Disappointed and Dismissed - A Cautionary Tale About Family Medical Specialists Nobody in the medical industry seems to care that my knee hurts. After being brushed off by a previous doctor who chalked my pain up to vague "inflammation," I turned to Family Medical Specialists in Plant City, hoping for better care. What I got instead was a frustrating and disheartening experience. A day before my appointment, a staff member called and asked me to contact United Health to designate Dr. Gimness as my primary care physician. I followed instructions and made the necessary call. But when I showed up for my appointment, the front desk refused to let me see the doctor--because, according to their system, United Health hadn't processed the change yet. Despite my obvious knee pain and visible frustration, the receptionist was indifferent. I was turned away. I left, disheartened and still in pain. A week later, I received a bill for a "No Show"--even though I had been sitting in their waiting room on time, ready for care. I immediately contacted both United Health and Dr. Gimness's office. To their credit, United Health attempted to resolve the error. But the staff at Family Medical Specialists showed no interest in correcting it, and to this day I've received no outreach or apology from Dr. Gimness himself. Instead, I continue to receive duplicate bills for an appointment their own staff denied me from attending. If this is how Family Medical Specialists handles a simple scheduling error, I shudder to think how they'd handle something serious--like an amputation. If you're looking for care that's responsive, compassionate, and competent, I suggest you look elsewhere. My knees still hurt--and nobody at Family Medical Specialists seems to care. read more

Long term patient...the Dr and staff are always friendly and caring. Dr Gimness keeps me healthy.

Find another doctor they don't care about patients I selected this office looking for a better doctor and had an appointment on Jan 13th Mrs Newman had to cancel due to an emergency so it was rescheduled for the 22 when they canceled on me I told them I needed my blood thinner refilled due to a previous stroke they didn't seem to care and told me to call the pharmacy and get an emergency supply so I tried and the pharmacy couldn't do that so I ran out days before the next appointment so I went in the 22nd following the text I received multiple time request me to show up 15 mins prior to fill out paperwork the day of the appointment the paperwork was sent to me before to fill out which I did have so I showed up to my appointment and was told That they told me that I needed to show up 1 hr before my appointment now I don't know if they told my insurance company that scheduled the appointment or not but I wasn't told about needing to be there 1 hr prior why 1 hour ? so after canceling on me twice and leaving me without a blood thinner to possibly have another stroke I came to the realization that they really don't care about patients Mrs Newman needs to find another profession she shouldn't leave patients tk have to go to a emergency room for a prescriptions horrible horrible horrible place ! read more

I had to visit this doctors office for a business purposes,but I was amazed at how involved there were with the patients. They know everyone by name and would help their patients with anything that they could assist with, like transportation, finding them resources to help with food, bills and other community outreach programs. I have never seem a doctor's office that was so caring about their patients. read more

Dr. Gimness started as a client. I was so impressed at how he cared for his patients. He talks directly to you and seems more like a long time friend from High school than a physician. He is worth the 1 hour commute to be my.primsry care physician. He takes time and is always willing to listen and can answer your questions in a way can u detained them. He knows how to save you money on prescriptions and is always willing to talk about your concerns and questions. His staff is very friendly and you can get your immunizations and most procedures completed in the office. Dr. Gimness is a physician I would want to care for me and my extended family and can recommend him whole heartedly! read more

Dr Gimness seems to be a good doctor but his back office staff is lousy! Billing is inaccurate, medical records contain items out of the blue like they were copied from Wikipedia and administrative follow up is more "fouled up" than "followed up". His front office people seem very friendly and courteous but this is not a church, it's a medical practice. Trying to talk to his back office people is a challenge if not impossible. They hide behind voice mail messages not to be contacted directly. Bad, bad, bad sign! Your health should be in the hands of a good doctor and not subject to bureaucrats in the back office messing things up. We have enough of that from Washington! read more
