I really like this Michael's. It always has everything I need for arts and crafts projects. Their holiday selection is especially great and I was able to pick up ornaments at half off. I also love their paper selection and variety of supplies. I always make sure to use a coupon when I shop here, which makes the prices very competitive. How has this Micheal's not been reviewed? How is it not even listed in YELP until I added it? Seriously! Ok. This is located in a strip mall with Academy Sports at one end, and Laser Tag at the other end on the north side of Veterans BLVD. HUGE parking lot in front. It is fairly easy to get in and out of the parking lot. Walking in, I was quick to notice the closed circuit monitoring of the store. The sales are fairly good, but even not on sales, the prices are not too bad. On my most recent visit, I was looking for a basic kit to learn to cross stitch, found it quickly and was able to check out quickly. Most visits, the store has plenty of associates on the floor to help you. This visit (July 4th) was light on help, but it is a holiday and I am glad they were even open. Nice surprise! The staff is always friendly and helpful, and checkout is easy. The whole store is neat, clean and well organized. The signs at the end of the aisles are true to what is actually on the aisle. I went to exchange something That I ordered off line and apparently I left the receipt which was the paper that had the barcode on it, and the gentleman kept getting extremely short with me however they did look it up with my credit card and my Michaels rewards and was not able to pull it up. I went on my phone to get my order and that is how I was able to do my return. and the ball headed man and the red face woman at the front counter were very nasty during my return. My daughter wanted to go off but I would not let her because two wrongs don't make a right. Not sure if there was some prejudices going on here but they definitely need to work on customer service and have some diversity training. It is 2019 people do not let the current president take everyone back! Praying for our country, God bless America! These people do not reflect Michael's it only reflects the two employees that were at the store on this day. I was patient I was able to return the items despite the attitudes and blatant rudeness. The city of Metairie has a culture of this behavior so maybe it was the area but I've never experienced treatment like this and I have gone to Michael's in different locations and states. read more

Yesterday I was in a panic mode looking for things to make centerpieces for my sons rehearsal dinner in 5 days. I am not crafty. Walked in and approached two employees. I showed them the pic of what I wanted to do and from there the help was ENDLESS! Amazing!!! Jessica the store manager helped me with EVERYTHING!! She went way beyond the call of duty and saved me!! Sometimes, when I find a place with a negative review and ignore it, it turns out to be a great experience. Other times, I realize I should have listened to my fellow Yelpers. Michael's is definitely the latter. I'm not a crafty gal. However, I had this GREAT idea for a Christmas gift for the in-laws, which required a custom frame for some photos of my daughter. I also found a coupon on Michael's website for 60% off custom framing - one day only. I knew from Naomi's review that it still wouldn't be cheap, but with the 60% off, I figured the price would be reasonable, and it was. I paid for the frame and mat in mid December (14th or 15th, I think). I hadn't yet printed out the photos that I wanted framed, so the girl suggested a certain size, saying they would fit well and are a common size, so I wouldn't have any issues getting them printed. Fair enough. I went with that. They told me to drop off the photos any time, either before or after the frame was complete. We went on a short vacation and I dropped off the photos on December 30, figuring they could just pop them into the frame and I would be okay to take them to our belated Christmas exchange on New Year's Eve. No such luck. I received a phone call about 2 hours later (thinking it was finished), only to find that the mat didn't fit the photos. They couldn't redo the mat on site, so they had to order it. Fine. I gave the okay for it, as they said it would be a "rush order" and probably would be finished next Wednesday. Fast forward to the following Thursday. I called, and they claimed they were still waiting on me to approve the re-order of the mat. I got annoyed, re-told them to order it, and again, they said it would be a rush order and should be there in a few days. The following Tuesday, I called again, only to be told "it isn't supposed to be done until Jan 23" rather rudely, and then they hung up on me. I'm not confrontational, so I let it go. I actually pushed this whole thing so far back in my mind that I forgot to call and check on it again until Jan 27. At which point, the girl on the other end of the phone told me, "it's been finished for a couple of days." Well... you know... a phone call to let me know it's done would have been GREAT! Argh. The finished product does, in fact, look fabulous. I'm impressed with their work. What I'm absolutely disgusted with is the following: 1) Lack of customer service skills 2) Lack of communication skills 3) Timeframe for it to be finished... even with the mat mishap, I think that should have added maybe a week to the turnaround time. Not an extra 2-3 weeks. 4) No phone call upon its completion to let me know I could pick it up. Never again. I'll go somewhere else. read more

They have a decent size gouache paint selection - two rows (probably 20 colors altogether). I own the 6 pack set but wanted the 10 pack which is only available online. The store said they don't get free shipping if they ordered for me :( Any michaels fanatic knows that the real deal is the coupons!! Those 50% coupons in the mail will lure you in to the store. But the next thing you know you're looking at every mason jar and artificial flower. And of course the seasonal decorations demand some adoration. Fortunately nearly every Michaels is always so busy that no one bothers you. You can meander for EVER without any judgment :) This location is huge. Twice the paint selection as the New Orleans location. The footprint might also be twice as large. It's a little bit of a trek from New Orleans, but if you have a couple of hours on Saturday, GO FOR IT! The Claiborne location is definitely my home base regularly. Lots of appreciation for that location also. read more

This is a craft center that is over stuffed with items. Located in an odd shopping mall it pays to have patience here. The selection is wide on NOLA essentials from glue guns to glitter, dried flowers, paper craft items and some fabric items...framing, Wilton cake supplies etc. however the prices are not the best, you need to shop WELL in advance of a holiday or event to get the best selection and they often run out of items. On a recent trip I did have a pleasant check out cashier who actually had the coupon at the register when my mobile one wouldn't scan and wasn't rude about it. In fact, she was downright pleasant - but that is an anomaly for this store... Here is to hoping they continue to improve and stock items more in keeping with the rhythms of NOLA and all our decorating excuses - lol read more

I bake so I usually come here to hit up the cake decorating aisle since there is no cake decorating store in the area. Lately when I have been going, this aisle is virtually empty. I don't know if it's bc they haven't restocked in ages or they keep selling out. Regardless, it's usually a wasted trip. Also, it gets too hot up in here and I HATE the new checkout system. Basically you stand in this obnoxiously long line that almost reaches the door then wait until one of the registers is free. I'm always in line forever and believe there must be a more time friendly way to check out. Michael's is always cluttered IMO. They try to pack too many things in such a small space. Often the 4G data on my phone doesn't work in here so I have issues pulling up the coupons while in store. I have to make sure I get it before entering and take a screen shot of it. Same issue at the Michael's in Elmwood shopping center...weird. However I do love their coupons...usually there is a 40%-60% off one item coupon. Don't shop without it. read more

Two words: Custom Framing. The framing lady at this Michaels blows everyone else out of the water. Her attention to detail and true passion for her job is evident in everything she does. I came to this Michaels awhile back to inquire about framing a painting that a relative had done. She took the time to talk to me about the painting and really think about how it could be framed to make it even more special. I recently returned with two other pieces, which I was equally impressed with. In a time when everyone is always looking for the quick, cheap solution it is absolutely refreshing to be helped by someone with genuine concern and pride in their work. Worst Michaels'ever. Terrible customer service. Do not order stuff to "pick up in store". First they call me to say the order is ready for pick up but they only had 2 of the 3 items. Than I don't hear from them in over 2 weeks. I called the store was on hold for over 20 minutes without getting an answer. I go to the store again after I talked to someone online, was told my item was there but I get to the store and they still have no idea where my item was. I will never bring my business here again nor will I encourage friends or family to spend money here. They are notorious for being ridiculously expensive with framing and I will pay for very nice pieces of work to be framed by them due to the quality they claim to have. However, the framing "manager" is a completely miserable girl who needs to go take a course on dealing with people. I get she is miserable and I would be too if I were here. But please don't take it out on the costumers. I guess she is sick of people coming in and finding out how the framing shop is a rip off. When I asked her about a sale she basically stated I didn't know how to read then proceeded to talk about me after I walked off ( not knowing my friend was right there). When I told the main manager about her attitude he was too pre occupied yelling at the other employes for being lazy and not opening registers. This place just screams professionalism... NOT. I don't foresee this craft store open much longer due to everyone I know complaining about it. I'm taking all my business to Gordon's from now on. read more

Horrible customer service at this Michaels. They won't bother to look through their inventory for extra supplies or help you find your items. To be honest, they don't look very happy there. Every time I stop by, the sales representatives all look dead in the face, no smiles or greetings at all. Yes I understand that the job may be hard or uninteresting but please, it is still your job , so do it properly. I once called them to make sure they had the item on stock and tell me why I was on hold for a good 10 minutes. Don't expect great service when visiting; it'll just ruining your experience when you're disappointed by the horrible customer service. read more

Michael's framing in Metairie is my only choice when getting my artwork framed. I appreciate the advice and opinions from the framers on what works best with the artwork. It can be so confusing and intimidating with all of the available mats and frames but the knowledgeable framers help narrow down the options with consideration of my choices and personal interests in style. I am a shopper and like to research products and pricing before I buy, I have found that Michael's has comparable pricing to other shops but offer better products and more options for comparable products. I have gifted many framed items from Michael's and everyone has loved the mat choices and frames that the framers helped me choose and many of these people have since had their own things framed here. Although sometimes framing can be expensive, I have always found that the employees are helpful in advising about custom framing discounts that are available and there are often discounts on frames throughout the store as well (just recently 60% off!). I was able to stock up on frames for small Christmas gifts for friends and family, very affordable. I also had something framed the week of Christmas and although I wasn't scheduled to receive it until after the holiday, I was very excited to receive a call that it was finished just in time! Many times that I go shopping, I sometimes feel taken advantage of when I am being up-sold without being offered cheaper options but I have had the opposite experience at this frame shop. I once brought in an old art piece that had been framed since I was a child, it was out dated and beat up (scratches and loose corners) from sitting in the attic through Hurricane Katrina. I expected to be told that it needed a new custom ordered frame and it would be more expensive than I could afford at the time. The framer instead helped me choose new mats and I was able to keep the same frame I brought in. When I picked up my artwork the framer had taken it upon herself to tighten the frame and repaint it like new! I was so happy that they had taken the extra step to make my frame look nice with the new mats even though I didn't spend the extra money for a new custom one. Its these little things that provide me confidence in my purchases when having frames done at Michael's. I have always been happy with my finished product when having something framed here and am very happy with the suggestions I receive from the framers when I cant decide what to choose. Also I love the feature they offer where they can take a picture of the samples you choose and show you the basic result of what the finished product will look like before you purchase it. I will be returning to Michael's for any of my framing needs in the future! read more

The framing manager at the Veterans store, Jess, is a great asset to the store. She not only has incredible talent but she's a breath of fresh air and gives me hope in humanity.
