This place was decent. Food came out quickly and correctly. The restaurant is aging and ambiance is so-so. Staff seemed a little short on people and there was no music or tv playing. It's also a ghastly yellow on the inside and out. Menu wasn't varied, but it's small town Mexican food, so it's to be expected. Table side salsa and chips were fine. The salsa is mostly tomato and not spicy at all. You get charged $1.75 if you eat another basket of chips, per the menu. My friend had modelo and Dos eqquis on tap (beers). And I had a nice margarita, made fresh. My friend tried a tamale, which was good. Came with pulled pork inside and cheese and mole sauce on top. His Mexican taco were neat, they're corn tortillas, steak and chorizo, rice and beans, and the cilantro and onions on side to add as you like. I had the pollo loco, which is chicken breast, grilled onions, guacamole salad, and rice with side of tortillas. All our food was tasty. The check is handwritten with no amounts on it. You take it up front to pay. If it's under $10 you must pay cash. When they run your card they ask for the tip to put in the machine then. We left cash for tip. Californian here from San Diego County and latina who cooks 95% of my time all from scratch to include fresh tortilla; flour and corn. My family and I are here visiting my husband grandparents and with hesitation I gave another east coast "Mexican place" a try. First and foremost: Burritos as the majority of us know is not indigenous to Mexico, same with nachos, but I will comment on the new "california burrito" the restaurant has put on their menu. Being from California- I know what is standard in a California burrito and this is by far NOT a CA burrito. One: Where are the fries? A wrapped California burrito always comes with fries. Second: there is never an option of chicken or steak; California burrito always are made with carne asade (steak). Since my son's burrito was not tucked in the sides like normal - he deconstructed his burrito and found mushrooms. Why were there mushrooms? Was this as a disguise to offset the lack of steak? I don't know but as a Californian this was by no means a California burrito and should be revised to correct. A true California burrito is made with the following: Carne asada (steak), guacamole, Pico de Gallo, shredded Oaxaca cheese (sub monterrey if can't be found), French fries (the key ingredient that distinguishes a true Ca burrito), Sour cream is optional to add inside, all wrapped tightly in a flour tortilla. And should an Arizona burrito make it on the menu, in the future, note that that is made with Carne asade, season seared potatoes (not fries), cheese, sour cream, Pico de Gallo and guacamole. Next: why is nacho cheese on some listed other burritos? Is this a North Carolina thing? Latinos do not put nacho cheese on top of their burritos let alone even let's say enchiladas. We top things with salsa and some cotija or queso fresco, which I never seen as standard. The menu is far to long, way too many food items and quite overwhelming to go through. Reminded me of cheesecake factory and their booklet of food options. Lastly, I had the fire burrito. I like spicy food and this gave off the perfect high heat. I opted for shredded chicken because well eating a ground beef burrito is honestly weird same would be said if it were in an enchilada where shredded beef is used - no ground beef. Spent many of my summers visiting my grandmother in Mexico to understand. Anywho, we had a very nice waiter who was attentive and I think quickly realized only I spoke Spanish fluently. read more

Totally changing my initial review. The quality of food and service here have disintegrated over the years. Tonight it took 42 minutes to receive my food: a veggie chimichanga. The menu said "roasted vegetables". I asked the server what was in the chimichanga and he said "zucchini's and peppers". What came was 20% zucchini/peppers and 80% potatoes. When I told the server that this was not what was in descriptions (menu and server), he got the manager. Please note: I have been coming here for years and have posted 5 star reviews during previous visits. The manager told me repeatedly that I was the first person who ever complained about the lack of vegetables in the veggie chimichanga. He didn't care that what the server AND menu said did not match the actual meal. When I told him nicely that I wanted to send it back as it was not what both the menu/server described, he argued with me to eat it anyway. Huh??? I have never had such an aggressive confrontation at a restaurant; and by a manager that has known me for 9 years! I don't know what is going on at Mi Casa. It used to be my favorite restaurant in Franklin. I can forgive a messed up meal, but I can't forgive being berated my the manager. How on earth does one rate a place like this???? Do we rate for patrons who cant take ANY HEAT AT ALL , or do rate it for authenticity? Let me say the locals here who go seem to love it. They bring Grandma and the kids and they chow down on food which has ZERO heat and ZERO chili. There were quite a few of these folks there. So they seem happy but this is hardly Mexican! I ordered a dish with a chili relleno. I didnt see it. So I asked where is it??? They pointed to small dish with some plain ground beef and melted cheese. No chili pepper AT ALL. I have never seen anything so low! This is no way a chili relleno. The food looks fairly good from a distance but you have to be a total bland food eater to be happy with the bland food served here. Most of the help here is Mexican along with owner I believe. So when I went up to pay the guy in this pay box I asked him if real Mexican people came in to eat here what would you serve them???? He said he would serve them the very same stuff! I said NO WAY! He said yes as we dont have anything hot or spicy in the kitchen. Since I only saw people who dig spiceless food I guess he is right. I think this is all wrong and one star is deserved if your looking for real Mexican. We usually share an entree for lunch, so instead of ordering off the lunch menu, which is sized down from the regular entree size, we ordered the dinner portion of steak, shrimp, and chicken fajitas to share. Of course, they bring you complementary chips and salsa too. It was a lot of food, and I'm not sure how any one can eat this whole platter with 3 tortillas, but we had to ask for 3 more, which, btw, cost extra. I deducted one star, because although the platter was plentiful and fresh, it could have used more seasoning that adding hot sauce doesn't fix. read more

Pretty decent Mexican food. The Steak Fundido was really bad. I wish I had a picture of the first one the brought out... it was in a small boat-like bowl (like one you would put taco toppings in) and it consisted of steak strips with watery queso dip. I had to send it back, it was basically meat strip n queso dip soup. The manager came and explained that is how they do it. I explained that's not how I get them in FL. It usually consist of a blend of Real cheeses (Monterey Jack, Mexican cheeses, etc). So the manager offered a new one with the correct bowl size (as pictured on the menu) and with spinach,mushrooms and some cheese to "thicken" it up not steak (not sure why but that was his offer). It was decent, after eat too later of cheese, the bottom was queso soup. Fajita was pretty good! I liked it a lot. The cheese was of cheap quality but everything else was good including the salsa. This place is outstanding it's very Charming the lot of Old World charm of Mexico. Has lots of relics on the wall that are interesting to look at as you dine. Food is all freshly prepared and brought to your table. We tried the fajitas we had the salsa and chips in cheese dip before meal and Company the fajitas was delicious fresh rice guacamole chopped tomatoes scallions sour cream. Jose and Miquel where are waiters they were handsome and attentive during our dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for authentic Mexican cuisine next time I'm in the area visiting my friend in Franklin I will definitely dine here again. The margarita were the bomb. This is the worst food I've had in a long time. Party of five, 5 different entrees, and each one was left on the plate. Service was mediocre and the management was rude and kind of aggressive about any concerns. Another reviewer called this food slop and I've gotta agree. Everything was thrown onto a plate and i couldn't tell what was what. Just a bunch of mush. I was with a group that will eat just about anything. We had to ask for the check, which took way to long to be dropped off. The bill wasn't split like we asked. We weren't told we needed to check out up front so we were sitting there waiting to leave. When we did figure it out ourselves, we had to wait even longer because they kept taking to-go orders before letting us check out, with a line of other people forming behind us. The man who checked us out seemed bothered to split the check, he wanted to do it 3 ways even, rather than split it by what we ordered, a meal and a drink each. I'm not sure if this place is typical for a Mexican restaurant in west NC, but it was rubbish. The margarita had no alcohol in it, seriously, none. I even ordered it with a shot of grand marnier, which I was not surprised to see did not make it into the drink, as when I ordered it the waiter responded with that look that says, "I don't speak English, but you definitely said 'margarita.'" Don't get me wrong. I don't speak Spanish, and I don't expect waiters in a Mexican place to speak English. I just like alcohol in my margaritas, so a little house tequila would've been nice to cut the green Gatorade-on-ice that showed up. The waiter was of the kind who throws your food onto your table as he's running away, ignoring the fact that your drinks are empty while pretending not to hear your request for a second plate for your wife or the side of jalapeños that you ordered, and I can only assume, walks into the kitchen, out the back door, gets in his car and drives home. My wife and I arrived at this restaurant at 3pm on a weekday. There were maybe 2 other tables sat in the whole place. We ordered the steak, chicken, and shrimp combo fajitas. It was edible. It was kind of a bummer, because I was just looking to sit and relax somewhere for a bit, have a few drinks, and eat some fajitas. Instead, I had to eat over cooked shrimp and bland chicken and steak in store-bought tortillas without jalapeños, using my napkin as a plate as I stared at my empty glass and wandered what I had done to offend the waiter or where he had gone. I'd pass on this place if I was you. That is unless you're a local and all you know of Mexican food is non-alcoholic margaritas, bland food, and rude, apathetic waiters and you feel like contributing to a local business. One word - FANTÁSTICO!!! Hubs and I were famished following a day of gem hunting, and Mi Casa came highly recommended to us by several locals. We ordered take out - two simple things - and he went to pick it up. WELL - he returned to the hotel with two FULL BAGS of dinner! Absolutely delicious, steamy-hot, perfectly fresh, beautiful pico and guacamole, and enough food for a family of four. We LITERALLY went to the office and asked if we could bring the hotel manager dinner, as we had more than enough to share - several times over - and it was ALL outstanding! We have a second home outside Franklin and have eaten at Mi Casa several times. I don't rate a restaurant based on the first visit. Ever. Today we decided to eat lunch there. It was delicious! I had a simple ground beef taco, beef burrito and Mexican rice. The taco and burrito were prepared perfectly and had no grease! None! Not even a little. And were delicious.
