I underestimated how filling it would all be, and my total was only $11. Do not skip on the canoa, it was fantastic and had a lot of flavor. Great value, food was good, but not expensive quality. Place was clean, staff was helpful, they have a lot of seating for a place that primarily does counter service which is great to see. I was craving tacos so I went to this Latin restaurant because I checked online they had pretty cheap tacos. They didn't disappoint! Food: average: 8/10 4 piece carnitas tacos: $10 Compared to other restaurants I've looked at, one taco costed average about 6-7 dollars. So this was an amazing deal! Taco is very good, it had onion, cilantro and lime. Very filling, the only thing was it was a bit greasy. 8.7/10 Medium Combo meal: yellow rice with pepper steak: $10 It was decent, nice texture with the steak, rice was good. I'll ask for less broth next time because it made my rice a bit too soggy. 8/10 Vanilla Flan: $4 I've never had flan before so I thought I would try it! It's pretty good, too sweet for my liking, but I don't usually like sweet things in general. But it's a nice treat to have once in a while! 7.5/10 Service and ambience: 10/10 peaceful atmosphere, place was very clean and people were friendly! I didn't know what to expect because they offer a vast array of Latin cuisine instead of just specializing in one type. I was not disappointed. The server was super friendly and though mostly just tables there was some decor to liven up the place. Their desserts are so delectable. I ended up going back and getting more to take home. Got a medium combo platter and asked for congri, beans, pernil, and maduros and everything was delicious. The server looked at the pernil on the line and didn't think it was good enough to serve so he had us wait and got some fresh from the back with the crispy bits we love. Excellent. I met a good friend here for lunch - it was my first time - and wow! I got the chicken tacos and they were absolutely delicious. The best I've had. The interior of the restaurant is pretty sparse and there is not much in the way of decorations which is OK because they apparently put their efforts into the food. I was seeking some authentic Latin food and came across this place. I drove past this place today and decided to try it out. Here is the experience I had: Parking - there is a big parking lot at the restaurant. I didn't have any trouble finding a spot but when I left the parking lot did seem full. (I stopped on Wednesday around 7pm) Customer Service - there were two young girls working the counter. They were both friendly with each other and with the customers. I informed them it was my first time there and they were patient with me and explained a few things. Check out was quick and easy. Food - I reeeeeally wanted to try the pupusas but they were sold out for the night. The girl working the counter gave me the insider tip that the best time to grab some pupusas is in the morning so I'll definitely be back to try them. I ended up getting a few empanadas and maduros. They were all tasty and went well with my passion fruit drink. Experience - this place was full of Latin American folks. So this isn't much to look at. The food is cafeteria style and the lighting is fluorescent or maybe leds but to bright BUT the food is so good. The Cuban rice is a meal. The chicken is delicious. So are the plantains. Waiting for the mofongo. We will see. But cheap, homemade and what nice people. So, local and hard working people who we should support. There are a lot of choices of entrees, as well as 4 styles of rice to choose from. You can mix and match, and include more than one dish, which is a nice if you have a big appetite or just can't decide. I got the beef stew with Mexican rice, which was quite good, but I have to admit that I think that Don Juan, on Grand Ave near the Gifford zoo, is better. Also, I asked my server for a recommendation and she acted irritated and refused to suggest anything. Bottom line up front is that I truly enjoyed my meal as did my wife and son. By no means is this a TexMex or an Americanized Latin restaurant which is a very good thing. However, what it is is a legit and authentic Latin restaurant with flares of Puerto Rico & Mexico. I can honestly say it's a strong 3+/4- restaurant. I will reserve calling it any higher until I revisit and order off the menu as this review is based of what they had on the hot bar. However, if their hot bar is any indication of what they have on the menu I am looking forward to my next visit. Even though it was a hot bar it as very good - nothing was dried out or over cooked at all. The meats (5-6 choices) were flavorful, the rice (4 variants) were very nice and the meal was spot on with generous portions. This spot is legit! Food is great but I can tell when they have different people cooking. The first time I had they'd arroz con gandules (yellow rice) it was on point!! The next few times I went I could tell someone else made the rice that day, it was still good but not as good as the first time I went. Their pupusas are excellent with authentic slaw served with it. Carnitas tacos were ok, the carnitas could have been seasoned more. The last time we went, their pernil was seasoned perfectly and nice n juicy. I got takeout, so maybe that's why I wasn't too thrilled with the mofongo; the plantains were dry and the chicken stew didn't have much "stew" or broth at all. I always thought mofongo was served with some broth or liquid of some kind. However, the fried pork platter canoas, and pupusa con chicharron y queso were all delicious! I'm giving it four stars because the flavor was there; food tasted really good and I'm excited to try more items on their menu. I LOVE this place. I've tried several Latin/Spanish restaurants in the area and so far this is my favorite. Mi Casa Grande is the real deal! The food was amazing. I've only been once, but bought several items for me and my family. I moved here from NYC and I've missed Latin/Spanish food terribly. This restaurant has filled that void for me. Pernil with Cuban rice and yuca - all amazing Beef and cheese empanada - absolutely delicious My husband had the stewed chicken and baked chicken with Puerto Rican rice and a chicken and cheese empanada. He enjoyed all of his food. The service was wonderful. They are super friendly! I'm definitely going to be a regular. I also plan on spreading the word about how yummy their food is. The worst Spanish food I've ever had. The chicken was DRYYYYYYYYYYYY. Like the most dry chicken I've ever had. It was not sitting in any juice or anything to keep it moist.
