I'd like to share my experience as a victim of a minor hit-and-run accident in Miami. While the accident itself wasn't major, the way the Miami Police Department handled it was deeply troubling. Even though the incident occurred at a well-monitored intersection with a 360-degree city camera, police were uncooperative and dismissive. I tried to file a supplemental report and update my case information but was repeatedly misled by staff -- told to come in person only to be handed a phone number to call. When I followed their advice and visited other Miami police stations, they all redirected me back to the central department, which ultimately refused to assist at all. I was never contacted by a detective, and though one internal investigator did call me and take my statement over the phone (promising to email the report), I never heard back. I also attempted to obtain the traffic camera footage, only to discover that neither Miami-Dade County nor FDOT would release it, claiming the cameras are only for real-time monitoring. I received nothing but generic, copy-paste responses. The entire process was disorganized, unaccountable, and handled with arrogance. As I arrived at the downtown station, I even saw a police car illegally parked in the left turn lane -- a fitting symbol for how rules are enforced (or not) in the city. My case may seem small, but how we handle minor incidents says a lot about how the system functions overall. Neglect today encourages escalation tomorrow. Miami deserves better. read more

Fraudulent activities perpetrated by their officers. Motorcycle officer sitting at intersection without proper markings for the sole purpose of citing people that aren't mind readers. There is no one way sign and traffic is permitted to turn left right into their trap. I went back to the intersection after getting $179 ticket and turned away a number of drivers that were about to do the same thing I did because there is no signage to stop them. I had terrible experiences with a Miami-Dade Police Department detective in the hate crimes elderly exploitation task force. I have been a victim of a hate crime. I had a concussion and other medical issues due to the hate crime against me. The detective was disrespectful and rude and threatened me to tell them what they liked to hear, not the truth. I had to report them to the appropriate authorities in Police Department ethics. My memory was terrible, and I was suffering from tremendous anxiety, depression, and pain because of this hate crime. I asked the detective for time to get better, and he refused and was upset with me. I tried to work with that detective, but I couldn't take any more of his attacks and threats and made games. The detective was trying to make a judgment on my background and paid me no attention. I apologized to the detective initially because I figured it was his job, but he got so rude. He victimized me again and told me I needed to apologize to the person who assaulted me, made jokes, and downplayed my injuries with another detective. read more

5/12/2020 You have to admit the cops sure do deserve something ! when you and or your loved ones suffer mental disability and you need to call 9-1-1, believing that mental health professionals can be trusted, and you take their advise calling 9-1-1, as they often advise when the mentally ill are having a mental breakdown, whom, needs emergency attention and are not in any place to make sound decisions for themselves, thinking that calling 9-1-1 that they will bring "professional health services" that understand how to handle a "difficult situation". and what you receive are the cops coming into your home with an attitude like as if you disturbed their donut break and decide to manhandle the mentally ill causing trauma, mental anguish, and PTSD to the sufferer and the family. You would think at this moment, why didn't they just come in guns drawn and shoot and kill everyone and call it a day. Their idea of "help" seems to be, "wanna cure the mentally ill, just cause more mental problems" and leave a family with more problems than they had before the cops showed up, this seems to be these pigs' notion of "professional help", and ultimately with the mentally ill getting no real help but handcuffed and having the family watch a loved one taken away as if they committed a crime for having a mental disability. Having to witness a loved one shocked and confused as to why police officers' are pulling them out of the bathroom naked and treating them with aggressive force and handcuffing them, after telling the operator over the 9-1-1 line that such force is not needed, is the worst feeling you could ever experience! thinking that you did the right thing listening to mental health professionals advise. I'll tell you this what the cops really need is not respect, what they need is a bullet through their heads and have their families abused as well. FUCK THE COPS THE ONLY GOOD COP IS A DEAD COP! It is absolutely disgusting the attitude on these people. They are providing us with a service, that we are paying for with our own money. I feel sick to my stomach just sitting here. I don't speak Spanish so when we came in and read the sign in English that said "sign in sheet" with an arrow towards the next window, we signed in and then asked the officer behind the window if we sit and wait for our name to be called. The officer ignored us the first time so we asked again and he cut us off and pointed to the chairs(that by the way are falling apart and are all leaning uncomfortably forward) and said "sit down" we both looked at each other in disbelief that this guy was so rude. While sitting for a while I kept looking at the sign that says where to sign in but I don't see anything that says to sit down and wait for your name to be called. That's when I asked my boyfriend what the sign in Spanish said, and he said it gives clear instructions on signing in and sitting down to wait for your name to be called. The same man called "Carlos" so we stood up and as we are walking the five steps to the window, the man calls Carlos' name two additional tones as if there are thirty people in the room and no one is standing up. We get to the window and his attitude was so bad that my boyfriend actually asked him "what's with the attitude? I'm not sure you and I have met before? Is there a reason for you to be so rude" and the man started yelling over him saying "we're doing somethin" and "I just asked you to be seated" and going on and on. The problem with them is that they are useless. I wanted to report a stolen item. When I called all they said is to go back to the place it happened or do it online. Therefore, I did the report online on Wednesday and didn't get a respond till today to go to the station to personally report it. The reason it couldn't be processed cause it exceed more then $2,000. Mind you I get there and the lady at the front couldn't assist me cause she said she did not know how to fill out a report. I have to report to work this same day and will be out of town for the next four days. I asked her if there is anyone else that can help me. The second officer said the same and said he couldn't help me. I don't understand how you can send me an email to go to a certain station and have people that are not train and incapable to help to fill a police report! All they said was to just go to Flagler and get it done there. I mean if that was the case I wouldn't have gone here and wasted my time coming to this station where pretty much they are useless. I came into the Southern District department in SW 211 st for a copy of a report. The officer at the window was very rude and gruff. As I waited for my report another person came in who didn't speak English. That same officer told her to "figure it out". When you work in the public sector you work and serve at the pleasure of the public. Officers shouldn't forget that. Especially those who are providing customer service at a window. read more
