We take a seat and check out the all day breakfast menu. Mum and I were not disappointed with our iced chocolates and vegetarian breakfasts'. From what i've been told, the whole family helps run and make all menu items as well as hand making scrumptious looking cupcakes. The vintage feel creeps through with funny 1950's posters lining the walls. "Unattended children will receive and espresso and a free kitten" had to be my favourite. The other detail that really impressed me was the "what happened on this day in 1950?".. this was a compilation of all the events that happened on 'this day' 64 years ago. How clever!! So much effort, so much heart, so much dedication. I will try my best to come here to support this business whenever I'm in Carina Heights. It's places like this that deserve recognition and a beautiful, successful business.

The servings were heapful, and I'm impressed that we even had some of the sour cream and guacamole left over! Guacamole is very lemony, which I like. Staff were friendly and when I had enquired if they could make a "Dirty Chai" for me, the cashier checked with me by explaining what it is (shot of espresso coffee into a chai latte). Great! They have the menus on random tables so just grab one if you want to sit down and read it first before you order at the counter. Some bakery options, including a couple GF items (Byron Bay cookies, chocolate sticky date pudding, caramel slice when we were there).

The staff always acknowledge you with a warm welcome on arrival too. I think I've grown so accustomed to staff not making eye contact and ignoring me that great service come as a bit of a shock. Fortunately the service is backed-up with really great coffee. Every coffee also comes with a free bite-size brownie. These are delicious and my partner will often buy a few extra. I'm yet to try any of the other food on offer in their display cabinet. There is a real feeling of community at Backstreet Espresso. Michael has set-up a noticeboard where lots of local businesses have pinned their business cards. There are also lots of posters and flyers on the walls for upcoming local events. I like having a peruse while I wait for my coffee, if Michael or one of the friendly staff are too busy for a chat. As the name suggests, Backstreet Espresso is located in a nice quiet backstreet. So glad I spotted Nomad Espresso Bar on Old cleveland road, Carina today as I was driving past. It's only a small humble coffee shop but is perfect as it is. As soon as you walk in, the smell of coffee is floating in the air; and smells so divine. The owner originally opened a hair salon next door 6 months ago called Trendyss hair. But always had a love for coffee, and so decided to open this small shop, which has now been operating for 2 months. There's a small selection of sandwiches & cakes on offer as well as one of the most beautiful teas I've ever had from Chamellia tea. The peppermint tea in particular was refreshing & calming. Super smooth & soothing. I also had a long macchiato with a chocolate ball! Yum! The single origin coffee by Dramanti roasters was smooth; fruity with notes of watermelon as well as chocolate. Think red velvet biscuit with marshmallow inside. The staff are very friendly and helpful giving recommendations with regard to what might satisfy your craving when you've narrowed your decision down to two. Our food finally arrived after we enquired about it again. With a rushed apology, she set down our food and vanished. We enjoyed the food, it was very well presented and was super tasty. When we finished, our plates was immediately cleared away and we were asked if we wanted more coffees. All this happened while we were in deep conversation. After refusing further coffees, we were handed the bill without asking for it. This is a very rude thing to do, as the establishment is implying that we need to move on. As a person with a massive hospitality background, this is a big no-no in the industry. It is rude and leaves a sour taste in the customer's mouth despite the beautiful food. I cannot recommend this space, as they need to life their game with it comes to customer service. Food wise, not much to fault from my one meal. I later found out that my girlfriend frequent this place often and every time her servings have been bigger for the same dish.

The coffee, made from di Bella beans, is excellently pulled. There is no bitterness in the espresso and the beans are well balanced. If you can get in between 7.30-8.30am, the coffee comes in at an astounding $2 for the regular (single shot) size. Cold pressed iced coffees and iced chocolates are also available in the fridge. The place has a warm suburban feel, and the staff are exceedingly friendly. Despite being staffed by a single person, the service is prompt and quick. Dog friendly, though the dogs are kept outside.
