If you're smart you will turn in that rental car the day before and taxi to the Sleep and Fly. It is a family operated B and B only 2 yrs old. It has clean modern décor, balconies, a great included breakfast, and is only 6 rooms. You get personalized service from the owner and his two sons. They will shuttle you to your terminal the next morning, a 5 minute ride. These are the most friendly helpful people you will ever meet. There are 6 or 8 restaurants in walking distance. Beware, your GPS will NOT take you there - ours was off by a mile. The Sleep and Fly is directly across the street from the Best Western Rome Airport. Perfect place for that overnight before flying!

The rooms are quiet and the best plus which isn't even mentioned on their website is the self service laundry room on the second floor. You will need 6 euros, 50 cents, one or two euros coins. They don't make change so come prepared. The breakfast buffet is fine (wish they had hazelnuts or walnuts for the cereal), but I really love the club sandwich (I always order it for lunch), if you arrive later then the fare now isn't as good. They used to have really good pizzas, but have dropped them from the menu. The front desk said their bar could do a Hugo Spritz, but they don't have all the ingredients. Major disappointment! We arrived early but found a clean room which may be because we are Hilton Honors or I am using my AMEX Hilton Honors card. One of my favorite layovers. Looking forward to coming back in two weeks to see if they found some St. Germaine.

A couple of important things: 1) This hotel is completely isolated. It looks close to the airport…read moreon the map but for some reason the road is long and windy and you are in the middle of a field with no where to walk to. It does not feel like Italy at all. 2) The shuttle wait was around 20 minutes, not 15 and we were not aware that the shuttle is actually a public bus used by airport employees and makes at least 5 stops between the hotel and airport. The line at the hotel was also huge and some people did not get on, so plan accordingly. My husband and I stayed here for one night because we wanted to be by the airport for our flight the next morning. When we arrived we waited in a long line at reception and then asked for the front desk to check us in and order a taxi to Ostia Antica, a Roman ruin about 20 minutes away. We wanted to get back to exploring Italy on our last day and not be stuck in the hotel. The woman at the reception was confusing as she said a room was ready and then she said I'm not going to give you that room. She also could not comprehend that we would want a taxi to leave the isolated hotel. It was a very odd experience, but we did end up having our bags held in their storage closest and getting a taxi. The taxi was expensive and I should have looked at uber instead because our uber back was much cheaper. Ostia Antica is a really cool ancient ruin and archeological site and the village is adorable and has a castle. I highly recommend checking it out if you get to this hotel during the day. When we got back to the hotel in the evening we got the room keys. It's an old hotel with odd, sometimes scary decor (clown pictures) and they forgot to put shampoo in our shower. They sent us up shampoo and we just needed a place to stay before our flight so it was fine, but the cost was too high in my opinion and I think people should strongly consider their options before choosing this hotel.

I inadvertently forgot to return the keys to our previous hotel. The receptionist at Hotel del Mare graciously agreed to take it to the post office for us, and we reimbursed her for the postage plus some extra for her trouble. We had tried to book the hotel's shuttle bus to pick us up at FCO after taking the train there. I had sent an email to them the night before we were to arrive, but I didn't hear anything back by the time we were leaving Florence the following morning. Before we left we got the very kind staff at our hotel in Florence to try to help arrange it, but between the language barrier and/or Hotel del Mare having rules about only picking up people flying into FCO, it didn't work out. We just ended up getting a cab (25 euro). The location of the hotel has an unbeatable view of the beach, which is just across the street. The neighbourhood feels like it would be pretty rundown if it didn't have airport and beach goers supporting it, but it certainly didn't seem dangerous. The beach itself is fairly long, and is made up of a series of man made coves and breakwaters. In typical Italian style, it was a bit dirty with way too much litter, at least the public sections we were on. Hotel del Mare isn't huge, with just two storeys, but it has a nice rooftop patio with about a dozen cabana chairs and even a small hot tub. Our room was a decent size and the bed was the Italian "queen-sized", aka. two twins pushed together. However, the AC was all but non-functioning. After a couple hours it hadn't cooled down the room so we talked to the front desk staff about it. After they investigated, they couldn't get anyone to come by at that point in the evening, and we were SOL. There were no rooms that we could move to, but we were able to get an old fan from the front desk that combined with an open window to keep the room survivable, if not very comfortable. The front desk staff was really cool about letting us print off our boarding passes. They didn't have a business centre, but just let me use their computer for a few minutes. Breakfast was served just off the main entryway and was what by then had become a familiar sight: cornetti, fruit, yogurt, some sweets, and cheese, cold cuts and bread for making sandwiches. They did have a panini press for your own use, which was kind of neat. We scheduled our shuttle ride the night before (18 euro, paid in cash to the driver), and it was a fairly quick drive there. It certainly wasn't the highlight of our trip, but the nice, helpful staff kept it from being a disaster, so that's worth something.

The rooms were well appointed. Bonus points for the complimentary beers in the mini fridge. The beach in this area is fine but not phenomenal... dark water and sand. The breakfast in the morning was sweetly prepared and presented. We'd consider using this option again if flying out of FCO to avoid waking up at the crack of dawn in Rome.

I told her I paid through booking with credit card and showed her confirmation that I paid. She stared it wasn't paid. She then told me I should look for another place to stay since it seemed I didn't want to stay there. I checked my c.c. statement and the room charge was not charged. Since she was so unkind and argumentative and I had not beem charged, I left and went elsewhere. The next day I get a notice from booking stating I was a No show , the manager said I never checked in. Total baloney scammers. I will never use booking. com again and recommend you stay elsewhere when you have a layover at Fumincino Airport.by the, way it is now called Giorgia .I will be disputing this charge.

We stayed at the Aquila Di Mare Hotel near the Rome airport on a Friday night. Upon arrival and…read moreluggage retrieval, we called and their car was there in less than 15 minutes. Sergio, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located about 8 km from the airport in Fiumicino. At the hotel we were greeted by his wife Loirdana (Lori). She got us checked in and showed us the room. It was very nice and clean with a queen bed, flat screen TV, adequate closet space and a very nice bathroom with modern shower and all the amenities including a bidet. There is, however, no room telephone. We spent a comfortable night. The next morning Sergio met us promptly at 7:30 and drove us back to the airport to pick up our rental car. The cost to pick us up and return us to the airport was 20 Euros. The price for the room, including breakfast was 69 Euros including tax. The Aquila Di Mare is located well off the beaten path in a quiet neighborhood, but it is near the airport and you do hear the aircraft taking off. Flights did stop going over the area a bit after 11 (at least we didn't hear any after that). The ocean is just a few blocks away and there are local restaurants nearby. Aquila Di Mare is a very nice place and we enjoyed our stay. Sergio and Lori went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
