Let me begin by saying that I work for a family eyecare practice, so I do understand the immense value of a small, family practice. I was a patient of Dr. Kessler's for 23 years. In that time the office stayed, quite literally, the exact same. No updates, no nothing. As of the last time I was there (roughly a year and a half to two years ago), they were still displaying x-rays on sheets in front of lights in the room. Health records are not kept electronically (I could see a list of my records from birth on a single sheet of paper in my file), which made transferring to a new dentist difficult, because the new office "had no idea what to do with these records the way they were sent."
When I did ask for my records to be sent over, it took WEEKS and multiple phone calls because apparently only one person in Dr. Kessler's office was able to scan and send the paper documents.
As someone who transitioned from child to adult at that practice, they also struggled to treat me like an adult. If they couldn't reach me the first time by phone call to schedule an appointment, they would call my mother immediately. Not only was this incredibly inappropriate and frustrating to both myself and my mom, but intrusive. Once, they even called me three minutes BEFORE my appointment time just to "make sure I hadn't forgotten." I was in the parking lot, walking in.
Lastly, I simply don't believe in the quality of care provided there. I can't tell you the number of sealants I had done and then redone on the same teeth, on consecutive visits. I had sealants done at my new practice in the last year with no issues whatsoever. Imagine that.
All of this to say that if a lack of advancement in technology, being patronized, and consistency to a fault is your thing, go for it. I'm sad to say that I'm so much happier at my new practice after only two years than I ever was with 23 years at the old one. read more
