Looks can be deceiving. If I hadn't somehow randomly clicked on this restaurant and randomly finding out what kind of food they served, I would never have tried it even though I drive past this unassuming place when I'm in Syracuse. The guys and ladies working there are super helpful (and honestly, patient without making me feel bad since it's my first time). Totally recommend the soup they have on Saturdays. I think they try to nudge people to get the large, since a small is $13 and a large that is twice the size is $15. Glad I was nudged though! Great whether by itself or eaten with rice. What I would say be careful of is the fish. It's super, super salty and I had to bring it back to cook it with other things to mild things out. But the beef and pork were nicely spiced and seasoned. There's a large parking lot in the back. Yi ou order at the counter. It seems the vast majority of their business is take out. I chose to dine in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While it's no frills it was very clean and pleasant, and there was a good amount of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Had the garlic shrimp mofongo, the first time I had it since I was in Puerto Rico. It didn't seem to be fried, but it was very tasty and absorbed the sauce from the shrimp. It seemed healthier. The service was extremely friendly. I just so love Spanish cuisine . Victorias is one of my favorites in Syracuse to go to. Located in a convenient location right off Erie Blvd. They have plenty of parking so parking won't be a problem. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is large where you can eat in with plenty of tables or you can takeout.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu has so many delicious options . My favorite is the chicken with beans and rice with a couple of empanadas. So yummy. Meals are large and you never leave you hungry. I have also tried the rib meal and the pepper and steak. I have been to the old location and I am glad they were able to move to a bigger space on Lombard Ave. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is clean with plenty of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is set up cafeteria style and you order what food they have out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was helped pretty quickly even though there were a lot of people waiting it went by fast. I went on a Saturday and was able to get some oxtails which are a Saturday special. Very tasty and full of flavor. The alcapurria blew me away, best I have had. I don't have a ton of experience with Spanish/Caribbean food outside of a few other places in town I just tried. Half of what I tried here, I Googled first. Just a disclaimer, I can't talk about authenticity but I can document my experience diving into a brand new kind of food. The building and place has a pretty benign feel to it. The restaurant faces the Fayette/Columbus intersection with a door right on the corner that does in fact lead into the restaurant. I've never not ordered ahead, but it seems like a lot of their food is ready to serve. Starting with the familiar, we tried both the beef and chicken empanadas, and the Cuban sandwich. No complaints about the empanadas, they were on par with just about any others we've tried in town. Good crunch, great cheesy flavor. The Cuban sandwich ate more like a sub you'd get from a deli. It was ham and pork with lettuce, mayo and tomatoes. No mustard, no pickles. I mean it wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't a Cuban sandwich. Unlike anywhere else we've had it, the oxtail is de-boned. You're getting just the meat, not just a few full cross sections. This gave us more opportunity to really appreciate the taste and texture of the meat. Definitely try oxtail here if you're on the fence about it. We took some wild shots at the menu, but there wasn't anything on there we weren't excited to try. Mofongo was a completely new experience for us. We're still forming a place for plantains in our life, and this is yet another way to do it. You haven't appreciated plantains until you've had them fried, mashed up with broth, garlic and spices, then packed into a ball and re-cooked. When you cut into it, the inside is porous and almost bready. There's really nothing else familiar to me I could compare it to. For me, that's the best endorsement I can give something. Also, the more I eat Spanish food, the more I want Yucas with everything else I eat. It's feels like a cross breed between a potato and a squash, but only with the absolute best of both. We ordered extra to put into our Sancocho. The alcapurria was so much better than it even looks. They had such a powerful flavor and none of the crash you'd expect from a bag that greasy. Everything we had was great, but this will repeatedly exceed your expectations. Another thing we learned about from here was the Pasteles en Hoja. The Dominican answer to tamales, and another brilliant way to mash plantains and root vegetables into a pulp and shape them into new food. You'll see in our pictures, I think we waited too long to open ours. It's kind of like comparing an actual Stouffer's meal to the picture on the box. We were pretty much just scraping paste off of paper. All that aside, the taste was unforgettable and once again, unlike anything I'm unfamiliar with elsewhere. I will add this to my order any chance I get. The only thing I recommend against is combo'ing up. You can get more bang for your buck going all in on something. The fried chicken small combo was just a single piece on a small bed of rice for $8.00. The chicken was dry and lightly breaded. No comparison to where ever you'd normally go for fried chicken. Since discovering this place a few months ago, this has been a go-to for lunch stops and for dinner take-out. We tried a lot of new things here and haven't been let down. read more

Doesn't look like much on the inside, but the food is delicious! I tried the beef stew with yellow rice and beans. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. You get quite a large portion for the price. Very friendly service, if you're not aware though they have moved and are no longer on Columbus Ave. instead, they're down the street and around the corner. I went to their new location and it is HUGE. They have your typical cafeteria hot pan set up that you traditionally see with these kind of restaurants. My daughter ordered pollo guisado (stewed chicken) with white rice and beans & I ordered the costillas guisado (stewed ribs) with rice and a little beans. I enjoyed my meal but I probably won't go back because it's not the best Spanish food I've eaten in the area. I like to taste the sofrito and seasonings more and to me this just tasted like meat cooked in tomato sauce and adobo. I had a papa relleno that needed a few more minutes of frying and again in the meat I didn't taste any flavor. It just tasted like regular ground beef with a little adobo sprinkled in. The beans also had a hint of sweetness I didn't really enjoy. A decent meal but not my favorite. read more

We had a tajeout meal We took out pork stew, masked plantain, yellow rice , black rice( moros), tostones, maduros and red beans. More than enough fir two meals.Thenpork stew oaired well with mashed plantains.veans paired well with rice.Delucioys neal for two days. The victiria restaurant on columbus ave had delivious meals. We also had some sancucho soup, enough for two meals. It was delicious with taro,tender beef and delicious broth. Snall place. It is a Dominican restaurant where everything was made in yhe restaurant. Food was at least 4 stars. The two young men who served us were iwners and very efficient, courteous and informative. I randomly asked a stranger walking by where he bought his food (I was snowed in) and he told me about Victoria's. I walked down the street and saw the sign. I hesitant to go in because it looks like it hasn't been updated in a while. But I didn't have many options. Once I walked in I was greeted by the woman in behind the counter. I explained to her that I had never tried Puerto Rican cuisine before. She graciously explained what every dish contained. The meals are made ready to serve. I chose the chicken and rice meal. Then I added the empanada de pollo. Also, the woman asked if I wanted beans. I asked if they were sweet or savory and she said she would throw in a small side of beans just so I can try them. I'm delighted she offered. The empanada de pollo and the beans were delicious! I can't wait to go back! The rice and chicken was also 5/5 stars. This place is a hidden gem.
