Basically you can review just about anything. If you're curious about this attraction, just know this fountain ain't shit! Shit Fountain is actually a pretty popular destination though. Pretty much it's what it says it is. There's not much to do around it except get pictures. A pretty basic looking fountain except for the sculpture of a big turd in it. It's like the fountain is on the property of the apartment so it's not meant for big crowds or gatherings pretty much. The fountain is actually pretty small so you could pass by it without noticing it or any shit. A pretty simple piece of art. There's not much to it to be honest. Good thing is it's not real shit so it doesn't smell bad. It's in a residential area of Ukrainian Village. This is at the intersection of Augusta and Wolcott. read more

5 stars because this fountain was unique and so realistic that I was grossed out by it. It really is a unique work of art located amongst a nice little neighborhood. I personally can't imagine walking to my apartment or house every day passing by the shit fountain without making a "yuck" face but it definitely brightened our day and made us laugh. A hidden gem in the Windy City! When visiting, I wanted to see the most obscure thing. It was the dead of winter and at night, but I still wanted to see it! At dark, it was a bit harder to find. The water was frozen too. I believe the owner built it to remind people to pick Ho their pet's poop when they're walking them. I wish there was one in every city! Nice fountain, it was such a pretty brown. Very healthy specimen, it looked kinda like creamy chocolate ice cream. Made me want to get a spoon and dig in. Very disappointed, something so beautiful that made me want to stick my nose right in the meddle if it. Had the smell of nasty water and not what the fountain resembles from its pile. I found out about this spot on TripAdvisor, and it was in my bookmarks. I was out in the neighborhood that night and after a few drinks I insisted to get this statue fountain off my bucket list. My local friend totally knew where it was, and we managed to have the uber wait a bit until the appropriate picture was taken. I guess the main difference in Chicago is that it resides on top of a fountain. This definitely isn't The Art Institute of Chicago, but it's free and the sheer size of the monument is probably inspiring...to someone out there. OBJET D'FART If the old adage states that one man's trash is another man's treasure, then perhaps one man's poop statue can be another man's prized possession. This [belated] April Fools Day review may come across as crude, inappropriate, and -- if I'm lucky -- might even offend some. But I was bored on a Saturday, so yeah, we're doing this doody....deal with it! In honor of the unofficially recognized holiday, I really tried to find something out of the ordinary to Yelp. So I made my way into Ukrainian Village on the first weekend in April in the hopes of witnessing some truly crappy protest art. When I finally located this unusual object just north of the intersection of Augusta & Wolcott (a 1-way street), I stood transfixed by what I saw before me: a rather large quantity of bronzed feces. It sat dormant in early spring, a reminder of what was once a glorious mound of poo, now tragically aged and corroded. Perhaps it was because of the season during which I "visited", but when I stopped by there was no trace of running water.....which transformed a normally dynamic excreta sculpture into a dormant dung pile. Sucks. The fountain's mesmerizing effect was both strong and unwelcome, as I found myself sprinting for the car sensing an impending bout of the hershey squirts. I began to wonder: was it doodoo voodoo? The angry spirit of the artist exacting his gastrointestinal revenge on unsuspecting tourists?? Legend has it that the ghost of the twisted individual who created this piece -- one 'Jerzy S. Kenar' -- haunts those who don't pick up after their dogs. The fable also mentions that in seeking inspiration for this fecal figurine, the artist blasted Green Day's 'Dookie' album on repeat. If you found this review immature and horrifyingly distasteful then my job here is done. If you found it 'useful' and/or 'cool' then you're just as demented and corrupted as I am; for that sirs and madams, my butt salutes you with a raucous Bronx cheer! Five stars for originality and cheeky PSA-like statement, -1 star for functionality and cleanliness. Would I recommend, though? I dunno, this sh*t's pretty weird. read more

Poop sure has come a long way. I never would have imagined that we would have things like poop emojis, poop plush pillows and a poop fountain? Go figure! I finally made it out to see this after seeing it on a few followed Yelp pages. Hehe, a Yelp page for this? From the pictures I saw prior to visiting it looked surreal and could have passed as the real deal. I do not think that the creator expected that this would have blown up the way it did. But if you have an obsession for shit, or having a shitty day, why not stop by the shit fountain to brighten up your mood. The 'Shit Fountain' was created and installed by Polish Chicago artist Jerzy S. Kenar. And meant for all the community to remember to pick up after their dogs. As one that loves to run or walk the neighborhood or trails, it is bothersome seeing that someone did not pick up after their dog while out walking the neighborhood or trails. I do not think some realize the importance of picking up after their dog, but unfortunately some must be reminded with things like signs, or a fountain statue of shit. If you live outside of its neighborhood, getting to the 'Shit Fountain' is not an issue if you utilize a GPS! Holy shit, there are actually reviews for this place!? I can tell everyone on Yelp about how awesome this little fountain is? SWEET! Back in the fall of 2008, I used to live in a huge apartment on the corner of Wolcott and Chicago (then the apartment building burned down and I had to move out -- it was in the news -- true story). Whenever I walked to Division (nearly every day), I'd pass this unique little sculpture. At the time, I was well-known in my little circle of friends for saying, "Everyone Poops." I even had the children's book. I still do -- along with "The Gas We Pass" and another book on how to decode your poop for some light bathroom reading. And a blog called "Everyone Poops!" (It's not there anymore.) So... poop defined me. Therefore, this fountain was pretty much the icing on top of the [shit] cake for me. I loved showing it off! And I'm thrilled that other people love it too. Who knew that shit could make me happy? read more

I find it to be much more rewarding. So while visitors flock to the Williams Tower & "The Bean", I prefer to see things like Maxwell Street, or The Shit Fountain. Conceived, sculpted, and installed by artist Jerzy S. Kenar, the fountain serves as a reminder to his neighborhood to clean up after their dogs. Frankly, that's all there is to it. So, what makes this worthy of visiting and viewing this oddball installation? In addition to this, you can usually view other works by Kenar, found in and around his studio- all of which are works of beauty and wonder. This came up. I have to admit... I'd never heard of the Shit Fountain before. 'Could it possibly be real' I wondered. I got the kids in the car and I plugged the coordinates of this mystical sight into the GPS. I told them we were gonna see something cool. I didn't tell them exactly what it was. It was going to be a surprise. 'This better not be like that time you took us to see all the Dutch windmills in Illinois in one day dad' one of them chided. They're still bitter about that. 'I hope it's not some historical marker or something like that either.' I only told them that I was gonna take them to see something like they had never seen before. Parking the car I gathered them up and crossed the street... When they saw it their jaws dropped... they looked at each other and one of them said... 'dad... you're an idiot.' Followed by... 'I'll be in the car' and 'me too.' I thought it was kinda edgy though. I heard that it's a piece of protest art created by a guy who got sick of people not cleaning up after their dogs. I thought maybe it was a commentary on the state of Chicago politics. Regardless... it was a very quiet drive to the Chicago History Museum after that. 'This better be a real museum dad.' Here's what's awesome about this gem of place: It's poop and it's bronze. No trying to Decipher the "Meaning" of it... It's right there clear as day "Shit Fountain" If you look at the actual gallery though, you'll find a large wood carving of an angel, not as fun as "Shit Fountain" but, a work of art nonetheless.
