My favorite place to run in and grab meats, salmon, shrimp & fresh produce. They also have ribs & chicken they smoke and they are fabulous. The prices on steaks are the best around. The fresh salmon is always great and the house made twice baked potatoes are huge and really delicious. The produce is always good as well. The interior is clean and not cluttered. What really makes this is the staff. Everyone is so nice and accommodating. It's a locally owned family business. If you like to shop at Carroll's meat shoppe use the one on university blvd north not the one on saint augustine rd. The reason why the one on saint augustine rd just throws their meats in the packages for their freezer special. Plus when they put their 2 lbs of hamburger in the package they do not put dividing paper in it and they take chunks of hamburger away and just tape up the package. I have shopped at both locations for many years I recommend the original location on university blvd north. I truly wish I could give Carroll's meat shoppe on saint augustine rd absolutely no stars and the one on university blvd north 5 stars. read more

Stopped in at this small stand alone market today to grab some steaks for Mother's Day. It is currently undergoing some renovations but is still open. Just be careful which door you enter bc if you walk by the guys working they won't stop running stuff like power tools so you can enter. The shop had several cuts on sale or in the display case to include bone-in ribeye, boneless ribeye and filets. They will also cut steaks to order. They had several specials going on but I opted for 5-8 ounce NY Strips which were on sale for 4 for $20 or single for $5.99 each. I also grabbed some twice baked potatoes. The staff was personable and attentive and wrapped everything up for me in butcher paper. They will also offer suggestions if you need help. I also grabbed some of the barbecue they smoke on site. I grabbed a quarter rack of ribs for $7.99 and some smoked wings (can't remember the price). They also sell fresh vegetables, seafood and homemade chicken salad. I walked out the door with everything for around $54. Felt like a good deal and value. If you were in a pinch for a meal on the grill you could walk in there and grab everything you need. read more

I visited Carroll's with a friend that wanted to pick up some freezer meats. I browsed the sections and they had all sorts of exotic meats to the regular standard beef and chicken for the average person. I cant say that I was overly impressed with the prices although the cuts of beef seemed very nice it was pricey. There were some cuts that I had never heard of and I was told they were the best cuts and best cooked on the more rare side. Rare would never fly in my household so that expensive piece of meat was not to be on this shopping trip, in fact I opted not to buy anything based on the prices. I can do better when I watch the weekly sales flyer at the local supermarkets. On the positive side, the store was very clean and the staff was very friendly. I did not see alot of people making large purchases just mostly small sales. They do sell king crab legs but bring some big cash for those crabbys for sure! read more

I must say that the customer service here is above and beyond. I went to pick up my turkey today, but my order was not correct. I didn't get the woman's name, but she went out of her way to make me a happy customer again. I didn't yell or make a scene, but I did feel a tear trickle down my cheek (since I though I would have no turkey for Thanksgiving) when she told me about my order. I'm glad to know that there are still businesses out there that care about the customer! Oh, and I cried all the way home because of how much she cared!!! This is an otherwise great local meat shop whose reputation is being ruined by a cashier who refuses to wear a mask on the grounds of " claustrophobia" and resulting high blood pressure. She interfaces with every paying customer, comes out from behind the register and stands 2-3 feet from customers and cares not one wit that she may be infecting others. It's all about her. Obviously, the management and owner allows her to do this. Though I really do like the store's great selection and prices, I do not intend to shop here again until the Pandemic is completely over. This woman does not think local public health ordinances apply to her and the store is flouting city ordinances as well. This is the second time I have encountered this cashier. I am going to make a complaint to the city. read more

I love Carroll's Meat Shoppe! They sell some condiments, a few fresh veggies, some frozen veggies, honey and a few other items besides meat. I love the thick sliced bacon they sell by the pound. They only kind of meat I will not purchase here is the ground beef or ground chuck. It just tastes funny. I don't like the texture of the ground meat either. I like to buy all the other meats. I have never done this, but they have meat packages for purchase also for larger sized families. I like the employees, they are always friendly. I like the way they wrap the meat up as well. Check for their sales when you go in. Sometimes they have great daily(or maybe weekly) deals. read more

Sometimes it's nice to listen to word of mouth and try somewhere new instead of always relying on supermarkets. The parking is plentiful, the exterior has a slight old-world charm to it and the interior is very nicely laid out, easy to navigate and very clean, the prices either match or come in below what you'd expect to pay at a chain supermarket, but I didn't see anything that looked outrageously marked up. Please be warned, Carroll's are loved because they stock the cuts that you can't easily find elsewhere, and I've noticed that the freezer cabinets on the right as you enter tend to stock more...exotic items...and during the few times I've visited I've seen my share of sheep heads, funky pork bits and so on. It's actually darkly funny to have something look back at you from a cloudy cabinet, and it's wonderful that Carroll's support nose to tail eating. So, adventurous floor-to-ceiling freezer cabinet on the right as you go in, along with great cuts of lamb, venison, seafood options and so on, and also a table holding hot, ready-to-eat items. On your immediate left as you enter is the check out, a pot of boiled peanuts, and a waist-high chilled display holding assorted items. There's also a shelf of fresh pita breads and fresh baked products against the windowed wall on the far left. Further in on the back right you'll find the meat counter: well worth a visit at they have a great range of delicious homemade sausages and more recognised meat cuts. There's a fantastic team of guys manning this area, all ready to provide you with any specialty cuts you may want in addition to the items on display. They didnt make me feel silly when I asked about beef fingers (a friend had recommended that I try them, so I put on my poker face convinced that I was being set up - turns out that they are actually a thing, only not available from Carroll's due to the fiddly process for making them). The back left contains the fruit and vegetables, and 2 separate chilled cabinets contain rib racks and other ready-to-cook cuts as well as a section of cooked and chilled ready-to-eat options. We stopped by after our usual weekly trip to Publix to look for some steaks to grill. Upon walking in we were immediately greeted by the friendly butcher from behind the counter. He was helpful and quick and we were happy to get 4 large steaks for $20! The price would easily be double at Publix and not nearly as fresh. Purchased two pre-cut/pre-wrapped fillets for $7 each. Fillets were about 4 oz each so the equates to about $28 per pound. (16 oz /4 oz = 4 x $7 = $28 per pound). Stay away from the freezer packs. I've been to other butcher shops in the area and found great product and value so I was pretty excited to try out this place since it was close to where I live. Unfortunately I didn't have the greatest experience here. We purchased a freezer pack special that came with all kinds of stuff; ribeyes, t-bones, chicken wings, bacon, etc. ALL 8 steaks were rancid. Gray, slimy film and had that undeniable funky bad meat smell. All cuts of chicken were fine and tasted great. The bacon looked fine but the taste was very gamey and not very pleasant. So my take is it's a crapshoot at best. The fresh meat on display looked great but I guess they wrap and freeze very different product. Would not recommend. Wasted $90. read more

Amazing little mom and pop store. I stop by every time I'm in the area to check out there specials. Every day special is Filet 4 for $20... GREAT deal. The meat is amazing. They have high quality meats and even make their own sausage. The selection of veggies is pretty good for this size store. We had the opportunity to meet one of the owners and he was a genuine nice guy. His son, who is 5 (I believe) carried out our groceries!! It was like being in a better time. The store is always very clean and smells amazing. None of that weird meat smell, it smells like smoked meat/BBQ. I went into Carrolls to see what kind of deals they might have on steaks. I was very pleased with the staff and they were extremely helpful. I am not familiar with the different types of steak and the butcher there was nice enough to go over every type of steak they had and the best cuts of meat. The butcher also shared the history of store with me. The prices were excellent and the customer service was awesome. This is the best place to purchase meat products and I plan to come again soon. read more

Great prices... wow! And an awesome selection of warm smoked foods. However the smoked pork chop that I got, was sold on a black styrofoam tray that melted, and then had a second tray under it. I would have thought with the risk of it being melted, they wouldn't have sold it. After calling to give feedback, the guy was appreciative of my comments about maybe packaging them when they aren't so hot. However, I will ignore that, and return many times. Never ended buying meat here due to the extreme rudeness of this place. We were going to purchase a 124 lbs of meat for roughly $649.00 that was advertised on their website and had been for months. We called to inquire about it and was very rudely told that we couldn't have it for that price because the price of meat had gone up and they were raising their prices although the website did not reflect that. The person on the phone said he didn't know what the new prices would be but should be on the website on Monday (called on a Fri). So we kept watching the website and the prices never changed online. .still $649..so we called again 3 weeks after our initial call. We were told the same thing. .again, extremely rudely by a man shouting in the background (not the guy who answered the phone) that it was wrong and the meat would be $900 something. They lost a customer before they even had one. ..poor customer service and bad business sense!!! And what awful is we would have paid the 900 something for it.. Update.. We emailed the contract us link on the page and was presumably emailed back by an owner who feigned ignorance about the whole thing on his website. We went to go check the website and it is gone. .they took it down and then the guy pretends he knows nothing of the deal they had. This is a dishonest merchant. Prior to the Dec 15th pick-up date, I ordered a Prime Grade standing rib roast for a party for friends from out of town. I put down a deposit and a few days later I returned to confirm with the owner that this would be Prime Grade. He assured me that it would be. On the 15th I picked up the roast and again asked the lady butcher if this was Prime Grade. She replied, ah, yeah - that should have been the final clue that it was not. After serving the roast for our evening meal, we found that the meat was so tough we could not even eat it. Total embarrassment in front of our guests. This was definitely NOT Prime Grade beef as represented. Never again will I patronize this merchant. read more

We went in to buy some rib eye steaks, the guy behind the counter pulled 2 steaks from beneath the display and wrapped them up. When we got home we saw that he had wrapped up 2 steaks that were definitely not rib eyes. They had no eye and very little marbling (sp). I tried to support a small business and got ripped off.
