My boyfriend and I worked with Angela Metaras and were extremely satisfied with the rental process from beginning to end. Angela was knowledgable about the area and each building's details. After working with several different realtors during our search, her responsiveness made her stand out. She provided updates and apartment options quickly and we were able to sign our lease shortly after viewing an apartment. Apartment hunting is a headache, but having a reliable realtor like Angela made the difference in wrapping up the process quickly. read more

Since I have finally found a place to live at I wanted to finally leave a review since I feel comfortable enough to do so. A few months ago, I found a listing in the area I wanted. Angela was the realtor for this apartment. I reached out to her via text and call, she seemed nice. She showed up to the showing in active/gym wear which I thought was odd, she wasn't "dressed to impress" at all, which gave me the vibe that she was not prepared. I gave her the benefit of the doubt though since I am on the young side and totally get it. So whatever, she shows me the place and I love it, I hand in my docs the SAME morning, 1 hour after the showing (mind you this listing went on the market the night before I messaged and I was the ONLY showing that next day so my chances were pretty good). After that, I basically had to call her, text her, etc. to track her down and follow up about the apartment and my docs. I am sorry but If you are getting a brokers fee, the #1 thing you should do is follow up with your clients at the absolute least. I'd like to preface this by saying that me and my partners income combined is about 140k a year. We were denied due to our income for a $1800 a month apartment which I found extremely odd (our credits are both in the mid and high 700's). Fine though, whatever, it happens. I text her if she has any other listings, I would love to see some more places. She basically ghosted me in my time of need. Extremely unprofessional, disorganized to say the least - I would not recommend working with her. The simple fact I had to chase her down to get any response or an update, says more than enough. read more

I'm fortunate to make my first apartment deal in NYC with Ted; he is very generous, honest, friendly, and worked hard to strike a deal for me at my preferred price range. He was very responsible and communicative throughout this process. He even helped me with the parking situation at my new apartment upon my request! It was my pleasure working with Ted and Angela. They are someone who prefers taking pride in customer satisfaction rather than making some extra money! I would recommend them to anyone that is moving to the city for the first time :) read more

The rental market in New York City can often be compared to a very close earthly manifestation of the 7th Circle of Hell. Big bucks for small spaces, Craigslist crazies and run-around real estate agents are enough to nearly drive a girl to find a nest in the suburbs. NEARLY. After three days of searching Astoria, with five different agents, viewing over 20 apartments, I was all but ready to sign a one-year lease on a place I kind of liked that was a few hundred dollars out of my price range. Enter Metropolis Realty and Alex, my super-man-of-an-agent who quite literally saved the day, my sanity and a few thousand bucks over the next year! After calling Metropolis in a panic, Alex offered to meet my right away to show me an apartment in my price range. He was extremely cordial and comforting and ended up showing me a place that I not only LOVED, but was nearly $300 less than the place I previously only liked. I put my deposit down right away! Over the next few weeks, Alex was easy to get a hold of with questions about the apartment, returning my calls in a timely manner. He was very flexible with my schedule (as I was coming to sign the lease from out of state) and simply put my mind at ease with the moving process. He took the time to get over the finer points of the lease with me and was helpful in getting the keys to me at an odd hour during my moving process. If you are looking in the Astoria area, I would recommend Alex with full confidence in finding you a great apartment at a realistic price. read more

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience using Metropolis Realty. We saw an apartment yesterday with Ted and knew right away we were in good hands. We decided to move forward with signing a lease after Ted communicated with the landlord and negotiated the rent down. It was a no brainer. The overall experience has been easy, flexible to our needs, pleasant and enjoyable. Moving is stressful, so it was nice to work with Ted who aside from being a good broker, is a very nice person. Highly recommend if you're looking to live in Astoria! read more

I've waited three long years to find a public forum to vent about Metropolis (they had my posts on Craig's List deleted). You'd think the anger has died down, but the conduct was so egregious, I'll still be pissed 10 years from now. Maybe Nick has turned his act around since, perhaps my threats to call the Board of Realtors worked. Either way, he is the worst excuse for a businessman I have ever met. When my roommate and I first started looking for an apartment, Nick was all charm. Then, when we found the place we wanted and it wasn't ready in time, Nick stopped answering our calls. Nevermind the fact that my roommates and I were homeless for two weeks - Nick couldn't be bothered. Finally, when moving day came and my roommates and I prepared to move into our THREE bedroom apartment, my landlord told us the third bedroom wasn't actually a bedroom. Nick had LIED to us about it and the fact that doors were going to be put up. After several hours of my landlord and Nick screaming at each other, they finally compromised that Nick would pay to have the doors put up. It only took him 5 months to actually do it! Nick was rude, unprofessional and as sleazy as brokers get. Unfortunately, I happen to think they have nice listings - however I will never subject myself to that kind of treatment again. Oh and just a note - this behavior wasn't limited to Nick. Angela and Ted were equally horrific. read more

Metropolis happened to be the first office I called and the best people I worked with. I would totally recommend them to anybody looking to rent in Astoria for the first time. Nick and Angela showed us a total of three apartments (the third was the winner) and were flexible with their time, which is great because I work an inconsistent retail schedule. They also let us pay half of the deposit up front in cash, with the other half and the broker's fee at lease signing by personal check. Other brokers I researched or contacted didn't respond, didn't follow up, posted misleading listings with the same photos for every apartment, or showed me the same nasty, vermin-infested places I saw posted on Streeteasy 100 times over by 100 different people. A bad broker will do all sorts of underhanded, shady stuff to get paid a fee and go home. A good broker gets return business and referral business by doing the job right: finding good apartments for good people and working professionally and honestly. I really lucked out with Metropolis and will definitely call them again if I ever need to move. read more
When it comes to brokers, it's a rough game. And used car salesmen. I had lived in Astoria for more than a year and was ready for an upgrade. I visited with four other agencies/brokers before calling Metropolis. What a relief. I'm not going to say they're "heaven sent" or "just what the doctor ordered", but they were a tremendous upgrade from the ass holes and idiots I had dealt with at the other places. Both Angela and Nick worked with us (something tells me, though, that there are several Nicks in this office). They were professional, friendly, on our schedule, and seemingly honest. I'm sure they work most closely with a few landlords, but we got an outstanding apartment with everything we wanted an more (and our list of "wants" was a bit much for our price range). Originally, Nick said "there's a place but I think it's too small for you so we'll skip it". We said "NO!!!!!" and glad we did because it's our dream apartment in an amazing area of Astoria. I recommend them! read more

I had a horrible experience with Metropolis Realty. Their broker, Angela, came highly recommended via a trusted friend of mine for whom she found an absolutely fabulous apartment. So I was looking forward to working with her. When I first called, I was asked by the person who answered the phone what my name was and why I was calling. Really?? Is that the way to get new clients in this business?? Anyway, after I gave the names of the people who had referred me, I was allowed to speak to Angela. She seemed kind of irritated and not interested in helping me at all, but said she did have one place in mind. She promised to call me the next day at 10 AM. She never called, so after 12:00 I called after her and left a message. I also called and spoke with someone else who said they would get a hold of her. She called me back and we arranged to meet later that day. In person, she was very friendly. But the place she took me to - an absolutely horrendous hovel - dark, dirty, depressing, and damaged. I cannot believe that the same person who showed my friends' apartment to them was actually showing this apartment to anyone. When we got back in the car, I mumbled something like, Maybe my price range is too low. She assured me that it wasn't, that she just had nothing to show me right now, but that I should give her a call when I got back in town. In her defense, I called another - again highly recommended -- broker in Astoria who never called me back, and I even tried a third, who asked me several questions, promised to call me back, and then didn't. How anyone manages to find a place to live in the much-vaunted Astoria, I wouldn't know. It probably isn't through Metropolis Realty. read more

I called Metropolis Reality after coming to Yelp to look for a good broker in Astoria. The broker I worked with was Alex, who I would not personally recommend. I made an appointment, at which Alex did not listen to me very well when he asked what I was looking for. He thought I was looking for a 2 bedroom, even though I said one bedroom, and wrote "one bedroom" on the card that he had me fill out. After seeing two places, we parted and he said he would call me in an hour; that maybe something would have come in. He told me I should stay in the neighborhood. I waited and did not get a call after 2 hours, so I called him and he told me there was nothing to see, but that he would call me Saturday. He did not call me when he said he would, and I did not bother to call him, so that was basically the end of our relationship. Over all he did not seem like he cared whether he got my business or not. I have since used craigslist to find apartments in areas that I'm interested in, and have met brokers who are much more professional, as in, they listen to what you are saying and ask questions about what you want in order to help you find a home. Maybe Alex was just having a bad day. He seemed friendly and helpful, and was dressed very professionally, but he was not much help to me. read more

After living in Williamsburg for 7 years, I decided to move to Astoria for more space and a nicer place. During the search for my new home I met with Angela from Metropolis reality. Angela was great. She was friendly, honest and responded to all our inquries. We just got a good feeling from her, more so than some of the other brokers we met in the area. She made the process very easy for us, and found us an amazing apartment. It seemed like she had a great relationship with the landlord as well. I recommend contacting her if you are looking for a place in Astoria. read more

Through Metropolis we found our place and ultimately, we are happy with it but there were a lot of annoyance, to much sales talk and perhaps some schemes.... This was a tricky and delicate review to write and to rate; my 4 stars rating goes to Romero Papp who is a rare gem among the sea of brokers in NYC. Why? - Romero doesn't talk your ears off, doesn't over embellish the area or the place he shows you. He is a man with fewer words compared to all the other brokers I have met. Maybe it's the language barrier? But hell I like that, because I get turned off very easily when people oversell. -He doesn't over promise you, he is up front and he'll tell you to hope for the best while he finds out what you were asking for. -You can get hold of him very easily (even when the situation is not running smoothly). If he doesn't pick up the phone, he'll definitely get back to you ASAP... guaranteed. - Not flashy, doesn't take you for a fool (or he is too good at hiding it) and always polite. - Romero followed up with us during the move in day and a week after moving in. I can't recommend other agents at Metropolis but Romero is as solid as he can be. read more

This place is as good as it gets when it comes to realty in Queens and especially in the Astoria area. I dealt with Nick who has worked there for 13 years and he is the perfect broker: honest but hopeful and extremely helpful! I first contacted him when I saw an ad on Craigslist and based on the first phone conversation I felt good about the whole thing. I ended up meeting with him the next day and he was super friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the Astoria area: exactly what I was looking for in a broker. He ended up taking me to two different apartments and I fell in love with one of them but since I wasn't with my roommate I asked him if I could come back later with her and he totally encouraged the idea. A few hours later I called him up and told him we were in the area and he was there within 30 minutes to show us the place again. He was so honest with us and drove us around the area, showing us the different potential routes from the train and all the trendy spots and great supermarkets and shops in the area. He went as far to even ask the landlord to bring down the price for us (which didn't happen, but still) and allowed us to move in the weekend before our lease officially began. He also showed us the apartment several times and never once got on our case about it. He also answered each and every question we had about anything and everything--very patient man. I want to say that Nick went above and beyond, but I think the reality is that he is truly fantastic at his job and really loves what he does. Even another broker told me, "Nick is a great guy and you can trust him." I will say that since he is such a busy guy, it can be a little hard to get in touch with him but even if you call him several times, he's always professional and accommodating and will eventually get back to you. You can tell that he really wants to help you find the best apartment for you. He made the experience of finding an apartment in Astoria a great one and I am incredibly grateful for that, especially when there are so many jerks out there. When it comes time for me to move again, I know that I'll be going to him. Thank you, Nick for making my dream of moving out a reality. read more

When I started my apartment search in Astoria I had come across a few shady brokers and heard so many horror stories about people being ripped off so I was afraid to trust anyone. Some of the brokers I had talked to didn't show me what I was asking for (i.e. more money than I told them that I wanted to spend, was a total dump, far from the train etc). After about a month of searching, I made an appointment with Alex from Metropolis. I told him exactly what I wanted and how much I wanted to spend. He was attentive, always called me back, and he showed me my apartment that I am totally in love with. I couldn't be happier. I can't say anything about the other brokers in the agency but Alex was awesome! read more

We had a phenomenal experience with Metropolis Realty. We worked with Alex, who called whenever he had new information, returned my calls within a few hours every time I called him, and was forthcoming with any information he thought would be helpful, and answered all of our questions honestly and well. We had had a terrible time with brokers before we started working with Metropolis, to which we were referred by a friend. After seeing dreadful apartment after dreadful apartment from other brokers and companies, and being told over and over again that our budget was too low for a one-bedroom apartment in Astoria (where we've lived for 2 years), it was so refreshing to work with someone who wanted to actually help us, not just make money. The first apartment Alex showed us was huge, and exactly what we wanted to pay, in a beyond-perfect location. We just moved in yesterday, and could not be happier with our new place--thankfully, since we signed a 2-year lease for it. They're great people, very organized, very professional, and have been in the area for ages and really know their stuff. Highly recommended! read more

Purchasing a home can be a difficult process. But dealing with a real estate agent like Romero Papp, who has experience, professionalism and is always willing to answer your call when you have questions, really makes a difference. I don't even know where to begin with this one, but please save yourselves the stress and don't consider working with them. To call them sneaky, conniving liars is an understatement. I will say this though, Nick talks a talk that will leave you feeling that he is going to do great things for you. Ok, so let's start from the beginning. I was looking for a 3 bedroom apartment by myself because both of my future roommates at the time were living out of town. Nick took me in his disgusting beat up car where he had to open my door from the inside only, and tottered up the street smoking in my face to an apartment that was under renovations at the time. I could tell it was going to be beautiful, it already had so much character and who wouldnt wan't a brand new kitchen and bathroom with the promise that work will be done in a few weeks? He pointed out the 3 nice sized bedrooms and a "half bedroom" which he called our shoe closet. Charming huh? I was hooked on this apartment, where do i sign? Well Nick assured me that the apartment would be done in a few weeks with plenty of time before our move in date. We stayed in touch for a few days, and after I booked and hired movers, I called Nick to see about getting my key, and no response. He ignored my calls for days, so I went in there and the look on his face was priceless. He fed me some BS story but the bottom line was, our apartment was not finished. He told us we could store our stuff in the garage of the house until the apartment would be done, but I was homeless. After 2 weeks of inconveniencing others, I was able to move all of my stuff from the garage into the new apartment myself, after I paid movers to do it the first time. Upon moving in, our new landlord informed us that the shoe closet was in fact the third bedroom, and he was NOT EVER planning on putting in the gorgeous french doors that Nick promised us to make the dining room into a large 3rd bedroom. Nick had a quick fight in Greek with the landlord and then told us HE would pay to have the doors put in. Fine. 5 weeks later he showed up at our door with 2 hideous looking, unpainted, hollow balsa wood slabs in his professional work clothes and proceeded to use our brand new kitchen table and chairs as a work bench, sawing the wood in the middle of our apartment. He half assed aligned the slabs on a track (which fell down approximately 2 weeks later) and said he'd be right back to clean up the piles of saw dust and now- dented furniture strewn about our apartment. Well, needless to say, we never saw or heard from Nick again. Throughout this process he stuck Angela and Ted (the owner) on us because he was too much of a coward to deal with us, so we had the pleasure of working with the entire incompetent, lying, unsympathetic staff at Metropolis. read more

When given the choice, I'd rather not pay a broker's fee for an apartment, especially when I just paid one four months ago to move into an apartment that turned out to be unliveable. However, in a neighborhood like Astoria that's basically run by brokers, there's often not a chance to get a no-fee/by owner situation and a nice apartment with decent rent -- usually there are compromises. I needed to stay in the neighborhood because of the proximity to my job. We went to Metropolis Realty after working with AT LEAST 20 other brokers in the neighborhood. We liked the pictures, no-frills description, and price we saw in a Craigslist ad, and called them to make an appointment. I spoke initially with Angela, who put me in contact with her associate broker, Nick. Nick actually showed up to-the-minute on time to our appointment to view the apartment, and they let us go directly to the location instead of going to the office first, which was a courtesy. After three months, 20 brokers, and at least 20-25 apartments, it was the nicest one we had seen, exactly true to the description and what we had requested. We signed the lease last week. I can't even enumerate all the professional courtesies Nick and his associates showed us throughout the process, but I will say that they really earned the 1 month's broker fee and showed us, by far, the nicest apartments -- we actually had to make a choice between two! They always showed us places in our price range, renovated, and exactly what we had specifically asked for. No pushy broker nonsense, no lies/trickery, and actually some laughs and real customer service. Hopefully I will not be moving again anytime soon, but I would go back to this company in a heartbeat. I highly recommend them. read more

I worked with Angela, I was looking for a place late into the month, so I knew finding a place would be harder. She was very nice in the office, but told me she had no listings that fit my needs. She asked to call her in a few days and she would see if anything was available. I called her 3 days later and told me she had a place, but would call me back in a few minutes. No response. I should start off by saying that I didn't end up moving into an apartment that Alex at Metropolis Realty showed me. This review is a little unique in that sense. My boyfriend and I looked up Metropolis after having gotten two personal recommendations, and reading about Leighann's positive experience on Yelp. Contrary to what other reviewers have mentioned, I found Alex to be a great listener when we described what we were looking for: a spacious, affordable 1 bedroom in a prewar building with some character. He also assured us that we could find it at $200 less per month than our maximum spend. I'll admit that I was a little skeptical when he told us that it was his policy to only show us a small selection of the best fit apartments available. I thought, 'why wouldn't I want to see as many available spaces as possible?' But, true to his word, Alex showed us an impressively curated list of beautiful apartments that matched what we were seeking. Busy New Yorkers will appreciate that they won't have to sift through 20 listings with Alex before finding a great apartment. As fate would have it, we weren't qualified to rent our first choice apartment, although Alex did his best to advocate our case. We got lucky shortly thereafter and found a place that was very similar, and, with a better sense of the deal we were getting, pounced on it right away. If our next move is in Astoria, I will definitely look him up again. read more

This review is for Romero Papp who recently moved from Amorelli Realty to this place. I was moving to Astoria from out of state and had a total of 4 days to find a place! Like most folks I tried to find a place without getting a broker involved but the odds of that happening in NYC are seriously low! After going to/calling up 3 reputable brokers(with great reviews on Yelp) number of times and wasting the first 2 days, I walked in to Romoeros office. And within a day he found me a place! Before finding the reviews on Yelp, we'd made an appointment to meet with Nick and Angela. Then prior to the appointment we were doing research about the area online (we were relocating from Boston to Queens) - and I came across some mixed reviews online about Metropolis. After reading some bad reviews - I considered canceling our appointment because we were on a tight time frame and needed to find something quick, so we didn't have time to deal with bad relaters....but I am so glad we kept our appointment. Nick and Angela were great! As I mentioned, we were relocating from Boston and looking for an apartment that was available immediately. I was worried we were going to see all the units they were trying to unload but we saw 5 apartments - all in our price range that fit what we had mentioned we were looking for - and to be honest I think we would have been happy with 4 out of 5 of them. I thought we were going to have a hard time finding something in one day, not stuck trying to decide which one we liked best -- but a great problem to have; and we ended up with an apartment better than we were expecting. Additionally, while we were looking at apartments they took time in between units to show us the area as well (nearest train, grocery store, laundry mat, etc), which was helpful since we weren't too familiar with the area. After we picked the apartment Angela worked with us to arrange for us to move in on a Sunday - which was fantastic. The only reason I gave 4 stars out of 5 instead of all 5 was because they were a little difficult to communicate with in advance of the appointment. I had no idea what we were going to see (I guess because things turnover so quickly in NY)- which made me nervous because I am more of a planner - but they completely came through! read more

My girlfriend and I found Romero Papp at Metropolis to be extremely helpful with access to some great real estate. We had looked at 3 different apartments in Crown Heights and 4 different apartments in Astoria with different brokers before working with Romero. The first apartment he showed us we took. The kitchen was being renovated and nothing had been installed...but that's how good the apartment was! We knew it was much better then anything we had seen. After the paper work was signed and the deposit was made, Romero continued to stay in touch over the next week or two and make sure we were all set to move in(keys, utilities, moving logistics, etc). We've been in the apartment for a week now and love it. If your thinking of moving, move to Astoria. If you're thinking of moving to Astoria, give Romero a call! read more

I originally wasn't going to call Metropolis Realty because I'm usually really big on reviews & referrals but I found some of their ads online that looked pretty good ( & that kind of made me doubt them even more ). I decided to call since I was really interested in one of the places they had advertised and after seeing 9 other places and having no luck I decided it was worth a try. When I originally called and made an appointment with Angela I made sure that the place I called for was available but on the day of my appointment Nick was the one that took me out and showed me the place. I really don't know what I was expecting after hearing about all the horror NY apartment search stories, while living in one of my own & reading some of the not so nice write ups on Metropolis I probably wasn't expecting much, but about 15 minutes into it Nick made me feel very comfortable. He took me to the place I had called about and it was a nice place but a bit small for my oversized, out of date & out of state furniture. After asking me some questions we left from there. He made some calls and we spent the next hour and half showing me three more apartments. He took the time to show me the area, answered all my questions, told me all about the neighborhood & he even drove the route I would walk to & from the subway which was very important to me since I sometimes get home from work a bit late. After thinking about the places we looked at ( the 15 minutes it took me to call a friend for some additional advice ) I ended up applying for a huge 1bedroom that I fell in love with. Nick called the owner and got the rent down for me to $1,250 from the original $1,300 that the landlord was asking, he gave me a discount on the fee, & I had a lease and keys the next day. I've been living in my new place for 2 months now and I could not be happier. I am sure a lot of it has to do with luck & timing but Nick took the time and gave the effort that none of the other "super agents" I had dealt with even tried to offer and instead made it seem like they where doing me a favor. I saw Nick driving down 30th Ave today with his hands pointing out his car window, with what I am assuming where clients in his car, and he was showing them the area & doing what he does best. I smiled & remembered how helpful he was when I needed to find a place and how lucky they where to be dealing with him. I felt it was necessary for me to write what a great experience I had with Nick and Metropolis Realty. I guess that there are always two sides to a story and I'm glad I gave my self the chance to make my own. I highly recommend him if you are looking for an honest agent who knows the area and really worked hard to find me pretty much everything I wanted in an a place. read more

I used Metropolis Realty twice. The first experience was wonderful. The second experience - terrible. The first time I worked with Nick and Angela, they were both helpful in finding my roommate and I our first apartment in Queens. Phone calls were returned in a timely manner, and they were able to meet with us multiple times due to my roommate's and my opposing work schedules. They found us an amazing place for a great price. We were very happy with this first time around. Almost exactly a year later, I was in a horrible bind after having spent about 3 weeks dealing with Atlantic Management Company (who manage Astoria Park Apartments....more on that in another post). It was about 2 weeks until I had to be out of my original apartment and I was desperate to find a new place with my new roommate. I explained my situation to Angela, who remembered me from last year, and told me that they could definitely help me out and find me a place. Nick immediately took me out to see a few apartments. I was so excited and relieved to work with Metropolis. Unfortunately, after taking 3 days to even email me an application for the apartment I had told him I'd take, he told me that the landlord was going to be picky about credit and income, and he wanted to show me a Plan B. I saw the Plan B place, and turned it into Plan A. I filled out the application and gave it to Angela. And that was the last I heard from Nick and Angela, even after 3 phone calls, several emails and texts. I'm convinced that they didn't want to deal with the extra paperwork involved since my roommate and I (both in the performing arts industry) needed to have a guarantor (whose information I repeatedly told them I had ready and waiting for them). Overall, I was highly disappointed in the service from Metropolis. They probably found someone who didn't need a guarantor and went ahead and gave them the apartment that I wanted. I understand that in this industry, there is always someone who can pay a broker flat out, but at least have the decency to let me know SOMETHING. It's simply poor business ethics to leave a client hanging. read more

Metropolis Realty seems to have a lot of listings but their agents can't be bothered to take the time to show them or return phone calls. I spoke with Angela and Romero, they both told me about all of the apartments they had to show me and told me that they would set up appointments to show them. When they never called me back I called the office multiple times only to be told that they were not in, I left messages but never heard another thing from them. read more

Angela was great and we did rent an apartment from her. Our unit in Astoria is perfect and we even got in before the first of the month, she is close with our landlord and that made the process even more comfortable. Everything on StreetEasy matched, or was surpassed by the quality of the unit at our in-person showings. Angela texts/emails back SO promptly, she was so organized, and was available when I got out of work later than my roommate to do paperwork, etc. She's flexible with payments and the application is SO SIMPLE. read more

well, these are very nice reviews, however, my experience was different... i called angela via her cell number that was offered on a blog--perhaps that was a no-no? she received some nice reviews, so i figured i'd call. she seemed a bit annoyed. i explained my budget and what i was looking for--i'm not a princess, so my only requirement was something that wasn't a dump and takes a cat. so, she SAID she'd look through her listings and call back in a couple of hours. this was over a month ago. well, i moved on and went through other brokers still not finding anything to my liking, and recently decided to call again, this time at the main number. i was received by what sounded like a 12 year old who was perturbed that i interrupted her texting. she took my name and number, asked my budget and what i was looking for, and said someone would call me soon. that was about a week ago. so, sorry angela and metropolis, but you basically suck. perhaps they couldn't be bothered with my low budget--$1250 for a studio, pleeez, that's reasonable for the area. no, i don't make a lot of money to afford my own place for an overinflated rent, however, i'm one of the best tenants and financially sound people any broker will ever come across. as it turns out, i may have found a deal on fluke through an apt. manager. hopefully, it will happen, so i won't have to deal with any broker and their fees. read more

I am happy to report that I just closed the deal of a house this morning after more than 6 months of researching and checking out houses. During this time Romero Papp from the Metropolis has been on top of this throughout. Without his help in every crucial steps of the search and purchase, I won't be able to finalize the deal. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is looking to rent or buy an apartment. Romero doesn't just try to get your business and do the short sale. He takes time to show me the houses, discusses the potentials with me, and provide his own take on the property. Most important of all, after several houses we went to see together, he told me: Mr. Alex, I now understand what you want and what you're looking for (price range, style, location, etc.). And after that he's more selective in trying to meet my needs. That kind of understanding and efficiency really helps a lot. Very soon he found me a good deal, and we made an offer. However, just right afterwards a crisis emerged--the seller got another higher offer, even though we've done the home inspection. Still, the deal may fall through. Fortunately, Romero knows his trade and is strategic enough to help me secure the offer. And that's after numerous phone calls and a lot of devotions to try to persuade the seller to understand our commitment. I cannot express my appreciation enough of his continual presence in the front line. An honest, efficient and experienced broker, Romero is easy to work with and responds to my calls in a timely fashion. Most of all, he tries to understand and meet your need instead of imposing on you something you may not want or cannot afford. He wants to build a good working relationship with you, though I can boldly say that we've built a good personal relationship. He'll be the one I can confidently refer to if any of my good friends is looking for anything in this business. He is trustworthy and puts his reputation on the line. You won't go wrong with him. read more

Where do I begin. I used Metropolis Realty for my first apartment find when I moved to Astoria. Nick was extremely helpful. Me and my roommate loved the first place he showed us and we signed that day. So 2 years later, I need to find a place of my own. I, of course, wanted to give my business to Nick b/c he was great the first time around. I called a month and 1/2 prior to my move out date. Nick informed me I had plenty of time to start looking and to follow up with him closer to the date. No problem. Weeks went by and I called Nick. Many many times of no call backs. I even texted. Nothing. Finally I stopped by the office. He showed my one place that I liked but he said I have time to think about till end of the weekend b/c he is the only one with the key to the place and no one else will show it. 3 days after I called Nick, with no response from him, I texted him and said I"m coming to your office Wednesday to sign the paperwork on that place if no other listings have come up in my budget. He finally responded and said come by. I get there and Nick is not there and when one of the brokers there asked me what listing was I signing for, she informed me the place was gone!!! She calls Nick to find out whats going on. He was unware as well. Lack of communication in this place! I understand its sales, first come first serve. I get it. But dont' tell me I have time on the place and that you won't be showing this place to anyone else. In the mean time, I continue my search with other brokers being that Nick was being unprofessional and not acting like a broker who wanted my business but I still had hope for Nick and that he would come thru for me, especially at how that situation was handled. I really wanted to give him my business. So a week goes by still no call from Nick. I'm constantly harrassing Nick everyday with texts if any new listing. I was basically throwing my business to him and he wasn't evening trying. With so many brokers in Astoria you would think he would be on top of his game. I had one week till my move out date and many many unanswered calls and texts from Nick, I finally found a great place with another Broker. Bottom line, don't waste your time and effort with Metroplis Realty and these brokers. They don't care for their customers. There are plenty of brokers out there that will treat you with the respect and courtesy you deserve. Not Metropolis Realty. read more

First I want to say, it seems as someone is spamming their postings with that one review as different people. I guess a competitor isn't happy with their strong rating. I will quickly say my only experience with Metropolis Realty is Nick and he is fantastic. This is why: First, let's agree that it's hard to pinpoint a good broker in Astoria and the entire renting scenario is difficult as compared to five years ago here. Specifically, good apartments go fast, so you need someone that has access to the good one with a range of prices. I had met with a terrible amount of brokers prior to meeting with Nick and found Metropolis Realty via Google. I found an apartment on their website that I loved, but having played this game so many times before, I figured it was a "once real posting" to get me to call. Well I did because I figured that if they have similar apartment I'd be thrilled. I have to commend Nick, because I'm VERY particular about where I live. So, he showed me a range of apartments, I picked one - hurray. On my move in date the guy whose to put in the new floor discovered bedbugs underneath the old carpet. Disaster initiated. The building had not disclosed this information to either Nick or I. Nick was amazing through the process got us all our money back and covered all of the additional storage and moving expenses. Better than that, he had an apartment just open up and it was perfect. He took us the next morning and we moved in that afternoon. If Nick hadn't been amazing in this process moving twice in 24 hours could have been worse than the hell it already was. When I know a friend needs a broker in Astoria I give his name. I'll admit he is a charmer, but that's a part of the renters game. The nice thing is in his case, it's also genuine. He's a great guy and got me the apartment I'll be in for the next five years. Thanks Nick! I really appreciate it. Best of luck with everything! -Jeff read more

The only agency in all of Astoria worth the money. Seriously. Nick was my realtor and when a building was crap, he'd tell you. Not once did he try any of the usual broker tricks (oooh, this will go quick) or pressure me into an apartment. Backstory: I had been searching for 3 months (seriously) and I had spoken with what seemed to be every broker in Astoria. Metropolis was kind of a "last ditch" effort until I moved to the nether-regions of Brooklyn (think "Kings Highway"). I had seen nothing but overpriced crap in all of Astoria and didn't think Metropolis would be any different. Nick drove us around to the different apartments, let us come to our own decisions, and recommended things in the neighborhood (parks, restaurants, etc). We could have moved into almost any of the apartments he showed us, and I can't say that about ANY other agency. Save yourself the time and go to Metropolis if you're willing to pay the fee. I think my fatal flaw was sticking to brokers on B'Way and 30th because that's where I wanted to live. read more

We were new to the NYC apartment hunting scene and the world of NYC realty. Also unfamiliar with Astoria. Dreading it to say the least. Saw many apartments with at least 5 other realtors. Most just seemingly wanted a sale, and did not spend any time other than to wisk us in an out of an apartment. Some realtors never called us back. Nick took us to over 6 places over two separate weekends. All were places that met our needs/wants and we could have chosen immediately. We ended up with a great, freshly renovated apartment. Nick took extra time no other realtor did. He showed us around Astoria and explained the different main streets to us, nice restaurants, gyms, bakeries etc. He made everyone very comfortable with the choice of area and city itself. This personalization of the experience, made it a great experience. I would definitely use him again!! read more

My roommates and I were three recent college grads looking for our first apartment. We weren't really sure what to do, but then Romero came along. He truly worked with us to make sure that all of our needs were met. Not only did he show us a place in our budget, he worked to lower that cost. He also made sure that everything that needed to be fixed was done so by our move in date. Romero has a way of giving you all the information you need and answering any questions while still giving you enough privacy to explore the space on your own. He is respectful, upfront, and truly wants to find you a place you'll love. We would recommend Romero to anyone! read more

I saw a bunch of different apartments with a bunch of different brokers, all of which had something wrong with them. Whether they were too dirty, bad location, or with the subway tracks right outside the window, none of them were worth a second thought. Romero Papp with Metropolis Realty showed me a great apartment on the very first try, and it's the one I ended up taking. He was communicative and easy to work with, and helped facilitate a smooth rental process. The broker's fee is fair and reasonable as well. Highly recommended if you're looking for a place to live in Astoria. Give them a call! read more

Ugh this place is the worse!! Angela and nick are just bad people. When my roommate and I first started looking for an apartment, Nick was all talk Then, when we found the place we wanted and it wasn't ready in time, Nick stopped answering our calls. Figures right! Finally when moving day came and my roommates and I prepared to move into our THREE bedroom apartment, the landlord told us the third bedroom wasn't actually a bedroom. Nick lied through his teeth! Nick was rude, unprofessional and as sleazy as brokers get. read more

Despite my better judgment, I sent my friends there for apartment hunting. Unfortunately, I will have to concur will the folks out there who had a bad experience. Nick is probably THE most unethical, ruthless, and not to mention, sexist cretin in this already sad industry. Everyone beware, this guy is NOT playing with a full deck of cards, and he likes to cheat his clients out of hard earned money!!! read more

Nothing negative to say about this realty firm. Our broker, Nick, showed us a great apartment and even spent time showing us around the neighborhood. We were from another state and could not have found an apartment as easily as we did with Nick. In fact, the first apartment we found was the one we signed on. Great Place read more

Just rented a apartment from Angela, she was amazing! Spoke to many real estate agents and she was the absolute best one! She made me feel so comfortable right away. We recommend Metropolis Realty to anyone looking to rent an apartment in Astoria. Nick was lovely to work with. He understood us and knew exactly what we wanted. We met Angela very briefly but she seemed very nice as well. One word to describe Nick is Honest, unlike many realtors. read more
