It is difficult for me to put into words the depth of my healing as a result of the care I received at Michael's House, but I will try. Located in lovely Palm Springs with a view of the mountains that is breathtaking, they are perfectly situated to provide the serenity needed for recovery. The counselors, therapists and nurses all genuinely cared for the residents and it showed it every interaction. I learned some incredible coping skills to deal with trauma in a way that was digestible for me. The daily regimen kept me busy and at first I was not a fan of it, but by the end of my stay I learned the deeper purpose behind it. The rules and policies were created to keep me safe from harm and to reinforce the focus I needed in order to be successful, and I was. Teresa L., Hubert, Shana, Annie D., Cynthia, Shelly, Tom, Karen, Donna and Sheila....well the entire staff created a space that helped me transform from a shadow of the man I was to the centered man I am today. The accommodations need a little sprucing up, but I witnessed ongoing changes when I was there indicating that like the rest of the world, they are regrouping post covid. I made friends at MH that I deeply cherish and I am grateful. Words fail to describe the depth of my gratitude, so the best way to say thank you is simply live the best life I can with the tools I now possess. A horrible place. Corporate America changed it into something really trashy and tragic. It used to be a foundation that was meant for doing good by the community. Michael Rosen and his mother are amazing even in memory. But the current incarnation of Michael's House is complete Trash completely adulterated and left me in such a state of trauma and disrepair. I will never forgive them. Be very cautious about sending anyone you love there. They are quick to leave displaced residence who are already damaged high and dry in the desert with no way home. The two remaining staff from the original clan are wonderful, but only there because they've been there so long that they can't really leave. Short of that, nobody stays there for more than 3 to 6 months on staff just a horrible place. With a horrible recidivism rate and they kind of count on that. This place was horrible. As soon as I get there, the staff member complains about how much luggage I brought, which was three bags. He tells me he's too busy to go through any of it. There were about 30 men and four women. Everybody was partying in the pool and it felt like a total joke. I told them I was tired and would like to go to my room because I was detoxing they put me in a room with a bed that was hard as a rock. I tried to suck it up and tell myself it's Rehab. It's not going to be perfect, but then I felt bugs crawling on me and I was actually picking them off. I went to the staff and told them and I could tell that got them bent out of shape. The whole facility seemed disgusting. If you want something to drink they have it locked up where you have to go into their office and ask, they have patience leading the groups which I find to be ridiculous. When I said I wanted to leave. They had a total attitude with me. I called for a Lyft and the poor driver had to take me back to the rehab because they had stolen my watch. When I walked in and asked about my belongings, I could see Rick's face drop. He said oh I have your watch and went out through a back door and came back about five minutes later with my watch. Also when I was leaving, I asked for all of my medication he walked it out. I was clearly pissed off. I asked him if that was all my medication and he said it was. I looked at it and said no that's not all of my medication I had Wegovy and it was in the refrigerator. He said yeah she put it in there. I said no it's not in there and he insisted that it was after a little back and forth. He walked back into the nurses office and came out with the box of Wegovy that would've been a $800 score for them plus my $500 watch. I don't really want to say anything badly about the people who might be seeking treatment there, but I will say as a female surrounded by a bunch of men who appear to be felons it's a bit intimidating. Why do I say that they their felons? Because a man with two teeth who was trying to hit on me, told me that he was from Oklahoma and he had just gotten out of prison after 16 1/2 years. read more

If you are serious about getting sober, Michael's house is NOT where you would want to be. The support you will be receiving will be minimal. Groups/classes are run by resident counselors who lack the necessary training, knowledge and experience. Most of them resort to just reading from a handout, and half of them don't even know the material they are teaching, as they keep mispronouncing key words, and get easily flustered or repeat the same words on the handout verbatim when asked for further explanation. I have witnessed instances when a client would share a profound or emotionally-charged experience, and it would be brushed off and ignored. Some resident counselors use group sessions as their own therapy sessions, and will go on talking about their private lives for 50 minutes unless interrupted (for example, the twice-weekly LGBTQ+ group led by Rick). The one licensed therapist who was great at her job, Theresa, gave notice and left the program, so I can only imagine how the quality of group sessions and programming will continue to deteriorate. The program topics are laid out in such a disorganized manner, which lends itself to multiple redundancies. For example, you will end up taking art therapy sessions where similar activities or sometimes the same activity is repeated on consecutive days. There were several days where the schedule was not followed at all. You will be taking a lot of "impromptu" classes like choosing your favorite sober song, during which songs of your choosing are blasted continuously for 50 minutes, or watching a sober movie that has nothing whatsoever to do with sobriety. You will be given a handbook with a lot of rules, but you can be rest assured that none of these rules will be enforced. Fraternizing is not allowed, but staff will be quick to turn a blind eye to ongoing romantic and other relationships. Meanwhile, given that clients come from varying backgrounds with a wide range of identities, life experiences, and ideologies, nothing is done to facilitate group cohesiveness. One client was allowed to lie down on three chairs with his pillow and sleep during every single session for the whole month that the person was there, which was a huge distraction, not to mention a complete eyesore. Yet a client who was still detoxing with active symptoms and on sedative medications was forced to attend sessions, because apparently insurance wouldn't otherwise cover for her stay. Talking of insurance, I was falsely informed that my insurance was out-of-network, and had I not spoken up, I would be owing them thousands of dollars right now. On my last day there, I was basically kicked out and forced to leave the facility by 7:10am, before breakfast was served, with an unfounded excuse that my insurance wouldn't cover for my stay that day, when in fact my insurance had preauthorized my stay to include my last day. At the end of the day, Michael's House is yet another treatment facility that operates under the guise of caring for the vulnerable, when in fact it is driven by profit and numbers. On a positive note, I have to thank Thomas, the patient care coordinator, who was supportive and helpful in finding a different treatment facility that would better support my needs. I have to give props to the kitchen staff for making excellent meals day in and day out, and for the nursing staff who showed care. I am submitting this document to detail my experience with Michael's House and to address concerns regarding clinical quality, staff training, role boundaries, and organizational culture. My goal is to support safe, ethical, and effective care for clients. I was employed there for a short two months, and this is my take. Staff appeared inconsistently trained on program criteria, scope of services, and handoffs between Admissions, Nursing, Recovery Services, and Operations. And what I mean is that in my experience, all declarations within all departments are made by the CEO, who, incidentally, is the worst micromanager I have ever seen. When I challenged her on Friday before I resigned on the following Monday, she responded via email with each calculated response in RED ink. As I read that nonsense, I thought, "It must have taken her two hours to craft this silly response". I noted variability in staff credentials and clinical competencies relevant to SUD and co-occurring disorders. At times, individuals facilitating groups or providing one-to-one support did not identify their credentials or scope of practice. Decision authority appeared to rest with the CEO rather than the designated licensed mental health professionals (LMHPs). This included decisions that, in my understanding require LMHP oversight (e.g., treatment plan revisions, risk stratification, and discharges related to mental health acuity and, dare I say, diagnosis because, in one instance, due to her ignorance clinically, she placed a client at increased risk of their pathology. It had to be due to her lack of clinical knowledge, because if it were not, that would suggest something of a nefarious nature, in my opinion. Day-to-day operations across Nursing, Admissions, Recovery Services, and Operations felt tightly controlled by the CEO, as evidenced in the endless email chains where she made many of the decisions. Staff interactions often seemed cautious and approval-seeking, which may indicate limited psychological safety. I observed her condescending tone to members of her Leadership Team, and I thought, "If she ever spoke to me like that....". Feedback from clients and line staff did not appear to be consistently welcomed or acted upon. One example is that the client rooms are locked all day, which prevents clients from using their own bathrooms. Although the clients requested access to their rooms throughout the day, the CEO's response was a resounding "no," citing corporate rules and episodes of sexual misconduct as the reason. Clients asked for tables in the room where they could write or journal, and again, no, "the dining room had tables". And for the record, I was the second licensed therapist there, so the description below citing Theresa as the only LMHP is not true. As for programming redundancy, I corrected most of that. The problem was that the staff did not want to follow the new schedule, were only interested in their own experience with recovery, along with a severely limited fund of knowledge. To that end, most of the staff identify as being in recovery, and I am not altogether sure that is a good thing because it seemed to me the level of some of that pathology was on par with the folks we are attempting to treat. Fox guarding the hen house comes to mind. Overall, there are many systemic and historical issues there. I believe the CEO has a personal agenda rather than a corporate one, based on the personal stories she shared with me. Complete scam raping insurance companies, it's a California vacation for repeated addicts from all over the country that insurance pays for. Their flights, their stay, it's a getaway for addicts who leave their kids behind to get a vacation and most of them fake that they need at least another 90 days so they don't have to go back to their children and be an adult. I know this firsthand they advertise the place as dual diagnosis for mental health. My parents spent $30,000 for a month because they were supposed to help me with depression and anxiety and insomnia. I ended up with PTSD after being there in pretty much lockup. NOT A MEDICAL DETOX FACILITY! I came here July(horrible I know they can't control the heat but DAMN). I was detoxing off fentanyl and Xanax. Kaiser was under the impression they were a medical detox. They were not. They admitted to not being one as I was leaving. I was put in a motel room with three other girls. I had a seizure night 5. I was not permitted to go to the hospital because my vital signs were stable when they checked. I wanted to go to the hospital just to escape. It's set up like a crappy motel, there is no way to get to staff except through the outside. And staff never checks on you if you're in detox. You have to go to them. Also, as I'm coming off of fentanyl so hard I'm crawling on the ground to the nurses station(outside in 125 degree heat), there's a fentanyl outbreak among 6 patients. No one got kicked out. Not surprising because without counting nurses, there were two staff members there for like 40+ clients. I was able to call my mom on day 3 and asked her to leave after day 5. On the weekends there were no phone calls. And you have to sign up for a time slot. BS man. She could not get ahold of anyone there. She drove all the way out to Palm Springs from Orange County just to be able to speak with someone. They wouldn't listen to me or give me access to a phone to try to transfer facilities. I have never felt so trapped and isolated and helpless. I am not exaggerating when I say this was a traumatic event. Just writing this is giving me so much anxiety. Apparently the food is really good. I don't know because I was too sick to eat anything. I am begging you, for the love of god, please don't go here if you need medical detox. Not very responsive. Conversation by phone with two different staff members regarding my family member going into treatment was rushed, short and uninformed. I made the decision to place him in another residential treatment center based on the two phone convos with Michaels House. I have to rate it a 1 but this treatment center is TRASH. They LIE to you to get you to go there. STAY AWAY from this place. They lock your rooms so you can't get in and it's 120 degrees outside. They open your bedroom without knocking and they shine a flashlight in your face every hour of the night to "make sure you're alive". This place will have some big lawsuits coming their way very quickly. Everyone leaves within the first week. They only let use your cellphone once a week for 10 minutes!! They cut their staff in half so there is literally no one around to help you. 90% of the time, the teachers didn't show up so the staff had to create a topic for the class on the fly. Just horrible. They do not care about your recovery, they only care about money and throwing into their aftercare programs which is just more money. read more

Hurried us into vans like we were like cattle (an older gentleman in particular) Hired a comedian to laugh about us and our addictions and it is no laughing matter when trying to get sober and stay sober. I paid cash for these 4 weeks of being incarcerated and treated like less than human. Also was bodily afraid of an admission who needed Psychiatric help - probably a cash paying admission. Hello, this is Connie B. I wrote a review a few years ago regarding my son whom went to Michaels house . I wanted to give an update on my son. So since Michaels house we have had some really great times and some really sad moments. Yes he has relapsed since Michaels houses few times but I have been in a much better place because of alanon. I dove in my husband and I not knowing what to expect but alanon has saved my life. I understand more that I can't save my son! I only know that no matter how much I try to save him he can only save himself. Michaels house started his foundation of knowing what to do and how to do the program! I thank god for that daily that the foundation that Michaels house gave him in the beginning would forever change his life. My son OD in my shower one morning after being sober almost a year .. I heard this giant crash in my guest bathroom and I ran to the bathroom calling his name! My husband came running down the hallway and broke the door in There he was my son on his back eyes rolling in his head blue! White as a ghost! Shower still running! My husband had him in his arms pounding on his chest while I called 911 my husband soaked in water! He was going in and out of life! As the paramedics arrived Narcon was given.. as they pulled him out of the shower. Naked they put him on the gurney and wheeled him out to the nearest hospital. It's the worded feeling as a parent to see this happen to your child. I was almost as sick as he was. I needed help, we needed help! Alanon saved our life! My son is sober today, I'm happy that he got another chance at life. He has a great job, a leader at his job. He has a beautiful GF that loves and supports him. He has a life that is worth fighting for. But only from the foundation that Michaels house planted in him early on. He is working his program the way he should be. The way Michaels house taught him. From the moment I entered Michael 's house I felt loved. Intake was very nice, nurses, dr, therapist. I just felt safe and wanted to be in a beautiful part of the country where I could learn about my addiction. I went to tour Michael's House last week 7/13/17, and I was very impressed. I have referred several people to this facility so it was nice to meet all of the staff and learn more about the work that they do. It was very clear that each staff member takes pride in their position, while always keep the client's best interest at heart. Reading reviews for treatment centers can be tricky considering the population of people who are writing them. Family members can be frustrated, clients can place blame on others, which can make for some irrational reviews of programs and treatment centers. So please do your research! Anyone who I have referred to Michael's House has had a great experience and has nothing but good things to say about all of the staff, housing, and overall environment. I will continue to recommend Michael's House to those looking for quality treatment in a safe, caring atmosphere. read more

One of the most disappointing and total polar opposite of what I was pitched...The programs are run by overweight ex drug addicts that spend the majority of their time in an air conditioned office on the internet or their phones (very much a "work shift" attitude). Two people were caught having sex there, the Nurses are slow, and for if you need something, you better hope they can accommodate you (sometimes available, sometimes not) I had a withdraw around 1:00am and ran to the Nurses office, nobody was there, the Nurse apparently went to Starbucks... I Have noticed a lot of reviews are kind of mixed up. My review will be for Michael's House TREATMENT center and NOT Michael's House TRANSITIONAL living, see my review there. I signed myself in here after battling an addiction problem for just over a year. When my counselor called I was able to be there within 24 hours. I was treated with respect and dignity from the moment I walked in. 98% of staff where great, but as everywhere there is always one bad apple. She knows who she is. Leaving that person out of this, I give the TREATMENT center big kuddo's if it wasn't for them I would not be on my new journey of discovery. Theresa a HUGE HUGE shout out, she is full of passion and sometimes may need to lay of the coffee, lol, you know i'm kidding Theresa if ya read this. She will bend over backwards to help you with anything. Chef, wow, the food, I was shocked, food fight for a king. Be warned, you will put on a few pounds. Lol. I bet you are asking to good to be true. Well, yes it has it faults, mine may be different, I had a lot of things stolen and took them a week to do anything about it. After asking multiple times for them to deal with the missing items nothing was done, until, I went to yep Theresa, she done a mini room search, but of course my items where never found. Be on your guard, people still. There is a lot of therapy, to much some days. But you do get to go on some outings, which are cool. Overall would have been a 5 star but for the rotten egg. 27k for 30 days inpatient. Husband relapsed 3 hours out of this program. 60 beds. No time to express self in group therapy due to large patient to staff ratio. Charlie, the staff set him up with IOP treatment and didn't even check to see if they took our insurance... plus it was in another city. Total waste of time. Chris the therapist persuaded my husband that I should not attend family weekend because he should "focus on treatment" and not have any "distractions" This place was described as a prison, that outings were not as promised and that treatment was ineffective. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I gave it an extra star for the fresh fruit. That's all my husband liked about this dump. read more

Be very cautious of this place in trusting for your loved one. My son spent two weeks at the Michael's house facility and was pretty much given the boot since they could not handle his acute psychosis. Kathy the director gave a very short warning that treatment was not working and options were to pick him up or we need to find another treatment facility asap. The next morning after this evening phone call she called the local police department to release him from their responsibility. My son who was given a 5150 code diagnosis from Cedar Sinai 10 days prior to being transferred here - (5150 code is very unstable and a danger to themselves ) released to wander the streets of Palm Springs until being picked up by Indio homeless outreach - A program obviously established and funded well to keep homeless away from affluent Palm Springs as indicated by an officer out of Indio. Unfortunately this is most likely not going to end very well for my loved one sent to what was referred to as "drug culture community of Indio" by a Indio police officer. Michael Rosen (founders son) was 25 just like my son is and probably living out his final days on the streets of Indio. Our son was referred to Michael's House in Palm Springs by a person who contacted him while at a hospital. He was told that he would be able to apply for disability right away upon arriving at Michael's House. This turned out to be far from the truth. The administrative staff at Michael's House have given him different answers to the same questions. This facility does not have the certification needed for their clients to receive disability. This was confirmed by Foundations for Recovery. The counseling staff who work with the clients toward recovery do a great job. Too bad the administrative staff have shown they are not as good at their jobs. read more

Especially , some saying Michael's House should be shut down , it's like a prison...blah, blah, blah, etc; I recently JUST returned from MICHAEL'S HOUSE (Palm Springs, CA) this past year JULY of 2016. Let me tell you something, speaking as a female THAT HAS RECENTLY JUST LEFT THIS FACILITY!! This place is BEAUTIFUL to say the least. IT IS NOTHING like a prison, and 10 years ago I literally spent 3 years in prison!!!!!!! So it's ridiculous not to mention foolish for someone to put prison and MH'S in the same sentence!! The staff & personal therapeutic counselors (one on one twice a week & group therapy four days a week for a hour in a half) are thee BEST it gets!! . In my life, I've been to other dual-diagnosis facilities. Which were a total of THREE (Including Michael's House ) within the past 15 years. They were NOTHING like MICHAEL'S HOUSE!!!!! In fact , my 19 yr old niece is presently in a rehab dual-diagnosis facility that I had previously visited many years ago. Mind you, from what she tells me when I visit her......NOTHING has changed @ that rehab facility ....unfortunately for HER!! I recommended & wanted her to go to Michael's House in CA, however she didn't want to leave the state for her own crazy reasons!!!??! (There is a Michael's House in MI, however she didn't want to go there either ...still to far from home... ) When I decided to get clean from alcohol LITERALLY the further the BETTER .... away from home as far as I was concerned. Michael's House in Palm Springs, CA was a breath of fresh air FOR ME .....so to speak. IF there are ANY negative reviews about this specific women's facility ....(obviously I can't speak for the men ) I will tell you first hand this facility truly CHANGED my life!!! Being an addict YOU HAVE to want it, no one is going to do the work for you!!!! YOU have to do the work yourself. IF you are TRULY.... (I MEAN IT )... TRULY tired of being tired...THIS is the place for YOU!! This is speaking from first hand experience , and unfortunately being an addict when entering ...THEN leaving a recovering addict...AND being happy with myself & life. In which mind you..... I still am. I didn't go to MH'S for the court I went for myself. I was having relationship issues which contributed to myself wanting to drown my myself in drinking , & of course not wanting to feel my own emotions!' Needless to say, their were a handfull of women that left while I was @ my stay at MH's . They prefer to call it AMA (Against Medical Advice.) Irregardless , of other women's choices of leaving or whatever. I needed to focus on ME!! These particular women were unfortunately just not "READY!" "READY" meaning ....ready to make a change, ready to give up their past, past of following the alcohol or drug!! They truly go both hand in hand. One needs to find a higher power, NOT necessarily being "GOD." However, being something you confide in, respect, love, cherish, and most importantly honor. P.S. Getting a DWI (driving while impaired) I was barely at the the legal limit (0.07) has cost me in total almost $20,000 out of MY bank account!! It's ALL about the money when it comes to this sort of incident. My treatment including outpatient was almost $50,000. Obviously, my insurance covered the inpatient & outpatient. I have privately pd ins. through my job, I'm not state funded, or on Medicaid !! Mind you, I do not want to deny anyone treatment. However, state funded individuals should NOT be flying out to Palm Springs, CA for treatment....,SORRY!! I pay every month for my insurance. Some people think insurance is a right, I believe it's a privilege . Just like having a drivers license it's not a right it is a privilege!!! Getting pulled over for drinking and driving and driving while impaired It is a multi- billion dollar business. It's truly ALL about $$$. When it comes to recovering. I was working to help a relative of mine get in here for treatment. This review is only about the intake team, they are the absolute worst. I understand they have a lot (& I mean A LOT/over an hour) of questions to ask during the assessment but they could be more sensitive about it. The gentleman we were working with was just awful, he was very militaristic about the whole thing. We got cut off and I called back and whoever answered the phone just said, "no" when I asked to speak with the person we had been working with. I said, "just no?" And he replied, "yes, just no." Seriously??? I then explained we were deep into the assessment with the other person and got cut off and then he said oh, well let me see if he's around!??? WT... so then we start speaking with the original person again and I asked him if he could possibly skip the section of questions we got cutoff at and come back to them at the end because they were hard for my relative to talk about and he just kept making me repeat myself as if he could not understand and then talked over me. To sum it up, they have an awful intake team who are not very sensitive and/or just have no real people skills at all. I had called another time and the woman in the phone had such seething anger in her tone we decided to go with another treatment center. read more

I am alumni of Michael's House and firmly believe because of the care and recovery foundation I received there, I am free to celebrate three and a half years recovered today. The dual diagnosis program offered at MH is intended to not only treat the addictive behaviors of an individual in a therapeutic and often holistic environment but also to address underlying issues that may be the root cause of the behaviors in the first place. As with any business, the initial impression one receives is from the people that work there. From my pick up at the airport to my discharge at 44 days, the staff at MH assisted in creating a healing loving environment for me that was full of understanding and compassion. The staff is highly trained and certified in their field of operation and during my admittance I felt safe and well cared for during detox and treatment. The program offered is varied and engaging. MH's range of treatment options made it sort of a sampler of sorts for recovery options. We went to 12 step meetings, had therapy sessions, process groups, meditation, exercise, and adventure therapy. A little bit of everything was offered to help me figure out what worked best for me, and I did not feel pressured into one path over the other. Because of the dedication and inspiration I received from the staff at MH, I myself began working in recovery and have since 6 months of sobriety. I left a lucrative position in investment banking to peruse a field in which, not ever person who walks the path lives in gratitude and may not understand why certain actions are taken for their own good. Recovery is often a path of hard knocks and you get out of it what you put in. Through further education I now work as a recovery advocate, recovery coach, and am starting my Phd in Psychology to work as an adventure therapist in the field of recovery. I have learned and implemented what I got from my 44 days at MH, some people just aren't ready to do that yet. If you think all they want is your money, I have to tell you from my personal experience there are plenty of people who are seeking rehab to "get their money" from. If you want to try to save your life, are running out of options, are sick and tired of being sick and tired, and are finally ready to take responsibility for your own behavior MH is where I decided to do that. If I could choose no stars I would. I went to this place 3 years ago. Admitted myself for dual diagnosis and it was awful. It was a huge waste of money and my time. I might as well went to prison! That's how they treat you! The "nurses" tried to 5150 me and when I went to the hospital that night after a panic attack, the psychologist told me I'm clearly smart and coherent and there is no need for me to be there. She said they do this a lot with the people there. This place was awful!! Brings back nightmares!! Don't go there or don't let your children go there!! The staff are cruel!!!! read more

I just returned from the Michael's House family weekend. We have been through other family programs (and my son through other addiction treatment programs) and we thought they were fine. If you are reading this, you have probably felt he same helplessness we did until we came to spend the weekend with the Michael's House staff. I can't speak to the reviews regarding the program itself, but I know that what I have seen is an incredibly committed, experienced and caring group of people who are clearly working in this program based on a calling to their hearts. My family, including my son who was in the residential program and is now in the sober living/IOP program, felt completely supported, educated and understood. The program helped us to "live" the tenants that we all knew from al-anon and other family programs. They made them real to us and, in the process, allowed our family to communicate in a way that we have not done in many years. I rarely write reviews, but I feel strongly that I would be doing a huge disservice to any family who is dealing with a family member in need to addiction/mental health treatment if I didn't include my impressions. This place is the real deal, and the people here care, support and nurture those who are there willing to do the sometimes painful, difficult work or getting their life back. I know that they have saved my son's life. He knows that they have saved his life. There is still much work to be done but, with their help, I know that he will continue to move forward and discover what happiness looks like. First of all if your reading this I am so sorry for you! You are either a heartbroken family member grasping on to a bit of some hope or looking for some safe place for your love one to go to. Or the person who is afraid and figured out you finally need help. I highly recommend micheals place. I don't know what the future has for my family!! My daughter is 60 days clean. It's been a really rough time and it's one day at a time! One thing is for sure. I thank god every day for micheals house. It is a dual diagnoses center. I know in my heart a regular rehab would not have worked. As a mother they were signs of problems early on before drugs. And with these great people we are able to get to to core. My daughter said to me the other day " she wishes there was more dual diagnoses rehab" that alone made me feel as a mother I am doing everything and all that I can. I love my daughter and can't imagine my world without her as most parents. This disease wants them, it's a fight that we have to win. Give them the best and micheals is the best. They just have to want it. I believe if you want it bad enough it's there. These people have it all in place. Not really sure how to rate this place. The staff was really great and accomodations were very comfortable. Oh and the food was always top of the line great. I saw people go through the stabilization center and come out in really good shape. Detoxed, happy and full of energy. Thing is, these were nearly all people in their early 20s. Other than me I think the oldest patient I saw was maybe 25 or so. Well - I'm a few generations beyond that. No one there I could relate to or even sit and talk to - so I spent my time there pretty isolated. At intake, I was told I would see a doctor for medical evaluation within 24 hours. I did and the doctor was clearly a very good one. Met with him every day I was there. I was also told I would meet with my assigned Rehab Counselor in a day, two max to get me started on my program. I had been off opiates almost 2 weeks so I was considered already detoxed and was told after a couple sessions to complete necessary stuff I would be transferred to the Men's Center. Probably in 2 or 3 days. That never happened. After being in the Stabilization center over a week, I still had not met with my Rehab Counselor except one brief time and that was because I fell and she was required to file a report. Also, my kids called her every day. They never spoke with her. Voice mails and emails were never returned. I never got the full indoctrinaton and wasn't given the books, notebook and other material the others received right away. Never went to any meetings. Basically, I spent nearly 8 days in my room laying on my bed with nothing to do but stare at a small digital clock. On my 8th day there I was automatically discharged because of a serious, non-related illness. They told me - and I understood - they are not a medical facility and not able to provide the medical care I needed. Also there were liability issues. This does make sense. Thing is - after I was discharged I had the chance to talk with a staff member I happened to really like. I was told that the 2nd day I was there they discussed me at staff and it was pretty much unanimous that their program was wrong for me and I would most likely never get on board with it. This seems to be the consistent opinion of staff members - but they kept me there anyway. I do wonder how long I would have just languished there if I hadn't got sick. After about two or three days I started to get a feeling they didn't want me there. That feeling got stronger every day, although no staff member or patient ever said a bad word to me. I could feel it. I was never included in any group activities. So - from what I saw I really would recommend the place if you're a young (in your 20s) healthy person. That seems to be where they do excel and are very successful. If you're a generation or more beyond that - I'd really give this place some serious 2nd thought. At a minimum, before you commit to registering - go there. Take a tour. See what the other patients are like and see if you're compatible with that age group. Every time I visit Michael's House I am warmly greeted by patients and staff. I am not sure if they are taught this or not, but whenever I arrive at the Men's Center, patients immediately approach me and introduce themselves, which makes me feel welcome. I have had several friends go through this program who are still living a life of sobriety today. One common theme I hear among the many people who have completed treatment at Michael's House is that it really prepares them and gives them a solid foundation for their next step on the road to recovery. read more

I agree with most of the negative reviews detox is small but when you finish detox, if you are male you go to a house with over 80 men, it is a renovated old hotel..everything is broken.... I chose to go here twice. The pharmacy they use for the facility is around 3 hours away!!!! So if you need suboxone or subutex or heart meds or medically necessary medications they will just send you to the emergency room. expect to Wait for a very long time...no cell phones allowed. No outside calls allowed until after the first week and you are timed with one call per week...It does not provide the tools necessary to abstinence...unless you have 45,000$ including price for aftercare it's not worth it. The activities or outings for hiking were fun. But the men's house is over 80 men on one small corner property, and only ten get to go on outings.... read more

I was a resident at Michael's House for a very brief time because when I first got there they wanted to put me on benzodiazepine to assist me to withdraw from alcohol. They were giving me one addictive drug to stop addictive alcohol which is crazy, so I left and went to another treatment center. When I left, they never gave me a copy of my inventory list, my health screening and blood work. They said they would mail it to me. They never did! When I came into the House I had brand new Louis Vuitton shoes and leather jacket, which they took from me during my intake. To make matters even worse, they wouldn't even call a taxi when I said I am leaving. I had to walk to town to get a taxi. Compared to the rehab that I went to after them, this place is really run poorly. That they still have not dealt with my property, continually giving me the run-around is more evidence that they really do not care about the welfare of their clients. They just care about the money! The law, as it has been told to me, is that they must give me copies of the paperwork. This is outrageous! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! read more
