I am relatively new to the area and found Dr. Gonzales through an online group in Palm Springs. I find Dr. Gonzales to be friendly, methodical in his care and he listens to my concerns. His staff always returns phones calls and they keep me informed. During our initial encounter he took my history carefully and recommended a test that should be done because of my age and history. Thank God he did, it revealed some concerning issues that I am now able to deal with. He was the first doctor to insist on this test. Dr. Gonzales is rare in today's chaotic medical climate. He doesn't just prescribe a pill and send you on your way, he spends as much time with you as you need and he genuinely wants you to be healthy -- and he's very thorough in his goal to make this a reality. If understanding your medical situation includes lots of tests, he'll recommend them. If it includes lifestyle changes, he'll suggest them. He also takes time explaining things, which is unusual in my experience. I've never felt rushed out of his office. In addition, his staff is terrific. If I email them in the morning, I hear back before the end of the day. They also -- gasp! -- return patients' phone calls, which is highly unusual these days. I've had some good PCP doctors in my life... and a few not-so-good (I'm 70... ouch), but Dr. Gonzales is by far THE BEST; I seriously mean that. I'm not blowing any smoke... so-to-speak. He has been my PCP for a number of years. He's amusing at times. Compassionate. Without doubt... knows what he's doing as a doctor. In other words: Dr. Gonzales knows his stuff. Takes time with his patients and he listens. He doesn't rush you out like many others do. That's the definition of what a fully dedicated and amazing doctor he is. Dr. Gonzales is invested in them. I can continue to add more concise adjectives to this shopping list, but I believe you can get the gist about the four corners and what lives inside of him--but Dr. Gonzales will break them down, if need be, for you. Everyone told me that to navigate Medicare, the most important variable is to find and secure the best PCP (Primary Care Provider) You need a guy in a network with all the better specialists in town, but you also need a PCP who is not overwhelmed by a plethora of patients, is willing to make the time to listen to you and can hold his own when you come armed with WebMD data and opinions. Most importantly, you want a PCP who considers positive results to be positive results for YOU. I want to live forever and have been doing a terrible job ensuring that. I need a PCP who recognizes my failings and, without judgment, help to correct course. He listens. He is firm about promoting proven science. Mostly, he genuinely seems to love his role in his patient's lives. I'm sure he's imperfect, and almost all the MD's I know would consider that as a low blow insult. We have been with Dr Gonzalez and his team since we moved to the area in 2020. He was our first and only doctor here in Palm Springs. I am a life long asthmatic and have been in and out of doctor's offices all my life. With absolute sincerity I will tell you that his office is a wonderful rarity. They care. They listen, they answer the phones or they call you back right away. They do not push you in and out (unless you want them too). They follow on your RX's and your labs. They smile, they care and they remember you even if you haven't been there for awhile. Here is a true rarity...They schedule patients so Dr Gonzalez has the time needed but I have never seen a patient waiting bcz he overbooked appts. If I wait it's bcz I showed up early. Hi, I will try to stick to the salient points as I know that when I read a review, I'm mostly interested in just the facts. I've only seen the doctor twice and corresponded a few times via email, so with this many warning flags after just two visits, I should have changed doctors immediately. Here are the bullet points as promised: 1. Was 40 minutes late for my first appointment. 2. Charged me $25.00 'document fee' to sign a prefilled form indicating I use a CPAP at night. 3. Scheduled lab work for me but didn't schedule a follow up appt. until 3 weeks later to go over results so I could start taking a new medication. 4. Ignored a follow-up email from me requesting the results to start the new med. The office sent a reply indicating the doctor was a 'busy man' and will go over the results during the next appointment (which was still over a week and a half away) 5. Took nine days to order a refill on a medication that he already had on file. 6. Is now requiring all patients (new and existing) to join his newly created 'wellness group' for a fee of $250.00 annually or be dropped as a patient. 7. Threatened me with legal action if I share my experiences with my healthcare provider or anyone. Those are the facts. Number five really should have been the last straw. This is a medication I take twice daily so when I didn't receive a response to my first email sent on a Sunday, I emailed again on that Thursday asking for the status. I was told that the request had been forwarded to the doctor and that they will let me know when it will be ready (again with the don't call us, we'll call you attitude). It wasn't until the following Tuesday that it was finally entered into the system and by then I was practically out. Even after that experience, I was still putting up with it because it is difficult to find a doctor in Palm Springs and because honestly, I am lazy by nature. What finally broke the camel's back was when I received a letter indicating that he is requiring all of his patients to join his newly formed 'wellness group' at a cost of $250.00 per year. The letter indicated it was mandatory and anyone who didn't join and pay by the end of December would be dropped as a patient. I sent a response to his email indicating my unhappiness at this new fee, a list of my previous experiences (stated above), and to let him know that I would be informing United Healthcare of this new requirement as this is a fee above and beyond the maximum charges United Healthcare listed for seeing an in-network doctor. I received a scathing reply which quite honestly was beyond the pale and shocked me. It went on for three paragraphs about how the fee was legal and how everyone was doing it including Eisenhower. The shocker was towards the end of the email when he indicated that my email was "forwarded to Dr Gs lawyer today in preparation to mount any legal response for any inappropriate illegal behavior you make, such as unfounded accusations". - I'm not sure how this could be considered anything except an attempt at intimidation; but since I have documentation for everything except him being 40 minutes late, I will take my chances and inform other people of my experiences. When I read online reviews, I know that there are always two sides to every story and I tend to read most of them with a grain of salt. With that in mind, I did my best here to stick to the facts and leave personality out of it as best I could; however, I would suggest reading his reviews from Yelp and Google. Many of the bad experiences mentioned closely track with mine and seem to show a pattern of disdain and disrespect for his patients. read more

Update: Dr. Gonzales has implemented a value-based care approach. With value-based care, Dr. Gonzales will be transforming his practice to focus on patient health - not just treating ailments. For an annual fee, patients are enrolled in the wellness program. This fee is in addition to any insurance benefits and fills a gap that insurance doesn't cover. Having been a patient for three years (since moving to Palm Springs), I can say that Dr. Gonzales really cares about increasing and sustaining the health of his patients. I think the program fee is very reasonable because it will allow Dr. Gonzales and his team spend more time with patients. read more

I've been in the CV for a minute and had a couple different docs looking for the one I could feel comfortable talking to about my history, I can do it with Dr. G. Doc was very clear in his explanation of the treatment I would be going through and what steps would be taken following the results of tests. Without putting down other docs, Dr. G. explained how important it is that I receive a proper dx from docs. Nice try! You don't get to write some crap about how much you care and how I need someone to blame; I don't necessarily but you certainly are. I was there when you told him "you have the worst luck" and "this is very bad" and "I don't know what anyone is going to be able to do for you". I was also there when you read his chart and saw his CT scan report that said "adenocarcinoma of the rectal colon with metastasis to the liver" - that's Stage IV!!!!!!! Don't act like you didn't know. I was also there when you were hesitant to even refer him to an Oncologist until you saw a path report. I was also there when you NEVER checked in or followed up with his care EVER EVER! I was also there when you told him he had hemorrhoids and he should just wait for a colonoscopy. I was there when he had to go to the ER with excruciating pain and get diagnosed there! I was there when you DID NOT care! Do not reply to me please. JUST NO!!! This man should NOT be practicing medicine. He doesn't know a hemorrhoid from Stage 4 rectal cancer - literally-and now my friend is dead (in just 6 months time). Three weeks before he died Dr G insisted on speaking with him and wanted to know why he was on hospice and why he wasn't seeing a surgeon. So arrogant and full of himself. Criminal!!! I belonged to the Eisenhower 365 membership program. Whenever I went to see my doctor, I paid a co pay plus a facility charge. I just felt like a number there. I wanted a doctor in my neighborhood who didn't make me feel like a number. Not only does Dr. Gonzalez listen to me and make recommendations. His staff are wonderful to deal with. When I couldn't get an appointment for a CT scan for 3 weeks, they called on my behalf and got me an appointment the very next day. He was 1 hour late with no apology or explanation, it took only 15 minutes in the exam room for the nurse to take vitals and I waited only 10 more minutes before being ushered into his office. What a mistake to be taken into his office to continue the examination. It was a nightmare of clutter and disorganization. His desk was covered in records in disarray clearly visible, patients' files were not even in folder but just clipped together and becoming conjoined. I could name address, phone numbers.....so much for patients' confidentiality.  My case containing medications had been dumped out and strewn in amongst the other mess on his desk, 30 plus bottles. Usually a PA reviews the meds, I guess he can't afford one.. He had no visible method of record taking, no laptop, no Ipad, no computer, nothing but a scrap of paper. He was writing notes with a pen on a piece of scrap paper. I was astonished and thought I was in a time warp.I thought this wasn't going to work but made an attempt to address his short abrupt questions as to what was wrong with me. I sensed he was rushing and asked how much time he usually invests in the initial visit with a new patient and he didn't have an answer but vaguely said he spends as long as it takes so I said I could set a timer if that would help so I wouldn't exceed the time allotted because it would take a lot of time if we were to go over each medication and why it was prescribed and manually hand record everything. If he were to be the prescribing doctor, would he like to proceed that way? At that moment, it became crystal clear it was time to leave. He abruptly ended the appointment and as swiftly as me ushered me in, I was ushered out. I said goodbye to his General Contractor version of a Taj Mahal-ish new office building with thrift store quality furnishings never to return. read more
