He was helpful and responsive throughout the process of selecting and deciding on the design, purchase and shipment, and installation and follow-up. In addition to their master craftsmanship, Andy and Scott are pleasant and personable. We couldn't be happier with the outcome of this project, which we feel would have been much more stressful without Upright Interiors. As a bonus, the price they charged was reasonable and we feel it was money very well spent because everytlhing was done right and the result is stunning.

Some of those include Persian rugs, found where else, but Persia. And recently when I needed one of those acquisitions trimmed and cleaned, where else to go, but Baseer's in Larchmont. First of all, people come to me because of my deep knowledge of surplus equipment and the market value for key components needed to launch insurrections. And people go to Baseer's because of their knowledge of the finely woven market. But here's another even better reason to go. It's a family business. And the best businesses are a family business. Your first time being there you may see Baseer's wife. May even see their kids studying and talking. And then what you should also know that you won't learn in an ad or elsewhere is that Baseer goes the extra mile. When I called late on a Saturday after he had left the store and closed it, when I was in need of the carpet for that evening, Baseer heard it in my voice and went back, got my trimmed and cleaned carpet and brought it to my home. Wow. Now that's Customer Service at its's best. Not some 1-800 treatment. It's like, when I asked my friend, if the Chinese takeout restaurant down the block from his store was any good? He said, "I don't know. But the same family has been running it for more than 10 years, so it must be pretty good." And that's all you need to know about Baseer's Rugs. The same family run store. For Years. In Larchmont.

I took three Persian rugs to this store for cleaning. Two came out fine, but one was returned with…read moreripples (see picture). I left the rug on the floor for a few weeks hoping the ripples would settle, but they did not. I asked Baseer to take a look and fix the issue, but he denied that the rippling had anything to do with the washing--which is simply not true, as the rug was perfectly fine beforehand. He then charged me an additional $175 to "fix" the rug, but he was unable to do so. The rug still has ripples, and now it is also stretched out of shape (see pictures). When I confronted him about the poor quality of work, instead of taking responsibility, he repeatedly accused me of lying, raised his voice, and even said he never works with people of my background and nationality. This was despite the fact that I had already paid for his poor service and was only voicing a legitimate concern about customer service. To be fair, Baseer's prices are reasonable, but that is probably the only positive thing about his business. Unfortunately, the rug in question had deep sentimental value for us, and now it has been ruined. All he did was accuse me of lying while charging me for services he did not properly deliver. Absolutely terrible customer service. Stay away at all costs.

REVISED: We hired SMI last year and are extremely disappointed with the result. While we liked the…read moredesign concepts presented, the execution was a disaster. We experienced repeated problems with pieces that were improperly sized / not measured or scaled correctly for the space including counter stools, light fixtures, sofas and rugs. This resulted in several items needing to be returned due to improper sizing / scale. We approved pieces under the presumption that the team accurately measured the space and verified that the items selected were appropriately sized and scaled for the room and other pieces. The issue with scaling and selection appropriately sized pieces was so significant that we had to alter an agreed room layout as the pieces selected would not allow for the design to be executed. Some Additionally, I voiced concern that a selected item would not fit through a narrow doorway and was assured the measurements were checked and not a problem - the piece was delivered and was not able to fit into the room without being disassembled and reassembled. Just two of several instances of incorrectly sized pieces. The pieces received are not to scale of what was represented in design plans. We hired an interior designer for their expertise and the ownness to ensure the items selected are appropriate in size and scale should not fall to the client. Additionally, the contract states SMI would blue tape all pieces prior to ordering to "triple" check the measurements. THIS WAS NOT DONE. Had this been done, many of the sizing / scaling problems would have been apparent. The quality of some of the pieces were poor and vendors would not remedy. We have one piece that cracked at the joints within 6M of delivery. The vendor offered a small amount for repair and would not recognize the defect of the product. Prior to hiring SMI, I inquired about quality and customer service (as this was very important to us) and I was assured dealing with their vendors was excellent. The project was extremely off the agreed upon timeline due to lack of response from the team. The project ended without us getting everything in the contract (finishing touches, window treatments, care manuals) and missing pieces that were not reselected.

SMI did a bedroom project for us and we were delighted with the results. Our bedroom closet remodel and room refresh were beautifully designed and executed on time and within our budget. We plan to use SMI for an upcoming kitchen project next year.

In my experience with other companies, the initial consultation is generally free. But more important, I was not told of the fee, did not receive a call or email about it, and instead was referred to a collection service. These were installed but were defective. He never made any attempt to correct the situation. I ordered two doors for a closet and bedroom and paid for them in full ($1000). They never installed them despite having charged my card and making multiple appointments to do so. In addition he never even called to cancel the appointments. Just a lot of no-shows with no response to my texts or phone calls. Very unprofessional I received a refund for the doors of $900. When I questioned Sam he said I would receive the additional $100 in a few days. I never did. But he was quick to charge my credit card (without asking permission) I might add. I cannot in good faith recommend this company. However, if you are into stress, wasted time and effort, this firm is for you. Otherwise do yourself a favor.
