I was surprised to find that this grocery store also had casual dining. They had a variety of beef and pork dishes and rice at the counter that you can choose from. I had roasted pork, beef with vegetables, yellow rice, and a shrimp empanada. Very flavorful , delicious, and filling ! read more

There are limited meat options as I thought it was more of a carnicería. The prices are decent and the restaurant attached to it is pretty delicious. The staff is very nice. I would recommend for Latin food needs when it comes to spices and cooking sauces over shopping at Rowe's as this market is less expensive for those items. The quesadillas and tortas were spot on delish! Who knew this little hole in the wall place was packing some uber flavorful grub?!? I thought this was was just a grocery store, but you can walk in, step up to the register and place your order for food. Let them know if you want to eat in (there are chairs and tiny tables) or if you want it to go. You then bring your food order receipt over to the food counter and drop it off to them and wait ever so patiently for your turn. We went on a Sunday and it was pretty crowded, but after tasting the grub, it's worth the crowded violation of your personal bubble space. Don't expect to come in here and be seated like a formal (or even casual) restaurant, because it isn't. Even the table space was tight with all the people in there today. While you wait for your food to be prepped, go through the grocery area and pick out a few drinks and snacks. If you're feeling adventurous, walk over to the meat counter and take your pick from raw and marinated meats to take home and cook yourselves. Tip: grab your food order "to go" and drive 2 minutes away to Huffman Boulevard Park so you can enjoy your eats out in the fresh air under their covered picnic table space. read more

Ever time my husband or I have come to get a meal and go we are never disappointed! Our top choice is the barbacoa! Tender and juicy. Amongst all of he other dishes we've tried! The butcher is great at explaining all the meats and how there cook in his culture. I love it!! The staff is great- even when u done understand their language lol They truly make u feel at home. First of all I don't know how I missed this place before that I wanted a real taco not Tijuana flats taco. I wanted a hood Mexican Street taco. I went initially thinking I was just going to pick up the ingredients get some marinated meat and go on my way. Oh but then I saw barbacoa. And I don't mean what Chipotle calls barbacoa. I got three tacos 2 asada 1 barbacoa. It was everything that I needed in my belly today. I moved here from San Antonio so the book barbacoa wasn't perfect but then again this is Jacksonville and regionally things taste different. I haven't been able to find barbacoa in Jacksonville. not to mention I wish I had asked her for more salsa or I wish they sold it in a jar because it was on point. So now that I'm stuffed with my tacos and I got my meat marinating for later now I'm thinking which one of you yelpers making margaritas. There are three Mi Pueblo stores on Beach Blvd within about a half-mile of each other. Initially, they were owned by one man, but he has sold each store to a different individual. This particular store is referred to by the owner as "Mi Pueblo #1." It is primarily Latin American grocery store with a restaurant in the back. We went for lunch, and were well pleased. Two of our group had the special of the day, Mexican Steak. Slices of marinated steak served in a spicy (the Hispanic member of our group couldn't handle it) and flavorful sauce accompanied with rice and re-fried beans. I had a bar-b-q chicken taco and a pork taco. Both were served in a soft corn taco shell with black beans, raw onions, and spice. The tacos were excellent. Four people ate for less than $30 so the value is right. Only downside is the very limited seating, but they weren't busy with dine-in customers so we sat comfortably. read more

I always see this place with the parking lot packed so curiosity finally got the best of me. This place carries a lot of essentials for the Latin foods chef. I'm not a great cook (and not too terrible either), but I decided it was time to start making the foods I love to eat (or crave periodically). And I made the mistake of craving tamales, because I didn't realize how involved it was. Lol. First the cornmeal (they carry Maseca Corn Masa Mix), then the corn husk leaves, then the filling. Oh boy! I got scared, backed out, and decided on simple churros. So I got the mix. They used to sell ready-made churros here, but there wasn't enough demand. Drat. I wish I had known, then I would have kept the demand up for them. =) They do sell tamales here, though. I didn't really get a look at their hot foods since I was trying to avoid buying in favor of making my next meal. There were also various spices (like Adobo), sauces (Cholula hot sauce, for example), dried foods, cheeses, ready-made tortillas, and meats. However, we spent most of our time in the mixes aisle. Surprisingly, they also carry quick-fix ramen here (which most of us know as a college staple. Lol). Oh, and if you aren't fluent in Spanish, there is a young guy who works here that speaks English. I've been here a few times and the service has always been fantastic. I've had the carne asada tacos, shredded beef burrito (my favorite), and carne asada quesadilla. The food is extremely affordable. The tacos are about $2.40 each. Burrito and quesadilla costs around $5.99. They have a few tables for you to dine in. Typically I go between 11-noon, and the place can get pretty pack. It's a small standing alone building with a grocery store inside. I haven't grocery shopped so I can't comment on that. Other than that, if you're looking for some affordable and GOOD Mexican food, I suggest giving this place a try. read more

They have inside meat cutting and marination. You can buy premade and marinated chicken, pork, and beef mexican style meat. Bring it home and bake/grill it directly. Also they have an inside kitchen which sells common Mexican food like barbacoa. Simply amazing taste and their corn tortillas are to the point. Went to Mi Pueblo to pickup some carne asada beef and chicken and was very impressed with the meat selection marinade and not marinade and the meat was so juicy and tendered when I cooked it as a carne asada taco salad would, customer service was great and they assisted me with all of my needs. Would definitely recommend this place as they have a wide variety of Mexican and Puerto Rician selection, would definitely recommend this place especially if you are looking for good quality meat to cook!! read more

We found out about this place through tour "buffet" filter in our searches. When we got there we couldn't have been more disappointed in what they call buffet. There was only one row with half of the sections filled with old food, so instead we ordered off the menu. Welp, that wasn't the best option. They claim being a Mexican store but the menu items carry French ingredients and wrote down in Portuguese terms!! Staff spoke little English and very little Spanish, but they communicated amongst themselves in Portuguese. Food was a mess with most of the items missing. Don't waste your money or time. read more

(Note: First off, about me - I hail from SoCal and have been blessed to have enjoyed lots of really good authentic mexican food in my life; second, I'm comparing this to something of the same caliber - meaning, I'm comparing it to the little mexican tienda with the food bar in back, not the watered-down sit-down American mexican restaurant or anything (which some people enjoy); and third, this is based on this particular experience here today - what we ordered & ate, not what we didn't order (who knows, maybe other things are better?), and not how nice or great the store is or whatever (it looked average), etc.... So, this review is solely based on what we (hubby, myself, and 2 kids) had -, which were 2 lengua burritos, and a pollo burrito. And, unfortunately, like my previous experience at the other Mi Pueblo #2 down the street (going west), I am left appalled & disappointed once again hat this one was this bad!! I was holding out hope & decided to try it, simply because I had read on here that they each had different owners (?) - and this one actually was reviewed several times and had pretty good reviews.... So I just thought it could be better.....but NOPE! It's just as bad as the other one in terms of burritos!! :-( Burrito descriptions: average size, a bit on the smaller-side, not as small as what I had at the other Mi Pueblo #2 but still leaving quite a bit to be desired. Again, used the Kraft singles American cheese!!! I couldn't believe it!! This place used them too!! This time it was not the orange kind but the white kind - AND - they even put two additional slices of them on top after they were done rolling them and stuck them each in the microwave twice (like, they stuck each of the 3 plates in once, then started over and stuck them all in one at a time again, leaving the last one in for a long time!!) so that they were burning up HOT HOT HOT and the meat was drying out!!!! (:-O) (Again, would've greatly preferred mexican cheese, fresh mex crumbled cheese, or no cheese!). Other than the cheese factor, the just put plain white rice, not mexican rice! And then put a round sliced tomato, just like the other Mi Pueblo, that shimmied back and forth inside so most bites were without tomato. The lengua that was put on one of the burritos, was a fair amount (still needed more in my opinion, but a fair amount); however, the lengua that was put in the other lengua burrito, was just a tiny smattering! Which made it weird because when I was cutting up the burritos (they were too hot to hold & the fact that they had melted Kraft singles on the outside - well, yeah, you see what I mean.... I prefer straight up handheld!) so when I was cutting them up on the two plates & divy-ing it up between 3 plates (me & the kids), I had to kept transfering the "innards" (for lack of a better term at the moment) back and forth between all 3 plates, just so that everyone could have some of everything - so that was pretty weird that they didn't make the 2 lengua burritos uniform... (My 2-yr old son ended up with tons of lengua in his and hardly anything else, and mine was the opposite, so all that fanagling back and forth to make sure everyone got everything took a while....) Hubby's chicken looked good, but did NOT taste as good as it looked.... more on the flavorless side. My main gripe with this place was the Kraft singles inside and outside, the burrito, melted in and on..... and the SMOKING HOT and even HOTTER in certain places, TWICE-MICROWAVED burritos (as if you should even put them in the microwave once - why not just make the burrito & serve it???). Definitely disappointed.... won't be going back... like the other Mi Pueblo, only if it were like our only option around and if we really had a serious craving for something closer to authentic and we had to choose between that and the sit-down/watered-down Americanized mexican places (you know those kind where they only say something like "beef taco" on the menu, not what kind, and use spaghetti sauce for the red sauce in their entrees), would we venture back here again.... read more

So disappointed, for starters this place was dirty. The botcher serving the meet didn't wear gloves he grabbed the raw meets with his hands. And the food section was horrible! Thanks to Cari, we checked Mi Pueblo Grocery Store out on Sunday. It was jam packed with all sorts of Latino culinary goodies. We stocked up on Maggi hot and sweet sauce, arepas, hot sauce, canary beans (never had them so I'll let you know how that goes!), queso blanco, chorizo, and various dried chilies. I had fun checking out the meat counter also. The chiccarones were tempting but I passed this time around. I look forward to trying their ox-tail (for Filipino kare kare!). Driven by this place a hundred times but finally decided to stop in. Great selection of Mexican and central American groceries as well as some Dominican and puerto Rican products. Food was really good got barbacoa and al pastor tacos with a side of rice and beans. Reminded me of the bodegas i grew up eating at in south florida, ill definitely be back. read more

To the burrito 'expert'. Mexicans don't eat burritos. Burritos, as seen in the USA are like Chop Sooy, to Chinese. The Durango part of Mexico does have something called a ' burrito', It has 1/5 th the ingredients, 1/4 the size and is mostly meat...nothing like an American Burritto. My wife is Mexican and she won't have anything to do with them Generally, if you see burrittos on the menu..go away..the food is no more Mexican than mcDonalds. read more

Never again! I was initially attracted to them because I love food from Spanish-speaking countries. As a Puerto Rican-American, I enjoy shopping for those hard-to-find items that I enjoyed with my grandparents, but it seems that the Mi Pueblo cashiers make up the prices as they go along. If the item doesn't have the price listed, forget it! You're better off ordering it on-line. I had purchased some frozen empanadas one day for $4.99 and when I returned another time to purchase the same exact item, I was charged $5.99. Because I enjoyed them so much, I returned another time and they rung me up for $7.99! When I objected, I was told that I was charged incorrectly on the first two occasions. Not wanting to give up on my fellow Spanish speakers, I decided to give their restaurant a try for lunch. I ordered a very basic meal of white rice, beans, sweet plantains and thinly sliced steak with onions with a Malta beverage - my ridiculous total was $13.67!!! They charged me 10.99 for the food, $10.99!!! If you've frequented a Latino restaurant or even a Caribbean themed restaurant, you know that your standard lunch plate will be 7.99 - 8.99, tops. This place is ok. I only go to Mi pueblo #2 since I ran into it. This one the meat cut selection is terrible. The other one isn't that great but it's better. Mind you I'm coming from San Diego where we have huge Mexican supermarkets left and right and smaller markets like these in every corner with much more selection. I'm used to seeing every cut available on display but hey at least there's something in Jacksonville semi close to back home. Just wish I could find more Mexican goodies. read more
