Just discharged yesterday from Dr. Miao's care after knee arthroscopic surgery for torn meniscus 5 weeks ago. I've always used the Desert Orthopedic Center for any personal ortho needs. I've worked in the past with several of the physicians there over the past 30 years as an RN and consider them the best in the valley. Dr. Miao is outstanding in the fields of shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle care specialties. His professional credentials are very impressive, including his commitment to various sport organizations in the area and worldwide. He is also on staff at UNSOM and Touro to help educate and train medical students. His care is professional, personalized and tailored to always allowing the patient to be a partner in their health care needs and outcomes. Rude, arrogant and abrupt in his manner. When examining my fiance's shoulder which has muscles separated from the bone, this doctor caused him to scream in pain. Dr.Miau diagnosed my fiance as having bone spurs and automatically referred him to physical therapy WITHOUT looking at his MRI, which according to my fiance's referring physician, revealed a massive separation between bone and muscles, requiring surgery. That is why the referring physician sent my fiance to an orthopedic surgeon. Physical therapy exercises would only exacerbate the medical problem and prolong what needs to be done: Reattachment surgery! We will not be returning to this guy. read more

Arrogant doctor. I was shocked at how careless he was. Finally got in last month to get help for my shoulder and felt dismissed and unheard. While the doctor diagnosed osteoarthritis and recommended physical therapy and possibly a steroid injection, he did not take the time to explain his reasoning or answer important questions. Cold and rude. When I asked why an MRI wasn't necessary, I was given no meaningful explanation. I also asked how to manage the pain while waiting for physical therapy, but received no guidance on medications, dosages, or other pain-management options.When I explained that I had lived with arthritis for years but that the pain had recently become unbearable, his response was simply, "Yeah, that's how it goes," accompanied by a shrug. It came across as dismissive and lacking compassion. At the end of the visit, he said these were his recommendations and that we could "take it or not," as he walked out the door. He didn't discuss when to follow up--we had to ask--and he didn't even say goodbye. Most disappointing was the complete lack of empathy or acknowledgment that I was in significant pain. Good communication and compassion are just as important as medical knowledge. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of both. I would not recommend this physician. read more

I went to see this doctor for a second opinion. I was told to bring any x-rays that were recently taken, yet when I arrived at the office, they told me I needed new x-rays. Which OK...I get that. When we got into the room, I told him all of my symptoms, that I was having a burning sensation in my knee, that I had done two rounds of PT already, I tried a steroid shot and gel injections, that this has been going on since March 2025, and I asked for a referral to get an MRI. He asked me why and insisted it was because of the arthritis. I told him it was keeping me up at night because it was painful. I asked if he could prescribe some 800s to help with the pain. He said just take four Advil...it's the same thing. He said I needed more PT. I left that office feeling like I received zero help and zero patient care or kindness. So if I could, I'd give this doctor a zero too. I'll never go back to him again. A doctor at Crovetti's office finally gave me a referral for an MRI and guess what, I have a tear in my meniscus. I knew it wasn't arthritis. Make sure you advocate for yourself and don't back down!! read more

Professional, care, friendly, definitely the best in town. Doctor Miao is a very experienced Orthopaedic doctor. His professional treatment resolved my problem in two days as he explained. His lead is agreed by my daughter who does body and IR imaging practice as her career. I am glad that we can always trust and go to his clinic for him to resolve any bone health issues. I don't understand why Miao has so many positive reviews. I was under his care for months and had a knee surgery with him. He's condescending and curt (which I was told by the people who referred me to him) which I didn't mind but his post-operative care was terrible. The worst I've ever had having 3 other surgeries in my adult lifetime. His assistant Rihanna is terrible too. I was definitely treated like a number with no actual feelings from him or Rihanna. My knee is worse off after the surgery and they act like the post-care is a nuisance. I was told he used to be great but he probably has too much involvement with treating the sport teams now and not much for regular patients. I'm with a new surgeon now and he questions why Miao did the knee surgery at all. Don't believe all the good reviews. read more

I went to Mr. Miao for left knee pain and he diagnosed it as a torn meniscus, I thought it was an easy fix, not with Mr Miao doing the surgery. After the surgery he made my left leg straighter than my right leg which caused knee pain and hip pain and give me a limp. He examined me again and saw what I was complaining about and ordered more physical therapy, after a while it got so bad I could hardly stand up without pain.... So Mr. Miao said it was arthritis and said I will need a KNEE REPLACEMENT!!! are you kidding me!!!! I said NO!!! I'll get someone to correct it and that was it and if I see this guy ever again it will be too soon. Avoid Mr. Miao at all cost, I refuse to call him a doctor... thanks for the pain and the limp. read more

Friendly and efficient support staff. Most forms were dealt with on line in advance so very little paperwork on arrival. For my first appointment I was seen at the appointment time and the doctor and his assistant seemed very interested in helping me. We had a thorough discussion and Dr Miao answered all my questions. He is patient and attentive and encouraged me to address issues I have overlooked for years. In contrast with other specialists I have seen, he did not rush the consultation and made me feel I was not wasting his time. The second appointment, I arrived early but was not seen until more than one hour 15 minutes after the appointment time. It would've been nice to have some acknowledgement of how long I waited. That said, the office staff was again very helpful and promptly followed up with referrals to other specialists so I still recommend them, I am just hoping that next time the wait in their reception area is not so long. read more

I came in with RT Shoulder pain and bruises he ordered several x-rays of shoulders and neck. Then ordered MRI of neck not my SHOULDER I felt he put money in their group. I explained it's not my neck. He was very vague as to what the x-rays said about my shoulder never giving me a diagnosis after reading x-rays. Then told me to find a neck Doctor in his group. Well Doctor Bassewitz was great and to the point diagnosed and explain nothing was wrong with my neck MRI looked great and said Dr. Miao said I had impingement. Well he never TOLD me otherwise I'd never got NEEDLESS MRI OF NECK FIRST. Dr Bassewitz he'd ordered MRI of my shoulder. Yes I had a partial tear and bone spurs why he did not see that is interesting. I'm very disappointed with Dr. Miao exam. I guess he spread My hard earned money around I trust the Group just not him. read more

I worked at UCLA Medical Center for 15 years including the orthopedic dept before moving to Vegas and believe me I do my homework researching physicians throughly before seeing them. Dr Miao is very professional, spends the time answering all questions, and has great bedside manners. I've seen a lot of great Drs in my time and Dr Miao is at the top of my list. Being a diehard true blue bruin the only issue I had was he attended USC, but we can't all be perfect lol. read more

Surely must be in the extreme top tier of Surgeons in his specialty in the Las Vegas/Henderson area. He is very highly skilled and uses up-to-date practices and procedures. He spends as much of his time as may be necessary for both he and his patient to be satisfied that they are on the same page with regard to treatment and outcome expectations. Horrible doctor! You will spend hours waiting to see him. Yes, hours! Not only did I wait hours to see the doctor, he ordered x- rays and did not even look at them! It took finding another doctor to see that I had a bone spur in my shoulder. Miao is a complete quack. read more
