Rosen's gallery was located on Prince Street. These days, most of the top galleries like Gagosian and Bonakdar's are located in Chelsea. But I kind of miss the old SoHo days, and the atmosphere in Chelsea is totally different - almost like another world. Most of all, I miss Rosen's SoHo gallery. When I visited, she came out from the back and discussed the artist whose work she was exhibiting at the time, Miguel Calderon. I remember really liking his work. She also simultaneously showed the work of Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle. I read somewhere that Rosen has donated her archives to the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art. And while she no longer appears to have a physical gallery, it seems like she still represents (the estate of) Felix Gonzalez-Torres. Honestly, I wish she would reopen the gallery at some point. Rosen and her perspectives on art were a huge inspiration years ago.

It's very generous--I got a full tour of a fascinating show, "Counter Forms," with works by Tetsumi Kudo, Alina Szapocznikow, Paul Thek and Hannah Wilke, all of whom worked in different parts of them world, died youngish and were forgotten in the 90s but making a comeback now. And they deserve it: weird materials and biomorphic forms, industrail waste and synthetic pigments, intriguing use of slightly sickening colors and textures--a fertile mix of mad-science lab and contemplative poetry that seems to speak to the ways in which artists are dealing with the relationship between bodies and technologies now. Usually Andrea Rosen has a few shows up at once - a big one in the front, medium in the middle, and a selection of works by different artists in the showroom in the far rear, which means you're guaranteed to find SOMEthing to like on any given visit. For 'Counter Forms," however, the whole gallery was devoted to this single group exhibition. But it's definitely worth it! so much to see. There is also a small appendix across the street. I feel like the narrowness of this space makes it slightly awkward. It's smaller than any of the spaces across the street, even the little showroom in the back. I haven't felt really impressed or moved by a show here yet but, it's new so maybe they'll get the hang of it (no pun intended!).

The gallery is centrally located on the ground floor in Chelsea. Natural light and unimpeded wall space provide ideal viewing of photographs ranging from small photobooth prints to monumental museum-sized pieces. Respect for the medium is immediately apparent. The stable of represented artists is lengthy but includes Mickalene Thomas and Julius Shulman. Recent gallery-based exhibitions and presentations at Untitled and the Armory include recognizable mainstay artists like Larry Sultan, Sharon Core and Ori Gersht; Rachel Perry and Hellen van Meene, too many talents to list. Jared Bark has been shown in the gallery after many years of exposure limited to only collectors in the know, prompting a re-examination by curators and art historians. Focused exhibiting of artists newer to the scene, but no less important, like Zanele Muholi, document socially important concepts of race, gender and sexuality in her native South Africa. History and aesthetics perfectly merge through the gallery's own lens. The Gallery should be a must-see at any tour of Chelsea. Likewise, it's a gallery to seek out during the important art fair weeks in Miami and NYC. On a personal observation, the entire staff is professional and polite. The namesake, Yancey Richardson, loves what she does and her genuine passion is immediately apparent. She is easily engaged in a conversation about the artists, art works, the process and the medium. Similarly, Director, Sarah, is equally happy to provide information and quick to provide insight and information. I've enjoyed seeing the gallery exhibitions and art fair presentations; and, personal acquisitions have been easy and exciting experiences.

I never want someone to be turned off art by the attitude of some supercilious gallerist. Yancey Richardson is exactly the kind of rude, cold place to discourage a new collector. I was in there last week, and the receptionist (who was definitely NOT busy) does not even respond to "hello". It reminds me a bit of the restaurant in LA Story, only less chatty and they didn't run my credit. As far as I know.

I came to Andrew Kreps with great expectations as a fan of Darren Bader's work but this show--or…read morethree shows, he says it is--left me sighing with a tinge of melancholy. Bader is a sculptor, I would say, and what I've liked about his work in the past was the feeling of an organic synthesis forging a deeply resonant and closeknit connections among disparate objects, while employing unexpected materials such as animals, living plants, dead vegetables among images and products and the other usual elements of sculpture today. It's a really thrilling sculpture that electrified the space around it, making all the environment alive and me excited to be in it. Or it was.. now, in this show at Andrew Kreps, the materials are atomized, disconnected, and the space of the gallery is just ordinary gallery white space that's there to separate objects and set them apart from my life and life outside. The walls, floor, and air were there between things to isolate them from each other, and isolate me from them. It was a show of photographs and objects--photos on the wall, objects on the floor. (Already a significant separation, a categorization keeping everything apart in its own conceptual cubbyhole.) For the most part the photographs don't have a lot going on in them, or at least not anything that really caught my interest. They look like fashion shots or ads or stills from movies I wouldn't want to watch in full. And they are framed in black on white walls, very isolatory. The objects, as I said, are all on the floor, some of them are plain like a can of beans whereas a limited number are big and crazy--a panel printed with a weird text about celebrities along with collaged images, which appeared to be a full-fledged work of art in its own right, and a big plexiglass box with black rubber gloves reaching inward, perhaps a kinky torture chamber of some sort? These were interesting to look at but looking at them only reminded me of the plainness of all the rest of the objects, how little there was to link any of them together, just this analytical picking and choosing that just repeats what any gallery in Chelsea does instead of transforming it and making it a worthwhile space to be in.

Jessica greeted me when I entered. She gave me insight into the gallery snd Daido's work. Very welcoming atmosphere. There's not much to say. I like the artist style and enjoyed viewing his unpublished work from 1975-1978. If you want information you can find Yoshii Gallery on line. They advise anyone interested in the exhibit to call the gallery.

There are a mix of large and small works. Pieces feel finished and presented well for the viewer. Adequate level of appeal. STAFF Were not present. It's a contemporary art gallery, and it is definitely worth following to see if they have an exhibit you want to check out. This Leonora Carrington exhibit is worthy of a visit. She's a fascinating artist whose sculptural work hasn't been that easy to find in galleries and museums in the US until more recently. The gallery isn't large, and it's configured a little strangely (small boxy spaces). But it still might have some art that you'll regret not stopping by to see. I'm glad we stopped by.

The Forum Gallery is a gallery that has a location on two floors of the building. If you're in the area and want to come on up to the gallery and see some work there's no appointment necessary and it's not like walking into a high end retail store where you'll get funny looks because you don't look like the type to buy anything, they're used to people coming solely to check out the work. I was even able to take a wonderful promo package for the current artist's show.

Here you can find best realist and figurative artists of our times, usually the ones that take a few extra steps in their own direction. There is a wonderful gravitation towards surrealism in some works, and some works are just about here and now. My favorite artists represented in the gallery are Odd Nerdum, Gregory Gillespie, Nelson Shanks.
