Bright little deli with friendly service. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. They have a fill your own water station with cups and ice. We stopped for lunch while vacationing near Waynesville. I was bummed they were out of the lunch special (the brisket tacos), so I opted for the bbq chicken quesadilla with a side of slaw. My husband got the Matt's Special with potato salad. His sandwich was good, but could've used a bit more meat, but seemed right for the price. My quesadilla came out hot and flavorful and was perfectly filling. Super bummed about the slaw though - it was really lacking. Needs vinegar and salt (in my opinion). It tasted like shredded cabbage mixed with a little bit of mayo and cilantro and that's it. We both got a can of the June Shine hard kombucha. Tasted like kombucha and was a cool color. I also got a lemon bar and that was good. The crust was thick and the bar was a decent size, and not overly sweet or too sour. The perfect lemon bar! Popped in after the gym to try Kanini's for my first time and had the chicken salad sandwich. The people working for friendly and quick and it was nice to have food that at least seemed like a healthier option than a lot of other places in town. There's countertop seats and regular tables as well, and the large windows in front of the counter tops are good for people watching while eating. The chicken salad sandwich tasted super fresh, and the greek orzo rice as a side was perfect. My girlfriend got the BLT and it was delicious too. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Kanini's is yet another restaurant we have been meaning to eat at. We finally did on a Tuesday afternoon. The place was busy, but we were able to place our order quickly. The cashier was very friendly and patient (we hadn't eaten there before, so we needed time to figure out what we wanted. We ordered the Cataloochee Quesadilla with Mac n cheese, and the Tortilla Burger with fries. Both our orders were outstanding. Very flavorful and fresh. They actually asked how I wanted my burger cooked (which is unusual). My burger was cooked "medium" and came out exactly as such. Perfect! The restaurant is much bigger inside than I had thought it was. Plenty of available seating. Everyone that worked there was very nice. The portion sizes were huge! So I ended up getting two meals out of it. Funny thing about restaurants in Waynesville. They all charge around $15 per meal for lunch. Still, there are choices I. a Waynesville where you can grab a reasonably priced lunch. Kanini's is not one of them. No matter, we still enjoyed a fantastic meal. read more

Still the same great Diego pork tacos that are sweet and savory as well as great chips and salsa. However this time the chocolate chip cookies weren't quiet as fresh, they were hard and crunchy and nowhere near as great as they were last time. It's a small deli locally owned providing meals onsite, to go, or prepared & frozen to take home....plus they bake some dessert items. We saw that cream of mushroom soup was a special (and it was a bit nippy yesterday) so we ordered 2 cups of the EXCELLENT soup and split a Cobb salad. The salad was what we expected...a Cobb salad good but maybe I should have ordered grilled chicken on it to spice it up a bit. Sorry to have to do this.....first place I wanted to eat at post-covid lockdown...ordered chicken waffle...after a LONG wait (my dinner companion had finished his meal) and assurances mine was coming soon, I was served a chicken salad sandwich. Asked where the chicken waffle was and was told they had run out of waffle mix. The young lady at the front who handled this whole debacle had no business working anywhere near a customer. Rude and dull. Finally got a refund and went down the street for a pizza. Flash forward two years; finally ventured back for my chicken waffle (to-go this time). Ordered, waited, not busy at all, bought a brownie, got order, paid, went to car, thought I'd better have a look to make sure I got what I ordered....it was a chicken waffle alright but the two extremely small pieces of chicken were burnt! Took it back in....waited another 15...staff not friendly at all...took the meal...looked inside, looked a little better...got home....they had turned the burnt side to the bottom!!! Never again! I used to take everyone who visited here to Kanini's for lunch...great concept....food was good, but it is run by amateurs who make the experience crappy. I had the Blue Ridge Cobb Salad. Salad is good not great maybe due to the chicken wasn't very seasoned and also cut up into small pieces. The pimento cheese dressing was a miss for me so if I were to get the salad again I would get blue cheese or balsamic dressing. Wife had a Cuban sandwich and she tore it up. Her only minor complaint was it's not on Cuban bread but ciabatta, which she knew going in. Service is counter ordering and food is brought to you. They have some craft beer and wine. Look no further! We were looking for a nice lunch stop on our roadtrip and found Kanani's on yelp! So glad we tried it! Fantastic options, great value and a kids menu (which we always look for). The service was perfect, the food was fresh and tasty, and the bathrooms were super clean. I don't say this lightly but I do believe the Snickerdoodle cookie was the best cookie I've ever eaten. Recently discovered Kanini's in a section of Waynesville that we don't go to that often. The two times we've ordered food have been outstanding. Online ordering is so great during COVID I don't know why more restaurants offer it. We've had the Cobb salad, southwestern bowl, quesadilla and the Folkmoot (aka Greek salad). The Folkmoot was my favorite so far. The hummus is awesome! Also tried the crispy Brussels (great), pimento cheese (great) and the chipotle-lime slaw (also great). That is not conducive to appetite. -.25 of a star for the worst macaroni and cheese I have ever had. Totally bland, with a hint of clove. The clove thing shocked me. I found out that adding clove to mac and cheese actually exists. Save that for private family functions. -.25 of a star for the "get out, it's closing time" vibe from above chick. Everything else was exceptional. The prices are high and the hours are low (they close at three p.m.) Self-important attorneys will not react to an "excuse me" because their food is more important than politeness. This is a cute little stand alone lunch place off the beaten path in Waynesville. They have recently made some welcome changes to their space, adding stools in front of the plate glass window for more seating. Kanini's was recommended by a friend who lived many years in Waynesville, so she knew all the restaurants there. What a nice find. You order, pay and then grab any seat available, a system becoming more popular all the time. We ordered a Cobb salad and a chicken salad sandwich. Both were very very good.
