Got to see this classic piece of art in the United Center. It happens to be a statue of His Airness about to make a slam dunk. The Michael Jordan Statue is actually one of Chicago's most famous in a city where there's tons of statues. A newer feature is that it's now inside the atrium. You can still get in free to see it at least Cool story of how it got made. It's been around for quite a while, ever since his first retirement. This was originally outside the United Center when it first opened, but after an expansion it was moved inside the new atrium the fans go through. Also here is the gift shop where you can get Bulls clothing and gear. There's no charge to get in when there's not a game or other activity happening. Have to see this piece of art. I suggest calling ahead. Call the Mad Store to see if the statue is available for viewing. I was in chicago visiting and had my days planned out and we headed to the United Center on Sunday afternoon to view the statue, but of course it was closed. When I asked security why it was closed he said "because Michael Jordan isn't important today" HA HA HA, funny. Not. Apparently they were decorating for Halloween inside the arena and around the statue so it was closed to the general public. This was extremely annoying since I drove out of the way and it was my last day. So learn from my mistake, call ahead just to make sure you'll actually get to see the statue. read more

There's an awesome statue that is a must see when you are in Chicago. Even if you are not a basketball or a sports fan I mean it's Michael Jordan hereby knows who it is he is considered to be the greatest basketball player of all time and I would agree to this. Just want to help others who are looking for the statue. Go to the corner of Madison & Wood and look for Parking lot H. Pull up to the gate and press the call button. Speak up to say that you would like to see the statue. The security staff will let you in for no cost. We were so pleasantly surprised. Come in to the west most gate. You'll just need to go through a metal detector. The security staff were friendly. "The best there ever was. The best there ever will be." A quote found right underneath the Michael Jordan statute at the United Center. The statute is no longer located outside the arena but is now placed inside the East Atrium at the United Center. We came here straight from the airport on a Friday morning around 9:30am and the United Center was open. Contrary to what I saw on their website (no backpacks and no selfie sticks), they allow backpacks and selfie sticks on non-game days. There is just a security checkpoint where they make you remove your jacket and bags and cellphones. We came on a non-game day while the Bulls were away and parking on a Friday morning was FREE. There is a parking lot directly where the statute is located. The Chicago Bulls & Blackhawks store is located where the statute is but opens at 10am. We took photos and waited til the store opened. It was pretty cool because they have Bulls memorabilia, a life size trophy and a mini Bulls basketball court for kids (although my husband still went on it). We came to Chicago because my husband is a huge Michael Jordan fan and we drove here straight after visiting MJ's home about 30 minutes away from here. I would recommend checking it out, going to this statute then grabbing lunch at Michael Jordan's Restaurant in Oak Brook! read more

The Michael Jordan Statue is one of the coolest things in Chicago. Everyone should see it up close at least once.

This statue isn't public art. You need to buy a ticket to get into the building. I couldn't even do that because there was a special event happening. Maybe I'll catch it the next time I'm in Chicago and update my review. read more

Funny, a lot of these photos showed it outside, but when we realized it was inside, it was because they build a building around the statue to extend the stadium. As a first timer in Chicago, this was one of the "must-see" destinations, especially if you're basketball fan. The statute is next to a little gift shop store with a bunch of hockey and basketball gear and souvenirs. You will have to go through security check point before you get a chance to take a photo next to Michael Jordan. It was pretty simple and fast, so just place all items in your bag or bring out any electronics for the guard to see. Other than that, definitely a must see & highly recommend others to check it out! I only came here because my God son is a huge Bulls fan. (Gooooo Lakers) We traveled from Las Vegas & California and his one request was to see the G.O.A.T. Michael Jordan statue. I did read online that they removed the statue from outside and moved it inside and you can see it if the United Center is open. I was scared that he wasn't going to see it because I called the location and was on hold for OVER 1 HOUR. No joke really, I was on hold that long :( so I just hung up. I just took a leap of faith and drove down there our last day of our trip which was a Monday around 1pm. To our luck "it was open" and my munchkin was super excited. What made it worth it was... NO PARKING FEE to go here. (Omg I spent an arm and a leg parking in Chicago) yes I'm not lying. Parking was free!!!!! When we got inside, the face on my God son's face was priceless. As much as I'm a die hard Laker fan, it was great to pay respect to the legend MICHAEL JORDAN! The Bulls gift shop was open so I had to get my God son something since it was his birthday. He ended up wanting a Chicago Bulls hat that costed me $55 dollars (same hat can be bought at LIDS + you can get a second one for half off lol I'm just saying) I bought my bestfriend a Bulls Shot glass and lanyard for his Keys. Totally cost of my purchase $98. Well it wasn't that bad considering I didn't have to pay for parking lol This is totally worth seeing when in Chicago. Just be carful cause it isn't located in the best park of the city. read more

If you're a fan of basketball, Michael Jordan, is the man, and coming here was super cool. Growing up during his airness era, taking pictures here felt like I was on holy ground, a must for those into basketball and who believes that he is G.O.A.T. This statue was previously outside, but has been relocated indoors for a few years now. To see the statue, you'll have to enter through one of the open atriums that has a guard and a security point, and can roam freely through the lobby area. It is accessible during business hours on the weekdays. The Chicago Bulls shop is also open and has a lot of sick apparel. read more

Words can't express how disappointed my friends and I were when we found out that the statue of "His Airness" was unavailable for public viewing. This was one of the top three destinations for a friend and I who are California natives who grew up watching basketball during the Jordan era. We ran into many other tourists ready with their Jordan gear to pose next to the statue of the GOAT, only to be disappointed that it was unavailable due to a private soccer event taking place... withholding something this iconic from the general public is like withholding a national monument from public viewing... straight up wrong. read more

MJ statue was one thing I was looking forward to the most while visiting Chicago. I couldn't wait to get a glimpse of the statue. Playing basketball from a kid up to college, Jordan was one of my idols growing up. Taking pictures and embracing the statue was priceless! MJ is the G.O.A.T of basketball. The statue is located on the back side of United Center (inside gate). There are a lot of visitors daily. I went early evening on a weekday (Friday). The 22 layer cake was the worst, that made it a 23 layer because of a slice of dry chocolate .
