One thing worth noting is everything we got had a lot of meat They don't skimp! I will GLADLY pay $3.50 for a loaded down taco! Prices are clearly marked Here's a rundown of what we got: 1. Torta Cubana- filled with alllll the meats and it's A TON of food. Two hungry men could easily share one sandwich. 2. Steak Taco- the best street taco I've had in the Bham area so far. Lots of meat. Yellow corn tortillas, so fresh. Added my own onions/cilantro/hot sauce so I got as much as I like to have (which is a lot) 3. Steak Gorditas- tortilla pocket was perfect. Meat and cheese perfect. I will think of this every day this week and get this again and again forever. 4. Papusas (bean and cheese)- Also perfect. The tortilla was perfectly Mexican style and thin with a little crisp on the outside. How do they get them so thin without tearing? I dream of making papusas like this. Someone's abuela with 50 years of experience must pat these out cause that's the only explanation! They are beautiful! If you are wanting some authentic Mexican food, this is your solution. There's a buffet that looks incredible. I don't even know everything that was on it but it all looked homemade. The market has the best avocados I've seen anywhere and the assortment of dried chiles is impressive. Go for the restaurant, then do your grocery shopping after you eat. Prices are excellent. Spoiler alert: I am in English only speaking Anglo. I love love love shopping here. It feels a little bit reminiscent of a visit across the Rio Grande. The store is very clean, the customer service is on point, and the selection is great. By the way, if you're Anglo, don't try to pay cash, the cashier may decide to short you a little bit and add a tip into her pocket. It's just easiest if you pay with your debit card and check the receipt to make sure you were charged for what you purchase. read more

What is the coolest grocery store in the area? Whole Foods? Nope. Earth Fare? Nope. The answer is this place. They just relocated to the old Food World next door and the place is amazing! The place is huge and the selection is stunning, especially for a city of our size. They have a section that make homemade tortillas fresh on the spot which I haven't seen in Alabama. The buffet looks like a nice upgrade from the last place. They are now trying to market it as an international grocery store, not just a Mexican one. They have sections for Puerto Rican, Argentinian, Indian, and even Japanese food items, etc. If you want to experience a clean, modern international grocery store without driving to Atlanta, you need to check this place out! read more

My husband and I visited after reading Yelp reviews in hopes of finding some chili powders listed in a Bobby Flay cookbook. What a treat! The produce was amazing - several varieties of mango, papayas, guanabana, plantains, chilis of course, and so much more. I was amazed at the variety of cheeses and there were fascinating drinks galore. The wall of breads and pastries was enticing - we brought home two loaves of bread and a pastry each, and all were delicious. We were able to find two of the four chili powders on our list, but found dried chilis for the other two varieties, so our mission was accomplished. Despite the seemingly happy crowd, we did not brave the unlabeled buffet items. I have not seen it mentioned in other reviews, but by the front door is an ice cream counter. Next time I'm going to try some! All the staff members I encountered were helpful, friendly and spoke excellent English. Overall I was impressed by the selection and intrigued by the atmosphere and will be back. read more

I'm going to gloss over the fact that the supermarket itself has a great and unique produce section, a bakery with freshly made Mexican pastries and tortillas, and an endless supply of these yogurt drinks that looks like five hour energies. Instead, I want to urge people to check out the in store buffet. For 9.99 you get endless authentic Mexican food ranging from flautas to tamales. There is a ton to try and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Its a different experience then going to your standard quick Mexican place, but well worth the trip. I visited this supermarket on a whim while we were traveling down Greensprings one day and WOAH!! This place is awesome. The butcher and produce section alone blows my mind. Great prices, mass quantity to choose from, and stuff I would love to try if it weren't a quick look through. I did end up going back to hand choose great jalapeños at a killer price. But if I went on a shopping spree in the meat section, our fridge would be too full. Plus my wife wouldn't be too happy if I decided to try and make my own hogshead cheese at home. I am not one who would shop here for my weekly shopping (although I probably could). But if I was looking for a unique item for a latin american dish, this would be my first stop. What a wonderful treat to stop in here! We were hunting fresh tortillas and we're not disappointed!! We watched them making the tortillas and got them bagged to go. The produce section had a great selection and good prices. While the signs were in Spanish most of it was recognizable. We also found plenty of treats that I grew up eating in Southern California that I haven't seen some nice I lived there (a long time ago). The meat selection looked good though we didn't pick anything up today. The buffet smelled amazing but we had just grabbed a bite to eat so just wasn't hungry but I will definitely be back! I love this place! A coworker recommended Mi Pueblo and I finally went in to see what the rave was about. Wow, there is the vast assortments of products typical to Central America. Their meat selection is great, they even have meats like goat and rabbit. Their bakery is wonderful, once a week I pick 3 items that I have not tried before and try them. Lastly, I order the buffet when I go because they offer a diversity of foods and homemade drinks. Take a few moments and look around, thats what I did the first time I went in. I also like to check-out the dried chilis to see what might take my dish to the next level. Another favorite of mine is the meat counter. Unlike other meat departments, they don't try to hide any part of the meat. It's all out there in the open so you can see what they have and make your choices accordingly. This is a really cool place to shop for mexican or any other international items. The produce selection is awesome. You can find things here that are not in other stores. Also a wide variety of grocery items. I have only bought a few things each time I go, because I just don't know what to do with some of the stuff. But I am learning. This isn't just a grocery store. They have a buffet in the back. The parking lot is always packed, so after visiting a nearby church we stopped in. First we wandered around a bit, meandering past heaping piles of produce, bins of dried peppers, and a case of very red, beautiful meat. We made our way to the back, following our noses; the aroma was amazing. I'm embarresed to admit that even though I consider myself pretty well traveled, I really had no idea about the food. I have always eaten at Mexican resturants, but we all know that the food is very Americanized. I frequented one in Valdosta, GA while in college for margarittas and noticed when the staff ate they always had something very different looking from what was on the menu. But I digress...so we ordered the buffet for us and our children. You can get a bottled drink from the cooler or you can go to a table where there is a bucket of water with a ladle and some cups. No joke!! We opted for the bottled drinks. There were various meats and soupy looking things. All highly flavored and spicy! There was a red soup, cabbage, spicy thing with chcicken feet in it that I really wanted to try but didn't know how to ask for a bowl. The tortillas were all fresh and HOMEMADE, thick and totally different from what I've had before. The chips were fried from the same tortillas making them thick and crispy. No salsa of course but I found some fresh pico and chowed down. My children had a little trouble, but ate the rice fine. I was TOUCHED when the man we ordered the buffet from arrived at our table with two, huge, fresh, cheese quesadillas and presented them to my children. I was such a sweet gesture and they ate them immediatly. You can see the kitchen from the buffet area and I watched in AWE as a man rolled, piped, and dusted piles of fresh, beautiful pasteries. I kept asking my husband, "where are those, WHAT are those, how do I get one of those?!" We finished eating and walked around the aisles some more. I was hunting a lemon lime salt "candy" that my girlfriends and I used to eat when I lived in Southern California. There was a lady blowing up balloons for the kids and she gave some to my sons. Of course my youngest busted one of his, the lady heard it, heard his crying, and found us with a new one before we could find her. I found my candy, and also got some tomato boullion and another salt/chili spice. In the produce department they had plum tomatos 2lbs for $1! I know where I'll be getting those from now on! And there were some beautiful fresh cheeses in the dairy aisle I can't wait to try. At the front we found the pasteries!! We bought 4 HUGE pasteries ($0.75 each). We got the boys a giant cookie, two rolled things (like giant cannolis) and a flat, square pastery with a pineapple and cherry, resembling a piece of pineapple upside down cake. The rolled ones ended up being filled with lemon and one with cream. FANTASTIC! Also there was a girl behind a table with giant cups of fruit. I went over and she sprinckled a chili salt on the cup and squeezed a fresh lime. The cup had pineapple, watermelon, papaya, and I think jicama. Delicious and only $3. In all the buffet, 2 seasoning, candy, pasteries and fruit totaled $30. You really should go here if you are interested. It was a nice outing for our family. We were treated kindly and received well. I wonder if it's the same for them when they frequent businesses aound town. Sadly, I fear it is not. read more

So I have driven by this place several times and decided I have to check it out. I'm accustomed to driving to Atlanta often to get my international market fix. When you walk in, the store is well organized, no weird smells and clean! Produce is to the right - hopefully you can figure most of it out but all the signs are in Spanish. I brought my fiance with me who's fluent so he got me around. I was in heaven in the produce section! Bokchoy, bean sprouts, daikon and all of the other normal veggies! Oh and Chinese eggplant too!! Mangos, plaintains and so many other varieties! True it didn't have all of the items I can get in Atl but it definately has more than my local grocery store and way more reasonable than getting this stuff at Whole Foods! There was a meat and fresh fish section in the back. I didn't get any but it looked to carry a nice selection, even marinated meats. The normal packaged items are also available along with additional Spanish/latin items ie cheeses, spices, rices, etc. There was also an "international" aisle that carried Argentinian/oriental/indian items! Picked up whole cumin, methi seeds and masoor daal!! And it was cheaper than my local Indian store! The bean aisle will blow your mind- who knew there were that many kinds of beans???? The bakery section was also very cool, I'll be trying some of those sweet breads on my next trip! Overall I was highly impressed and will be back in between my Atl trips! I would add some English signs just to be user friendly to the non Spanish-speaking folk but I understand, it's not like we put English signs up in our Indian stores because we cater to our own people. But if you want to drum up business and really be pro international, add some English! read more

All is fantastic. Been in several times. I agree with all the review thus far. EXCEPT - You have to watch the buffet. I have been in 3 times to have the buffet and was charged $7.00. Today I went in and was told to fill up my take out box and come back and show them what I got and then they would price it. I did so, expecting $7.00 as always. She said it was $9.00!!!! There is no posting for the varied prices for buffet regardless of what you select. All she could say was that the beans was $7 and the meat is $9.00. Funny how I have always gotten meat everytime I go. I get the same thing everytime and it was always $7.00. I suggested that those price variations should be posted somewhere. THEN, she started speaking spanish. She could no longer speak english. I am of mexican descent, and I am ashamed that this employee would scam me. I told her that was cheating. She acted as if she could not understand me. I am embarassed for my people acting this way. I am embarrassed for this owner who runs a great business and hads great food.
