The neighborhood and the restaurant itself are run down, but OH. MY. LAWD the food is sooooo good. When I called to order take out, my hope was to have five things in my order. But, the menu I was looking at online wasn't accurate, so I was only able to order two dishes. Even so, I am not mad about it. First, when we went in to get our order, the lady helping us was the same lady who took our phone order. She somehow remembered us and apologized for the wrong menu being on Google. Pro tip: their most up-to-date menu is on Facebook. I then spent a full 7 minutes salivating during the car ride home because the food smelled so amazing. I ordered the medium combination with cod, yellow rice, and beans. The cod had a slight fishyness to it which married well with the rice and beans. The fish was cooked a little on the drier side which works well with the entire meal, most especially the very saucy beans. I would absolutely get this again. The medium pepper steak combination was delish and I could really taste the adobo flavor. The texture was perfectly well-done. The medium size combination dishes are YUGE and will probably provide us with two meals. I've had authentic Cuban/Puerto Rican food in NYC, LA, and Chicago and am beyond thrilled that Syracuse also has a place for me to get my fix. read more

This was the worse food I've ever had in my life. Not only dd I pay close to 30$ for the food, they're selection was slim, with bins with nothing in them, with four hours left of service. They're meat was super rough and hard to eat as it was overcooked, and they gave one scoop of each rice, beans, and the meat. Even they're yuca was dry and had white all over it, and empanadas were half filled. I threw up after eating the beef stew., and never will I ever go there again. At least at don Juan's you get huge portions and the food is cooked perfectly and fall apart to the touch. This establishment needs to be shut down read more

I can honestly say I've never been disappointed & this is probably the closest to home Spanish food I've ever had & you'll ever get here.. The food is amazing. The service is great & what they're doing en la Cocina. Trust me. It can get busy, but it's worth the wait. Most time I've probably waited is like 10-15 min. I decided to eat at this restaurant because of all of the reviews that I read. I must say, I was very disappointed. I ordered the steak with onions, white rice, beans, and sweet plantains. The steak tasted sour like it was spoiled . The beans were tasteless and I just did not care for the sweet plantains. I took half of my meal to work for dinner and the other half I saved for the next days meal. The half that I took for dinner I could not finish because the sour taste was too strong. The next day, I looked at the other half that I saved in my refrigerator and the meat was grey and green tint to it. The meat tasted like it was spoiled and like vinegar was poured on it to cover up the rotten flavor. I did call to inform the restaurant about the food. I must say that they were very apologetic and offered to give me something else in return but I declined. Needless to say I am not willing to take another chance on the food there. I understand that we all have off days but cooking spoiled meat is unacceptable. read more

The tacos are must have, although the quality isn't consistent I think they're still generally made the best. Sometimes it can be busy around lunch time, well worth the wait for a hearty meal, I like my beef stew yellow rice and bean combo large can almost fill me up that's when the 2 orders of tacos help. read more

The food is AMAZING here. I eat authentic Spanish food in NYC and this place is real authentic. I got the "Cuban Rice" which they call Moro negro in Dominican Republic. It was off the hook. I also got beans (amazing), pork chops, pulled pork, tostones (soooo good), and the Tamarindo drink . It's in the middle of the hood and it's not fancy but the food is so damn good. Just try it. Tasty, no nonsense comfort food from Latin America. Decor is sparse, seating and parking limited. You order and pick up your food at the counter. Would recommend take out rather than eating in, especially if you have little kids. Combination platters are generously sized. We filled up on the medium sized orders. At first glance, Mi Casita doesn't look like a full fledged restaurant but as soon as you walk in you eat and are treated as if you were family. While I was studying at SU, Mi Casita made me feel at home every time I was craving pupusas, empanadas, arroz con gandules or anything else. Not to mention the variety of fresh juices they make everyday, you'll never leave Mi Casita hungry. Haven't been able to go back since I graduated but really love this place. read more

There food is really delicious but I give them 2 stars because they take a terribly long time for food that is not already in the warmer. To order 6 pupusas it takes at least an hour. I tried to call to place an order to avoid waiting and she put me on hold for 20 minutes so I hung up the phone. Since the person taking orders obviously forgot about me the line is still busy. The best! But the LINE is LONG!!! Loved the empanadas, the yellow rice and pork were cooked to perfection. The place is extremely busy so keep that in mind and realize there is a line for a reason...the food is well worth it. If you are in that much of a hurry go to a fast food chain and if you want to pre-order something to go then call and order when they open to have it ready for when you want to get it and don't call in the middle of lunch when they are the busiest and expect them to drop everything, and take your phone order when they have a line of customers. read more
