pretty mural across the street from the station (look at my picture for info). Also pro tip; if you are needing to travel to LAX from this location, go to the mural and a little further down there is a bus stop. Wait there for a bus that says 'aviation LAX'. This bus will take you to the airport in about 40 minutes and only cost $1.70 without a tap card. Still cheaper than doing flyaway for $8 or a private shuttle that starts at $25. If you are thrifty like me choose the bus.

And is also diagonal from Birmingham Community High School (high school of Sally Field and Lucy Arnaz to name a few). Balboa station can lead you to several businesses nearby on foot, bike, scooter, Metro LA city busses or car as they have their own parking lot at this station. Usually never too busy of a stop as Reseda Station or Van Nuys Station. Bus path walkways that connect pretty far down heading west or east. Load your tap card at one of the kiosk on either side and go + be prepared for next time.

The wait times are pretty small during the day, but like most of the metro system in Los Angeles and even more so in the San Fernando Valley... Does slow down in the later afternoon/evening and throughout the night. You can refill or purchase a physical metro tap card at either kiosk east or westbound side. As far as parking and riding metro you're limited to street parking which can have some restrictions as it's most residential, but if you're local to the area this may not even be and issue otherwise the Van Nuys (free), Sepulveda (free) and NoHo Stations ($3 daily) are the closests with parking lots.

LADOT buses have clean windows, and so do public transit buses in San Diego, Portland, Seattle, SF.

Last stop, first hop…read more Downtown Santa Monica Station is part to the L.A. Metro Goldline, renamed the E Line, but we still call it the Goldline... because this is the L.A. way. The station is easy, clean and fun, not a huge fan of the TAP to EXIT they implemented during my most recent trip and have a some stations. People have jobs, events, deadlines, situations and places they'd like to get through without the added stress. I'm all for helping with safety and reducing crime but there needs to be a much smoother system. If someone needs to transfer not only do they have to wait behind anyone ahead of them for each individual exit, they also have to remember to pull out their phone or card again. What happens if someone can't load the app, losses power or losses their physical card during that time they're riding... I enjoy taking the Gold down to Santa Monica and do think this is one of the better stations in Greater Los Angeles. They just have to implement better measures. You can ride Metro rail Downtown Santa Monica Station on Colorado Avenue between 4th & 5th. No parking for metro, but lots of local garages close by if traveling or community from Santa Monica.
