Like most people, we have driven past Meze many times without even noticing it. We were encouraged to go by the excellent reviews. We are so glad we went. Small but very friendly. Seems to be room for about 18 covers. This is the first time we have sampled Turkish Meze since visiting Turkey many years ago. We started with the Sucuk Izgara (Grilled Turkish sausage) & Sigara Boregi (Fried pastry cigars filled with feta cheese). Delicious. For main we tried the Chicken Supreme & Iskender (Mixed Kebab). Again, delicious & full of flavour. You can definitely tell that everything is fresh & homemade. For 2 starters, 2 mains 2 beers & 2 glasses of white wine the bill came to just over £40. Exceptional value. This is one restaurant we will definitely be adding to our regular circuit. read more

We went here for a celebration dinner. I have been told that Meze is good, and have read the reviews on QYPE. They were not wrong. A great selection of food. We had a sharer to start with, a big bottle of lovely red wine and a big main as well and it only came to £50 for two people. Love this place and will be back. read more

Went for first time last night following our intrigue over Meze (we live near it and often walk past) and following the other reviews recommending it. We were extremely impressed! The owners are friendly, accommodating and make you feel welcome. We had the meze to start, a tasty range of meat and vegetarian dishes (including the delicious cigarette pies!!) and followed it with a main course each. Well-cooked and served with obvious love for the food. We were unable to have turkish wine, as they have trouble getting their hands on it, but there was plenty of choice and we will endeavour to try turkish wine when we return! The restaurant is small and has a homely feel, which we both like; we can see why it has it's regular customers. We really recommend the place if you are after a non-pretentious meal made with care and which is excellent value for money. We intend to return! read more

Meze is a modestly sized restaurant which serves a wide range of Turkish dishes, all cooked to order and quite superb. The house speciality is not to be missed: the meze is outstanding, and never seems to stop arriving! There's always a good choice of house wines available. Meze is a quaint Turkish restaurant what is tiny in size and looks more like a small cafe. It is run by a charming husband and wife team who previously part owned another Turkish restaurant in town what has since closed (Istanbul). They were bought out of Istanbul by the other part owners because of differences on how the restaurant should run but they were not successful after all. Meze is run very low key with its dimmed lights and they have succeeded in making a lovely calming atmosphere in this small café / restaurant All meals are prepared on the premises and everything is done from fresh. I know many including myself had bad experiences from the Istanbul restaurant but the problems only started when this husband and wife team had left but this little place is being run by folks who care about the quality they offer and seem to be doing a pretty good job. Parking can be a bit tricky but Borough road is probably your best bet. This is the only Turkish in town but don't expect a big restaurant - think cafe size instead. read more

Lovely tiny restaurant near the railway station don't let the area outside put you off! Very friendly and attentive service but can be slow if they are busy or are missing ingredients! Very good, freshly cooked, largely Turkish based menu. Don't bank on ordering Turkish wine with your meal though it's very popular and they run out quickly :-) I agree with the previous reviewer the cigarette pies are amazing! Great for an evening with friends. update 30 November 2011. We're still regular's at Meze, it's definately my favourite restaurant in Darlington. I'd love to know though why it doesn't always appear in the Qype search and other restaurants which are nothing like as good appear. I do hope Qype aren't super-boosting the ratings of those who pay for placement. read more

This is probably my favourite restaurant in Darlington at the moment! Despite it's position in a less salubrious area of Darlington inside it is lovely, there are only about 6/7 tables so service is very personal and good. The owners are very friendly and bend over backwards to accommodate. My favourite dish is the moussaka for main course and the cigarette pies to start although we haven't had anything that wasn't lovely. The food is very reasonably priced and if you have a darlington dining card there is also a discount. read more

The other reviews said it really well and we even quoted them as we made our own conclusions about this place.. I went with a group of seven, filling half the restaurant. We were well fed and the food is indeed delicious. The chef who was cooking all by himself for us threw in a couple extra dishes because he wanted to make sure we all got a taste. Looking for somewhere a little different, we found this lovely little restaurant on the internet, by chance. The food was lovely, well cooked and flavoursome and the starters particularly good value. An intimate little restaurant, with room for about 24, I think, we will certainly return. Near the Civic Theatre, parking was quite easy and close by. read more
