There is nothing wrong with the balloons I ordered online from Michaels. However, DO NOT BUY BALLOONS THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE! I was told by a salesperson at the store that you can order balloons online at Michaels, and bring them in for inflation with helium. I assumed that Michaels works the same way as a grocery store selling and filling their balloons for the cost of the balloon itself. I thus ordered balloons for a baby shower from the Michaels' website. However, upon bringing them in for inflation, I was told by the manager that Michaels sold this set of 10 mylar heart balloons through a third party. Michaels will only inflate these third-party balloons for $3.00 a piece. This makes a simple mylar balloon cost now $6 each. The Michaels website reads: "Order online and pick up your pre-inflated balloons in store." They do NOT mention that inflation with helium is a hefty separate charge, or let you know that they do NOT inflate for free all of the ones they sell on the Michaels website. To compensate me as this is not a clear policy on their website, they gave me a $15 gift card towards the cost of the $30 helium charge. My advice: save your money and go elsewhere for balloons! read more

Yesterday I attempted to purchase silk flowers that were clearly marked 80% off -- for all spring and summer decoration. The register marked them at regular price. The attendant refused to listen, claiming that she couldn't do anything. Two other ladies behind me also carried similar flowers and we all inquired about the misleading signs throughout the store. The attendant refused to call a manager. We all left behind the intended items of purchase. Michael's at Albany is becoming a disappointment of shopping experience. Disheartened and disgusted. I needed help finding one product and asked a staff member for her assistance. She POINTED me to the isle where I could find what I needed. (This is after the first clerk POINTED me to the wrong isle). She personally escorted other customers and helped them with their items. I had additional questions about this product and couldn't find anyone else to ask and had to keep asking her. She kept brushing me off, told me she didn't know etc. I had my friend ask her and she was polite to her and told her exactly where the right product was. I am furious! I hate saying it but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and tried not to bother her. I was doing research on my own because I knew she was uncomfortable speaking to me. It was equally uncomfortable for me. She was cheerful with every customer (even my friend) but me. Guess what color I am?!? read more

This is my favorite Michaels' store! Everything is always so well organized throughout the entire store and I always find what I need. I mostly shop at Michaels for scrapbook supplies such as letters and stickers. This Michaels has the best selection of scrapbook supplies. Also, don't forget to check for coupons on their website (put in the zip code for the store you are shopping at) and use your teacher's ID for discounts! :) read more

I found myself in the store at 9 am opening. The store had a few other customers. I grabbed a cart, wiped down the handle and walked over to the narrow aisle of the floral section. An employee entered the aisle with a giant restocking cart and started stocking right next to me. I moved and a minute or two later she was on top of me again. I pushed my cart aside to give myself more room and stepped away. The next thing I know she is grabbing the handle of my cart and moving it. Totally negated the cleaning of the handle. It became clear restocking was taking priority over customer's shopping. There were 3 other employees also restocking. Really frustrating because if I want something in any store but an employee is already in that spot restocking I never crowd them and wait patiently for them to finish. I grabbed what I had, deciding it wasn't worth the risk of having this woman on top of me and walked over to the check out area. A single cashier was open and checking out a customer very slowly. There was a man standing behind another register scrolling through his phone. After 5 minutes I asked if he was open. He said no, I don't work here and he exited the store. It took the cashier another 5 minutes to finish up and when I approached the counter it became clear that the plexiglass was what was causing the slow down. Ok, I get it. Employee safety is a real thing. But the way this was constructed there was no way for her to access the items being bought unless she reached around and came out from behind the plexiglass. Seemed counter productive, but ok. What was frustrating was that after waiting my turn, she puts a finger up like ..hang on and then she takes a customer phone call for someone looking for something. Why would the only cashier waiting on live customers also take phone inquiries? So, I drove to the store to find my items, stood in line all the while really wanting to limit my time in the store because of Covid and this staff member thought the person calling to locate their item while sitting in the safety of their home was the priority rather than the customer standing in front of her. Complete lack of common sense and courtesy and the prices weren't great. read more

The never ending sale arts and crafts store! (They were actually prosecuted for always having a sale). Whether I'm looking for a photo frame, glue gun sticks, or colored pencils, I'm yet to find a better place in the Capital District. The selection is fairly good, and a 50% coupon is available at least a couple times a year, if you can wait. read more

I had artist Mark Landis turn a wedding photo into a beautiful canvas painting in the Impressionist style. Grace at the Albany, NY location did an amazing job helping me choose what frames and glass would look best. I picked it up today and couldn't be happier! I started shopping here during my brief, ill-fated card-making phase, and I keep going back. Well, mostly because if you're on the Michaels mailing list or get a Sunday newspaper, you get a 40% off one item coupon every week, so I stop in when I remember to buy one item for a future project. No one at this store acts like I'm the scum of the earth for doing so. I've always found the employees here nice. The store is clean and organized, not cluttered and chaotic as craft stores can sometimes be. I don't know a lot about other crafts, but they have the best embroidery section of all of the Capital Region's big-box craft stores, and good selections of paper crafting supplies and yarn. Not a great selection of needles, but better than the Walmart on the other end of the mall. read more

I had lent my house out while working in NY to someone at work so they could ski nearby, and they broke a diploma frame without telling me. It was scratched and had broken the glass completely. I took it to this store and they fixed it completely for about 76 bucks. They even fixed the scratches! The job was much better than the place I had it done initially and was done in a day. I will be using this store for my framing needs. read more

Michaels always has an online coupon. This one like others had lots of inventory but they never seem to have enough staff working so it can be hard to find what you are looking for. I am a big fan of their craft paper selection however. read more

This Michaels is spacious and has a wide variety of arts and crafts. Staff members and manager has always been courteous and very helpful.

Haven't even walked in here yet, already annoyed. I have no choice because they're the only michaels in the region that has the item I am looking for, but I'm not looking forward to it based on the phone conversation I just had. I called not realizing it was before 9am. if I had noticed that I would have waited because I wasn't trying to be annoying to anyone. Someone did answer the call, but after I explained that I was looking for an item and they were the only store who had it the woman on the phone said "yeah okay but we don't open until 9am. I can't go and look for it because I'm in the office." I recognize that she doesn't want to go above and beyond first thing in the morning, so I'm actually more annoyed that she answered the phone at all if she wasn't planning to help a customer. Now I feel embarrassed and don't want to go there later because she acted like I was a big inconvenience once already today. Don't feel like doing it again a second time! read more

This place is great. The product selection varies and covers a wide variety of things. They also always have 40% off coupons if you just need one thing this is always a good deal. Sometimes Joann Fabrics is cheaper but only by a few cents, just have to watch out for the best deal. Overall a really good store read more
