This little store has fulfilled a local need for decades; I'm guessing they've been here since the neighborhood was founded in the mid-1920's. For the history-buff, that would be reason enough for a quick peak! But they also offer some lovely traditional Austrian food items. There's the Brimsen made from raw sheep's milk -- delicious! There's a tasty Liptauer which I'm pretty sure (I'll ask next time I'm there again) is made in the traditional manner with Brimsen and paprika. They have open salt pickles and vinegar pickles that you can buy individually just like at the market. And their cakes, "Golatschen" (danishes) and other baked goods are simply divine. Their selection of whole grain breads is also wonderful. You can really get some high quality breads you wouldn't even find in an ordinary bakery. They also have fresh produce and some grocery shelf basics. The prices are definitely higher than at regular supermarkets or bakeries. You're paying for the location and convenience. It's worth a trip if you want to experience an old-fashioned Austrian Greißlerei. And the location is great if you're headed for one of the nearby hikes and need some "Reiseproviant" (provisions). The bakery and deli items are of a quality that makes the extra expense a worthwhile treat.

The place is more of a deli style market. The healthy options are not easy to find (aside from straight fruits and veggies). For example - Greek yogurt was in a separate fridge to the side... And it isn't the good high protein version. Everything else is breads, viennoiseries, baked goods, fatty meats and cold cuts, chocolate, cookies etc. It's a nice and decent place to get your friends chocolate of you come from abroad. It will cost you over half less than getting the exact same items at the airport.

Like us, if you aren't from the area, you would be surprised that this was a grocery store. Signage is limited and you need to go into a building that looks like it could be an office building. Once in, the store is straight ahead in front of you. The selection here is as good as any grocery store back home. We stayed at a hotel with a kitchenette, so we picked up some meats and currywurst, along with our favorite candies and snacks, beer and coke. They have a good selection of many foods, whether it's yogurt, dairy, frozen. Their produce section is good. They seem to have an unusually large selection of oranges. They sell a large package of spinach, much larger than I've seen at other stores. Their beer & alcohol section seems larger than other supermarkets nearby.

Another item I got there and am probably the most happy with is my Austrian Sim card and phone number. The pre paid cards they offer from HOT come at a good price and credit balance can be purchased both online and via Internet banking. Usually the staff is helpful and super quick as well. Hofer's Achilles heel is the variety of groceries which could be better especially at this particular one which is quite small and I couldn't find basic stuff like strawberries and bananas. Some items were only available in large packages so a stopover at another store to find some leftover things from the shopping list was a must in my case. Another thing is that you can only get a trolley for a 1 Euro coin deposit which personally I'd rather skip but ofcourse it depends on who you ask.
