Was ridiculous to try and get help. I saw a lady who worked there and said 'excuse me'. And she speed walked away with no response. So I got in the check out line figured maybe someone there could help me. Once I got to the front I asked a lady at the desk. She had an attitude. I was just asking where a bucket of scissors was. She started to give me directions then gave up with a huff and showed me where. She started to tell me they're all out as she found the last bucket. I found the product I was looking for thankfully. When shopping at this Michaels location I was discriminated against and treated horribly by one of the managers Lisa, right in front of my 7 and 9 year old children. I used the restroom and noticed there were no more paper towels. This was at about 7:40pm. I wasn't able to dry my hands and I noticed a sign on the door that said "not clean? need supplies? Please let us know" I came out the restroom and proceeded to look for an employee. I noticed a blonde hair mature looking lady so my children and I walked up to her and said "Hi, there's no paper towels left in the men's restroom and I was wondering if you could refill it? She looked at me in a very annoyed way and said "I'll put some when I have time". I then asked if she thought it would be sometime in the next 10 minutes or so because I needed to properly wash my hands. She shook her head at me as if she wanted to punch me in the face and stormed off to the back where the restrooms are. My two kids looked at me in shock and worry and I told them I guess she's upset. We then start walking to the back to follow her. We waited by the hall and she comes out the men's restroom and says "There!" in a very agressive way, with 0 concerns about scarying my two kids. They aren't use to being talked to this way and they're certainly not expecting to see their parent being talked to like this while we go shopping at their favorite store. I tried to act normal and ask them to wait for me in the hall while I go wash my hands. I walk inside and see the papertowel refill on the floor of the restroom. I can't believe what Im seeing. Instead of refilling it she put the replacement on the dirty bathroom floor for me. This is obviously not sanitary and a subliminal message for me. I didn't know what to do so I obviously decided I wasn't going to use paper towels that were sitting on the floor and just took a picture so that I could have for documentation and reference. I didn't say anything to my kids but they started asking me why she was so mean to me. I asked a young guy cashier who the manager was and he said Lisa and when I described her as older with blonde hair he said that was her. I said oh no I don't want to speak to her again and couldn't believe she was a manager with how bad she treated me. I then see her talking to another customer laughing and being all friendly and now I just feel completely discriminated against. My kids were shaken up and weren't in the same mood as when we walked in. I noticed another older lady with brown hair I believe named Linda. She has always been extremely sweet to me and my family so I told her about my experience with the blonde haired lady Lisa and she was in shock and just continued to apologize to me. She said she was going to document the situation and that I could contact 1-800 - Michaels. I won't ever let anyone treat me and my family the way she did and would like to hear from someone in corporate office about this. I have pictures of the refill on the floor she left for me and also a pic of the sign on the door that says "Let us know". The store manager called me and left me a voicemail to call her back. I called her back multiple times but she was busy every time. I left her messages to call me back and she never did. This classless lady Lisa still works there and is hard to miss. read more

I will not shop here again. Employees are incredibly rude. I nicely asked an employee -Lisa -for a band aide after cutting myself while picking up a house made out of metal. She was incredible rude. Her first response was "we don't sell them here". Then when I said "what about for a customer who just cut themselves" she seemed so annoyed - no concern what so ever. BTW- they did not have any band aids. I got a piece of paper towel from the girl at the front register - she was just as bad. I don't understand why and how people can work retail and cannot even learn to say hello and thank you after a purchase. I am APPALLED at the lack of understanding that the two cashiers I dealt with today at the Michael's store in La Verne have about the sacrifices that military personnel and their families make each and every day for our country. Here's what happened: Cashier Liz rang up my purchase. I asked for the 15% military family discount that is offered very prominently throughout the store. She asked me for my military ID. I told her that their discount is offered to the family of military personnel also and that my husband is the one that served. I showed her a picture of my husband in his uniform with me and my kids (my kids were both with me,) and I explained that my husband carries his ID. This wasn't good enough. She asked another cashier, Lori, about accepting the picture as proof. Lori, very condescendingly, said that "maybe next time your husband shopping with you, he can show his military ID and you can get the discount." I almost flipped!!! Really????!!! What if my husband was deployed???!!! What if he was still in the hospital being treated for injuries sustained while serving???!!! I was LIVID. I left the store and called to speak to the manager. I spoke with the assistant manager, Maria, who was very nice and apologized numerous times, saying that the cashiers should have called her to make that decision. She said she is from a military family and completely understood where I was coming from. She said she would personally speak to both Liz and Lori about the incident. I hope she does. I'll wait till I'm home in Brea to make any purchases from Michael's from now on. BTW, two things; 1) my husband is home now but is permanently disabled because of his service to our country and 2) the discount would have been 45 cents! CLEARLY, I am not upset about the money but the PRINCIPLE. To any vets that might read this review; thank you for your service. To any military families that read this; thank you for your sacrifice. I miss the Michael's in Covina, I loved that store. This store does have a good selection of items, there are often items on clearance and it seems to be clean when ever I go in. Yes there are lines often, really long lines, but they the cashiers are quick and they go quickly. I only gave it 4 stars because the manager seems to have a really bad attitude, I've seen the way she talks to employees and I thought she was just having a bad day. However after my son applied for work here he called in and spoke to her on the phone and apparently she treats perspective employees as bad as she treats the current hired employees. This Michaels was really confusing. It seemed like the whole store was being turned inside out. They had many empty shelves. Maybe they were getting ready to stock them with seasonal merchandise, maybe not. I don't know. All I really know is that I had a heck of a time trying to find the stuff I was looking for. I needed t-shirt design materials. All I found was an endcap with some paints. I knew ahead of time that they had some fabric paint on sale, but this paint was not on the endcap. Where was it? Finally, I asked someone. She said that where I had found the paint I was holding up was on the same aisle as the paints on sale. I told her all I found was an endcap. So, she walked me back to the aisle that was no where near the other paint and crafty aisles I would have thought the t-shirt stuff would have been near. It was on aisle 40, all the way in the back of the store. I swear Michaels does this on purpose. Each store you go into is laid out differently. It's not the same from store to store. I think they do this to confuse you so that you are forced to walk through the entire store making you pick up items you may not need but since you're walking by them you realize you need them. How's that for a run-on sentence. Anyway, I finally am thankful that I am in the correct aisle (now that I've wasted what seems like 10 minutes wandering around aimlessly). I pick out the items I want and head back to the front of the store for purchase. Don't know if I'll come back to this Michaels again. However, I must say that the girl who checked me out seemed to know the lady in front of me in line. Compared to other Michael's locations, this one is terrific! Lots of selection and it seems to be more well-stocked. They have a relatively large clearance section which I had fun browsing. I didn't experience any lines but maybe that's because I went during the first hour of the Super Bowl :) There were also additional items on sale and clearance outside. Their website wasn't working so I reluctantly drove to the (La Verne, CA) store and did my shopping. I asked the manager if she could honor my online coupon and showed her (on my phone) how the checkout system wasn't working. Lisa was very sympathetic and called the 800# for assistance. After waiting on hold for about 30 minutes not even knowing if customer service was still open, someone answered the line. She calmly and repeatedly explained to the people on the phone what the problem was and eventually got authorization to use the online coupon in the store. This Michaels is scary as fuck. There's no background music playing, it's dead silent and dark. I felt like I was walking through a thrift store during an apocalypse. There's hardly any stock of items, so don't expect to find what you're looking for. There was no line and when I checked out I felt like the cashier was just looking to start a fight with someone. I used a coupon and the michaels app had another coupon. I asked her nicely if she could just scan it and she didn't even try and said the other coupon has already been applied . I said I know but can you scan it anyways and see if it works? She went all monotone with dead eyes and said you have a clearance item and only one other item so that won't work. And I said ok but I've used multiple coupons in the past where it says one coupon type per day, and I've been able to use multiple coupons for ONE item. She didn't give a shit what I was trying to tell her and i didn't feel like listening to her go all monotone again so I just paid for my stuff and left. I've been here on different occasions. The prices are pretty steep for art supplies, but that's not the reason for three stars. This is a smaller location. With that said, I've waited in line for 20min or more on different occasions. I literally timed it! The most I've ever seen is two chash registers opened at a time. One time I was simply buying ribbon. I waited more time in line then shopping. Then as far as customer service, it's a hit or miss. Went in tonight 1/3/19 to look at planners my daughter had saw few days ago. Sign on display 60% off Happy Planners and Recollections brands. We both picked Recollections planner with inserts. At cash register no sale price. I asked the nice girl at check out, she asked me if there was a sale posted. I said yes so she asked for someone to go and check. The other person went to check told her it was there should have been taken down but would give me the discount. I told her my daughter had some of the same brand. They made the announcement it was 8:45 and closing in 15 minutes. My daughter came up and the girl helping us called the white haired lady over. I think she was the store or shift manager. The items were the smaller version of what I bought. She questioned us like we were trying to get away with something saying the stuff was not on sale not that brand or only 40% off. (They had just verified mine was on sale same brand got 60% off). The "boss lady" told the cashier "I know it is a hassle, just go ahead and do it." So sorry to be such a "hassle". Not our fault you cannot run your store efficiently. My daughter goes here quite often for pens, gifts, things for her room. Well not any more. Though I completely understand where others are coming from with their negative reviews and I myself have cursed going to ANY Michaels location (I used to frequent the one in Pasadena) particularly anywhere close to a holiday season, I felt compelled to write a review about my recent experience at this LaVerne location. Perhaps it was *because* of all the negatives that I had a total opposite experience today, or maybe I just got lucky-- but the fact is, I went in with a craft project in mind that I had never attempted before, thus had tons of questions. I actually had to interact with THREE different employees during my visit and ALL three of them (wish I had noticed their names) were nothing but helpful, polite and friendly...all the way thru check out. All of the older employees are rude and unhelpful. On multiple occasions when I've asked them if they had a particular item I was asking for they acted like it was the biggest inconvenience. I came in for rubber stamps because I needed them for my classroom. The usual school supply stores had really shoddy selections for really expensive. Michael's had a larger selection but the prices weren't much better. I did find two sets of mini stamps that were 27 stamps for $4.99. One set was school related and the other was a mix of rock n roll, ballet, peace, books, etc. Not a bad deal for $10. Service was good too. The store is pretty big and not too messy. read more

Went here yesterday, they are remodling. Besides the nasty floors they haven't redone yet, it looks nice. I used to go here a lot but the service is soooooo horrible. The older people that work here are great very helpful and nice. The younger kids have a bad attitude and hate you for breathing the same air as them. Especially the gentleman with all the piercings. I really try to avoid him but he is all ways there at the register. He has one of those attitudes, that if your in his presence you are already dismissed and is disgusted with you because your not worthy or as beautiful as him, lol! :/ But even though the ugly attitude piercing guy is there I will go back. Because I like Michael's craft stores. They have soooooo many neat things most I won't buy because it's over priced but it's fun to look at it. For those of you that face paint professionally, some Snazaroo products are on clearance for 1 to 2 dollars. I went into this store on 03/21/2016 with four prints that I needed framed. Your employee, Kylie was very helpful in figuring out which frames and matte colors would work best. The prints I had were very different in the colors present from one to the next so the mattes were going to be different colors as to highlight the colors in the prints themselves. Kylie was very patient and helpful working with me and pulling out many different colors and matte styles until we came to a conclusion on which matte would be the best for that print and then moved onto the next one. I am pretty sure we spent over an hour trying to figure out the colors for all four and then putting it in the order. You have a great employee in her and she made the experience much more pleasant. read more

This location has minimal selection on products and seems dead every time I come in. The workers that I've encountered are RUDE and seem to only be there to collect a paycheck. I approached a worker who was stocking stamps on the shelves. I asked her if she had a certain item and without even turning to look at me even once, she just replied with one word - "no", and kept working. I mean, I get it, you're focused on stocking, but come on, at least turn to acknowledge me in the face or say something more like "no, I'm sorry we don't. I can call another store to check for you" nothing. So when it came time to pay at the register, the cashier and another employee were so caught up with a personal conversation about getting a job as a phlebotomist that she didn't even say one word to me while I was standing there paying. This place is shit for hiring dead zombies here. Someone spilled paint and they didn't clean up! What the fuck is wrong with them. Our new shoes were ruined. There were paint on the shoes. We let one of the employee know about it and she just gave us a spray and paper towel. She didn't apologize or clean up the mess right away. People here are useless. Good thing is he didn't slip and fall or else they are waiting for a lawsuit. The bad thing is someone's new shoes got ruined. I asked to speak to another employee and all she could say is sorry. They didn't give us anything us else to clean because it will destroy our shoes. Oh really? These employees are not sincere and gave us attitudes like we are the clumsy ones who just step into paint on purpose. I don't understand how they could just not care about the well being of their customers. We are very unhappy with this service. I was planning to buy some products, but I gave up on them why bother to buy anything here for useless people to give us attitude. Anything spilled on the floor is a HAZARD!!!
