We were staying very close so got to see both in one day. Check the tables online for best viewing times! You'd think it's at the midpoint between high and low tide, but it doesn't work out that way. ROAD ACCESS You are on all paved roads driving here. The parking is gravel. PARKING Several spots left 1.5 hours before the whirlpools on a Saturday in August, then 1 hour before the wave the same day. COSTS None. AMENITIES One bathroom at trailhead, one at the fork between Roland and North Points, both non flushing. No water. DIFFICULTY The first 5-10 minutes is a gravel road with access to private homes, as well as the Skookumchuck Bakery. Once the actual trail starts, it's a dirt trail that's fairly wide (2-3 people can walk abreast), but there are exposed roots and rocks. We saw a group with a stroller and they often had to carry it - not worth it! AMOUNT OF TIME/WHERE TO GO FOR BEST VIEWS Go to Roland point for the Whirlpools (ebbing tide). It took us 1 hour 20 minutes with a very tired 4 and 6 year old who were slow and complained a lot. It took us 40 minutes when it was 2 adults walking quickly. Go to North Point for the Big Wave (rising tide). It took us 50 minutes when it was 2 adults walking quickly. SHADE The route is 90% shaded. If you're going to the big waves in the evening, North Point is all in the shade. CELL SERVICE We had cell service throughout the hike (T-mobile).

Provide a company could provide the essentials, the experience is already going to be great. However, Pedals and Paddles don't simple rest on the fact that they're situated at a great spot. They provided excellent service by quickly replying to my phone call, providing flexibility, offering things at no extra cost such as crocks (so as not to get your own footwear wet), among other things. Lots of equipment available and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had limited time in our day to return to the ferry and they even charged a half hour rate rather than a full hour which I don't think many others would do.

Let's me know they are watching and know what divers need when they teach to the pro level of divers. Up visiting for the weekend and we're looking forward to some BC diving. We were looked after from the moment we booked till we stepped off the boat. They had steel 100's which is what I have and that made diving with their tanks seem less with what I was use to. Even better they have fills available On the boat, so you only need to pop off your 1st stage and let the fill begin!! We enjoyed a dive in the Annapolis! What a great dive sight. These cabins are nice. The bed is so comfortable and they even have heated flooring in the bathroom. The cabin we booked came with so many things that you would never get from a hotel (I.e. toaster, cutlery, plates, fridge, etc.) and for pretty much the same price. Honestly, if I had plans to goo hiking in the area or boarding at Whistler, I'd make this my god to accommodation. It's also a 10min drive from Alice Lake. One thing to note, and by no means is this a complaint, but bare in mind that not all of the cabins have a decent river view, but accessing the Cheakamus is only a couple minutes away. You can definitely hear it though and it's actually very relaxing to fall asleep to. Info: - The staff are very friendly - Fergies cafe is located here, which is a huge plus. - The parking spot is conveniently located right in front of your front door, which is very helpful if your unloading a bunch of bags and equipment. - Check out is a breeze. You just drop the key off at a box in front of the office.

The lodge was amazing! We used it for bbq and karaoke (that we brought ourselves)! Fergie's Catering for our wedding was fine dining! The river was beautiful, and made everyone want to explore! The couple's cabin was super cute and cozy! It was difficult to leave as we had the most perfect wedding! Having our families stay in the cabin made the wedding last all night! I've been here in the afternoon on a weekday in July and midday in a weekday in August. Both times we were lucky and one spot was open. Generally there's turnover since it's a short hike and you can get a spot. AMENITIES There is a bathroom at the trailhead, no water. There are tons of educational signage about the wildlife and plants in the area. DIFFICULTY & TIME Short hike, very little elevation change. You can get to the actual Smuggler Cove in about 30-40 minutes with a 4 and a 6 year old in tow (this is right before the loop starts). I've done the entire full lollipop loop in exactly one hour with only adults. SHADE The hike is 95% shaded. RECEPTION I had 5G reception for most of the hike (T-mobile). CROWDS It was busy but not too crowded both times I went. It was more empty when I went in the afternoon (July 2023). There were many more swimmers during my midday visit in August 2024, but still easy to get your own little private small cove to swim in. SWIMMING In August, we went swimming in the cove. It's not tropical, but it's not nearly as cold as other parts of the ocean. Lots of people were swimming, and a lot of people brought inflatable stand up paddleboards or kayaks.

This is a beautiful and easy 8k hike through the woods and along the water to the narrows…read more Tide pools reveal an abundance of sea life including an astounding PURPLE starfish! There's plenty of room to picnic on the rocks and watch the tide rush past. We saw a bear on the far shore and enjoyed it from our safe distance. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water along and especially don't forget your camera! Happy hiking :-)
