i really thought i was being strategic. "half an hour is plenty," i told myself, confidently paying $2.50 for parking. the plan was simple: go to guest services, check on the expiry of my gift cards, and leave. then i walked by the grand court and ooooh, look at how pretty and massive the lunar new year lantern is. the bold red lantern suspended under the glass ceiling, surrounded by oversized pink blooms, was stunning. they even included interesting facts from the chinatown storytelling centre, which made the display feel thoughtful and educational, not just decorative. it was beautiful and absolutely not something you rush past. i tried to stay focused, but this is metropolis at metrotown. as the largest mall in bc and one of the biggest in canada, it offers pretty much everything under one roof. fashion from zara, aritzia, arcteryx, uniqlo and sephora. staples like the apple store and h&m (with an escalator out of order during my visit). daiso. muji. winners and homesense. walmart, the real canadian superstore, t&t, shopper's drug mart, cineplex, banks, bubble tea shops, foreign exchange counters, restaurants and a food court. gone are anchors like hudson's bay and sears, but the variety today is still impressive. it really is a one stop hub. groceries, errands, shopping, entertainment, all convenient and connected directly to skytrain. but here's the thing: malls should not be charging for parking (unless it's downtown). we used to visit this mall a lot. it was an easy, go to destination. since parking fees were introduced, we honestly don't come nearly as often. when you're already planning to shop and spend money, paying just to park feels unnecessary. it changes the whole experience and makes even a quick visit feel calculated. the mall itself still has a great selection of stores and services. it delivers on convenience and variety. i just wish the parking situation didn't take away from that. next time, i'll likely skip the car and take skytrain instead. read more

A bit dated shopping mall. I find it slightly awkward to walk around because there are different sets of elevators that lead you to garage parking and not the point of destination where you want to go. Parking garage also dated. There is a Walmart, T&T inside. read more

I really enjoyed visiting this shopping mall when I visited Burnaby. Service: The employees at this mall are very friendly and there are a lot of employees throughout the mall. Selection: The mall has a wide selection of stores and a large food court. I liked the American Eagle Store a lot. Value: Most of the stores here are reasonably priced. read more

Metropolis at Metrotown is a mall like no other. T&T, superstore, Wallmart, Offices attached and near the mall, almost everything you can find is under 1 roof! The 2 things that would keep me from going for a 5 star is that The bay is gon but don't know who is replacing that space. as well as the Bridge leading from Skytrain leading to the entrance on the upper level near Starbucks. Over all, great mall with the Expo line station and lots of parking both in the podium and in the underground parkade! even durring the busy shopping seasons, nothing is more then a shopping Trip at Metrotown! read more

You know all that talk about 20-minute neighborhoods, where everything you need is within a short walk's distance? Imagine that, but indoors, with three floors, and taking a *lot* more than 20 minutes to roam its Cyclopean corridors, and you'll have some idea of what to expect here. You think I'm kidding? Need a lawyer? There's an office for one here. Home & auto insurance? They have an office for that, too. Currency conversion? Health care? Dental? Optometry? Automotive needs? Tattoo? Shave and a haircut? Hell, there's even a Walmart attached (not to mention a Canadian Superstore)! Oh yeah, they have all those other mall stapes as well: clothing stores and boutiques, cellular providers, a fantastic variety of dining options (even beyond the food court), and just about every upscale (re: snobbish) fashion and accessories retailer, from Armani to ZARA. Very overwhelming Mega Mall! Took us forever to walk three levels of the mall and we didn't even see the whole mall. So many shops, with big box stores, Walmart, The Bay, Bed Bath & Beyond just to name a few. The a hug food court with many fast food to choose from. Our favourite store T & T Market!! This location is the largest we have ever been in. Has a lot of foot traffic due to bus stop connection on the lower level of the mall and Sky Train across the street. - Plenty of parking - traffic is heavy - foot traffic is also heavy All in all we really enjoyed the mall and all trendy shops read more

This mall is not for those who have anxiety in crowed places. The mall is three level and it would take 3 days to really go thru all the stores there is there. Its is very overwhelming. First - PARKING-- small garage but its free. Bring patience and remember to take a photo of where you park for reference afterwards. Once you are in try to located the mall directory map. I took my girls there for one specific store so make sure you know why you are there and stick with the plan, otherwise you will get lost and waste a lot of time trying to get out. Definitely go here when you have lots of time to waste. I didn't even get to go to the one store I wanted to check out the asian market (T&T Supermarket) because the line going in was out the door. Would like to go back for sure. I think we spent like 3 hours there and only go to go into 4 stores. The food court is crazy busy and finding a seat to eat can be challenging. Learn to share seating with strangers would be my suggestion. Its an internationally food court so that was a nice surprise. I would have liked to tried a few of the other restaurants/dining options that were not in the food court next time. I think the quality in food would be better. read more

Decent mall with a lot of good stores and good parking lot. They layout of the mall is terrible though and inefficient, so you'll end up doing a lot of walking, but at least you'll get your steps in! The parking lot is also ok, just a little dark. There is also a lot of construction in the area which can be a hassle for traffic. read more

Metrotown is always busy no matter what time of day or what day of the week you decide to go to this mall, unless it's really early like 30 minutes after opening. This mall is a great one stop shop if you're ok with how busy it is here. This mall has Superstore, Walmart, Toys R Us, Winners, theatres, the Bay, etc. And that's why it's always jam-packed. I usually find what I am looking for when I am in this mall, then I leave. read more

Pretty awesome mall. They have a lot of selection here. Parking gets a bit busy but there is always plenty of parking as they have a huge parking lot. For international travelers, they offer free internet here. We really enjoyed the TNT supermarket that is within the mall. We got some lunch at their deli and afterwards, we headed to the train area so the kids could ride on the Choo Choo train. It is pretty cute. For $1 or something, you can take a short ride around the mall. During Christmas time, there is a free photograph with Santa. read more

This mall is huge! We only walked about a quarter of it and I already saw tons of stores! Lots of variety of retail, restaurants, and even super markets! Worth a check while in the area. Especially loved that it is connected to our hotel through a walk bridge. Only downside is that it is super duper crowded!! read more

There are over 300 plus businesses at the large regional mall in Burnaby, British Columbia. Parking is underground with tight spaces in several areas. I was surprised to see 2 competing businesses relatively close to one another, one being Walmart and the other that resembles the operations of a Walmart but it's a Real Canadian Superstore. There are a good variety of food available not only in the food court but in strategic places throughout all levels of the mall. The directory would be the best to locate these vs. walking around for several hours to find eateries. Parking is limited to 4 free hours and I don't know how they enforce this. read more

Metropolis is a gigantic mall! I'm not sure what was going on there, but it was incredibly busy when I went there on a Saturday. It was rainy outside, so I guess this is where everyone goes? This mall reminds me of the ones in China as they were humongous as well, but never super busy where walking around was difficult. There's over 400 stores in here with the typical ones you find at almost every shopping mall. It has a theatre as well, and a large food court. It also has T&T, which we went to. Parking was difficult to find closest to the entrances, but there were ample amount of spaces just a short walk away. You can literally get everything you need at Metropolis. There's so many stores that you spend an entire day in. It was pretty cool seeing just SO many people packed in a very big shopping mall. But...where was Superman? read more

Overwhelming can best describe this mega mall boasting over 330 shops. They have a something for everyone's taste from a variety of fast foods at their food court. Being from south of the border, there are other malls that I prefer that are similar in size as well as the more familiar name brand department stores like Nordstrom's. Ventured here briefly for an appointment recently, although I was extremely hesitant due to Covid-19. And it turns out, for good reason. The mall is extremely busy, many people are not wearing masks, not social distancing, and not following signs (and signs seem to be few and far between). There seem to be a lack of mall staff around ensuring these guidelines are followed. I won't be coming back until Covid-19 shows signs of dissipating. Also, some of their elevators are still out since my original review of 2017. It's been three years now! Management clearly continues to do an extremely poor job of providing basic accessibility. Honestly, their incompetency in this area is mind-boggling and bordering on discriminatory for those who require accessible features. read more

This review is specifically for the Food court. I don't really get excited to eat food served in a food-court environment because it is extremely noisy, they serve food on cheap line dishes (mostly on paper, plastic or styrofoam) and I don't really trust small places when it comes to safety and hygiene, particular in places like malls, where everyone is hungry and lining up to get food. Anyhow, we ended up in Metrotown with some friends and their 2 little boys. It was a little late and the boys were hungry and wanted a hot dog. They got theirs and the parents bought some calamari. We thought we should join them, so we walked around the entire food court to see if we could spot something enticing. We found a Persian/Greek place, which had kebabs and lamb shank on their menu; this attracted us because we love anything with lamb! My husband, one of our friends and I decided to order their shank and a kebab dish with Dill and Saffron rice. Both the dishes were really good! The lamb was tender and falling off the bones. It was succulent and packed with flavour. I couldn't comprehend the large portion of rice that accompanied it but lucky for us, we had 3 guys and 2 little boys who love rice! The kebab was also delicious but just a tad dry. Nonetheless, it was packed with flavour and just pleasant to eat. The rice was fluffy and filling. I really disliked the plates. They were cheap, ugly and probably not BPA-free. I am usually very cautious with materials containing BPA but I was probably so excited with the lamb dish, I didn't pay too much attention. The area is quite crowded and not too comfortable. Anyhow, it was so great to see families dining together and the place buzzing vibrantly. For those who don't mind noise and crowded space and are looking for some Delicious lamb and kebabs, this is a great place to try our! It's a shame I can't remember the name but I believe there is just the one place that serves these dishes in the entire food court. read more

Metrotown is HUGE! I enjoy shopping at big malls since it equates to a one stop shopping, dining and entertainment destination. This mall with underground free parking garage and easy access to the Skytrain has over 450 stores & eateries and a cinema on the top level. This centre has some good stores such as The Bay, Sport Chek, Winners, A&E, Old Navy, HMV (2 of them!), Real Canadian Superstore, T&T Supermarket, and Sony Style. Many of the stores at Metrotown I've shopped at across Canada and in the USA. The mini train that shuttles kids through the mall looks like fun! My favourite big box electronics stores (Best Buy & Future Shop) where I like to check out the coolest gear and music & movies, are not in the Metrotown complex, but are located within walking distance, very close by in adjacent shopping centres. There's a pedestrian bridge crossing over Kingsway which provides easy access to Best Buy. However, now I know better not to try to shop here on the weekends since the mall is very mobbed with masses of people and very hard to move around. I was trying my best to negotiate through the crowds throughout the mall. Next time, I'll have to shop here on a weekday. The parking garage was easy-in, easy-out with no trouble finding a spot. read more

Came here for some shopping. Maybe it's Christmas season or something, but wow, today was a freaking war zone. People were EVERYWHERE. Maybe I'm really clumsy or something, but I literally kept running into people. It actually got to the point where I started to feel really claustrophobic. The only place that wasn't completely swamped was the 2nd floor of the Bay. No need to say too much about this place, as the sheer popularity of the mall speaks for itself. I'm sure most of the Burnaby population come here regularly. Maybe things are better (ie quieter) here on weekdays. Just a tip. read more

Yey! Whats not to love? Coming from Edmonton, home of WEST EDMONTON MALL, this is the closest thing around. Bay, Sears, Winners, Zellers, Superstore, 2 Dollar stores! Lots of shops, lots of selection. Always can find something to buy here! Pius love the frozen yogurt ! More then one place to chose from! On the Skytrain route. Open late Mon-Sat. ( so always a go to place for last min late night false nail fixes! ) Not overly crowded, I just wish they had a few high end stores like Nordstroms, or even JC Penny or Macy's.... This is our go to mall for just about everything. They have almost every store you can think of. Aside from the ever popular clothing and shoe stores, there are all types of food, salons, grocery stores, dentists, optometrists, spas, car wash, theatres, pet store, engravers, portraits studio, wine shop, barber shops, florists, arcade, chocolatiers, a post office, auto plan, ICBC, the list goes on ... and ... there ... are ... no ... duplicate ... shops!!! Meaning one store for one company. There is ample park (big in my book). For you non-drivers, the transit system to get here is superb as well. The best part? Another shopping stop in downtown Burnaby, the heart of all that is Asian in Vancouver. While many of the stores inside weren't very memorable to me, Metropolis At Metrotown is home to the very FIRST Uniqlo in Vancouver!! What was even more exciting was that I got to visit during their second week of operation. I also enjoyed exploring H&M. The WiFi is spotty, which was a big problem for me, as an international traveler. The content search for WiFi drained my iPhone battery so fast (and that's saying a lot for a brand new iPhone). I believe there's also a very large Asian Market on the ground floor of the mall, which has one of the most expansive hot food/prepared food sections I've ever seen, with plenty of my favorite foods in sight. We ended up getting some taro and red bean toast, some Asian breads for breakfast, and a 6-pack of egg tarts. This seems to be one of the more popular and busy spots in Metrotown, so plan accordingly! read more

Pandemic update. Went to the mall for the first time since the March lock down. Did mostly online shopping but still needed to try some items. Disappointed when entering the mall from the underground parking to see no automatic door, only major contact "push door handle". When surfacing to the mall level there were no hand sanitizers or personnel for crowd control. It was midday on a Tuesday but still a fair amount of people. Folks were walking in all directions, no social distancing. These retailers have been hard and I'm sure they pay a premium on their rent. COME ON METROTOWN you can do better! Individual stores that I visited were good in limiting number of customers entering & providing sanitizer, most asking customers to wear masks. Sorry metro town will not be visiting you this fall or anytime soon. My concern is if it looks like this on a sunny August afternoon, what's it going to look like during our rainy, winter flu season? My worry is not for myself because I will not be returning anytime soon, but for our community when all their visitors shop & go back home after a day shopping in an enclosed, unregulated mall? Hopefully METROTOWN will get their act SOON & avoid another shutdown! read more

At a time when businesses are struggling and internet shopping is only increasing, adding pay parking is suicide. I parked underground. My intention was a latte at Starbucks, new frames and glasses from Lenscrafters (or whichever store I could find lovely frames), a wedding gift from the bedding place, possibly a new phone because my battery is shit and socks from the Bay (can you tell this is my first shopping trip since lockdown?). I stood in disbelief at the pay parking terminal. I weighed my desire to try the glasses on... To get help with a phone... With the option of safer shopping from home... Probably cheaper. I left, hit a drive thru for my latte and am now about to order online. If I owned a store or worked in one I'd be livid at the additional business being hurriedly pushed to online shopping.
