I was looking for a DJ for my moms retirement party and spoke to Oscar who is the owner and founder of Dustherus. I had called a few other DJ's but after speaking with Dustherus I could tell that the other DJ's were not as professional. The depth of the conversation with other DJ's was: what type of genre they should play and how much they would charge me. I knew that I wanted someone who was going to be able to articulate my needs into more than just a "playlist" which is what most DJ's nowadays do. Rather than that Oscar spoke with me in detail about exactly what I wanted for my party. He took the time to ask me about specific songs, genres, the layout of venue and the age range of the audience. I was amazed at how precise and technical he had gotten. I was really impressed and surprised at how dedicated he is to his work. He told me that for a 4 hour party he would practice for weeks in advance for my event. My sister and I were so happy with how well the party went for my mom's retirement party!! My mom is still young at heart so we had everything from old school R&B to new school hip-hop. He helped me make mindful edits and suggestions as an unexpected injury almost sidelined the whole event. His team was so understanding at pivoting all throughout the day. There were so many last minute changes that took place. They were such great sports about everything. They were super patient, very professional when approached and helped me with every change up needed. All of my guests had a fabulous time with DJ Winston, spinning tunes and giving out light up sticks on the dance floor (that was a very nice surprise). Winston was so easy to work with. He arranged our playlist perfectly. Ben, our photographer, was really super! He helped us with staging, posing, checked for optimal angles and lighting. Did retakes on the spot if it wasn't perfect. I really appreciated that. All throughout the event, he was running around taking shots, double and triple checking my pre-set list of must have photos. He didn't miss a beat. During our event, I recall seeing him on the floor, behind the tables, by the back wall - I mean he was literally everywhere! I think he was more anxious than I, about the photos I said I wanted as he reminded me a few times that I didn't take the few shots that said I wanted. LOL (No worries Ben, you did it, we got them all)! And kudos to our photo booth attendant, Jeffrey. A man of very few words but he was patient and took care of 70+ guests in 4 hours. He manned the photo booth solo and it ran very smoothly. Between the multiple prints for each person and those re-takes, he was so quick. (Some of us were caught off guard so outtakes and retakes were indeed a thing). The 40+ teens definitely had a great time taking photos at the booth. All of our photos came out great. Choosing the photo layout and card design was actually the hard part - we took a bit of time to choose. Our guests really enjoyed the variety of props provided, you could tell the had fun with it. The prints/photos were some of the highest quality I have seen from a wedding! Tommy was great with the light setup and managing the photo booth! Following the wedding, we also received a photo gallery. The pictures were enhanced and everyone looked amazing in their shots. The day of our wedding, we were very impressed with our photographers. They arrived early, stayed…read morelate, worked hard, and were very congenial. Our guests appreciated their presence. When we got our photos a month and a half later, we were somewhat disappointed. There didn't seem to be a lot of great photos. Lots were dark; many were out of focus or mis-focused, and lots of key moments seemed to be captured at awkward angles--perhaps too much effort was placed on being inconspicuous. We didn't really get the sense that a lot of time was spent post-processing them, either. (We realized later that most of our favorite photos from their portfolio were on very bright days in all-white houses and professionally-lit reception halls. We wrongly assumed the beauty was captured via their execution.) I wouldn't say they were "bad," just underwhelming relative to even our tempered expectations. The most disappointing part came at the end. We tried hard to express our disappointment diplomatically. We asked the lead photographer to point out some of the photos he put extra work into so we could appreciate them or compare them to the raw photos, and we asked for some of the photos they had removed (due to focus issues, etc.) so we could maybe salvage parts of them ourselves if they captured a moment we wanted but missed. His responses were very defensive and unproductive. He said he spent lots of time on them, he insisted we were sent great photos, and that we don't understand working with a videographer and how that limited the angles they could get. We attempted to deescalate by clarifying that we were just trying to get the most out of the day without imposing more time on him, not to criticize or complain, but it was fruitless. He said he selected the best photos and only removed bad photos, then later contradicted that he had sent us all the photos when we requested the "bad" ones. In the end, he returned our tip (which we didn't want or ask him to do), and stopped responding to us without providing any of the material we requested. I get that asking to "show your work" can be insulting to a professional, but his response when we were just trying to make the most of the situation was anything but professional. I'm sure there are plenty of Bride- and Groom-zillas who will be much less understanding than we, and while the photos were a little disappointing, the final taste in our mouths gives me more reason to advise caution.
