Well. I finally decided that it was time to cut my four-year-old son's curly hair for the first…read moretime. I love his coils, and I'd put it off for as long as I could. However, his curls were making him hot, and my husband and I agreed that I was time. We'd always said by the time he was four, so...! I finally searched Yelp for curly hair cut, and I landed on PREP. I wanted someone who could do biracial curly hair and someone who was good with kids. I wanted a salon experience for my son's first haircut. PREP had great reviews and Maria was mentioned multiple times. I Googled and found the website, and booking was super easy. The payment was also done online. PREP is located in the Town & Country shopping center, and while the center is busy, it's perfect for a haircut. You can run errands before or after your appointment! Anyway, we entered PREP AT 11:27. I saw reviews that being late was a big no, so we hustled to make sure we did not arrive past 11:30. The salon is clean. They have multiple chairs at at least two shampoo bowls. Our son was a bit hesitant and nervous, so he was shy and started to act up just a bit. Maria had a tablet on deck and that piqued his interest. We talked about the look we wanted to achieve and Maria gave some suggestions. I almost had a heart attack when his ponytail was cut, but I survived! Maria is calm, patient, and easy to work with. She cut his hair and then shampooed, conditioned, and styled his hair. When we asked for a few areas to be fixed, she obliged. I'm super happy with this experience, and I've found our go-to spot. Thank you, Maria!

After reading all the raving reviews about her I booked an appointment immediately. She took the time to explain what would work best with my hair type (somewhat fine, somewhat wavy, and long) and then proceeded to give me a fabulous haircut! Appointments can be booked directly through her, so give her a call and thank me later! 408-406-0232

She wanted layers and depth, but her hair is very fine and straight and we were afraid layering would make it look flat. I called Roshana because one of the other reviews showed pics of a woman with similar hair and the same "transformation" my daughter wanted. My daughter was thrilled with the results and Roshana took extra time to show her some styling tips. She was quick to respond to my phone call and we enjoyed our visit. We'll be back next time! (Note that Expressions doesn't have a central number to book appointments so you have to call the stylists at their own number. Makes it really hard for them to get new clients!)

Hair is a bit frizzy here, but the cut has grown out really well. I don't have to do anything but let it air dry.

My sisters and I are a one-salon trio - first it was Gary Manuel in Seattle (http://www.yelp.com/biz/hXohGww38ZW3VrKqpULk8A#hrid:yKb79WGnAdJ5SvSEThqK4w), and now it's Ben in Menlo Park. When we find a place, we stick to it, and after going through many many stylists in the area, we have finally found our place. Ben is just awesome. When I went in, early, he was sitting waiting, and he immediately got up and greeted me. Then I showed him what I wanted, and he took his time really studying my hair, judging to see how it would look. When he finally decided how to do it, he told me exactly what he was going to do and why. Then he put this deep purple cape on me, which made me feel like royalty. (would have gone so well with the purple Mohawk, dfens...) While he was cutting my hair, I didn't say a word, and he didn't either...he was quite intent on cutting. Actually, the only sounds I made were laughs when I started to realize how delighted I was going to be. But I totally appreciated the silence - the last haircut I had, the woman talked and talked and talked. Luckily a bunch of us girls were there, so we could all talk together, but we were seriously there for hours. Some housekeeping business: He's based out of European Styling Parlour in Menlo Park, but he's his own man - makes his own appointments, collects his own money, etc., so if you call the salon, they will refer you to his cell. So call him directly. And bring cash. So yes, HIGHLY recommended. I so wanted to make this the mother of all reviews for the sole reason to get him more business (I don't think he's been there long). But you can tell how enthusiastic I am, right? Go go go! You won't be sorry. Oh! And I didn't mention...he only charges $40! ...just put the pic up.
