This is a pretty awesome, authentic, town tap. Full of locals having a drink or two or 12. Cute…read moregirls tending bar. Add in a few random visitors like me drinking after a day of Turkey hunting or Trout fishing or whatever. You won't get a second look sitting at the bar in full camouflage- a real country place. On a Saturday night EVERYBODY for miles around ends up here. So I have many reasons for really liking this place myself: 1st- at the Gays Mills apple fest this bar had a "float" in the parade. The coolest thing ever- an early 70s Olds 442 with a "Halvers Tap" sign taped to the door (see pics), doing massive burnouts, then slamming on the brakes. Repeat this all around the block. Really awesome. I discussed how impressed I was with Mr. Halver the other night and he told me they'd gotten an 82 year old friend to drive and do the burnouts last year- how do you beat that? You can't- period. Also, this place is pretty hard drinking and rock-n-roll! The juke box is loaded with interesting, pretty hard music and the staff is into it. I heard one dude defend his recent Poison selection as "kind of old school." haha- great! But really, Poison's about the worst crap in there. And they have a regular dude who hangs out back hustling pool games. I swear to God this dude is Satan- skinny with long dark hair, dark shifty eyes, fair skin, sleeveless t-shirt, prison tattoos, missing teeth, the works. I looked at him for quite a while because he looked so familiar, but I've never met him I'm sure. Satan has that effect on a person I hear. So yeah, Halver's Tap is cool- you'll meet lots of interesting locals, get ripped on cheap beer, and have an all around good time.

Halver's Town Tap is still the place to drink in Gays Mills, WI. It's the only bar left but rest…read moreassured it's not going anywhere. Plus they are adding LIVE Music at the beer tent on Friday night at Apple Fest 9/23/2011. The Pie City Twisters will be cranking out classic rock. Laura's kid brother will be spinning inside. Saturday night Beer Tent is local favorites the Dr. Rumley Snuff Band. This is a huge beer tent, lot's of room to move around and dance and not suffocate with wall to wall people. Check out Apple Festival 9/23-25th. It's still one of the best small town festivals in Wisconsin and you can't go home without apples from the Orchards on the Ridge. more info on www.facebook.com/gaysmills.wi

We specialize in farm-to-table cuisine, sourcing the finest seasonal produce and proteins from trusted local growers... This is a complete lie. There is no farm-to-table food here. There is freezer-to-microwave food, and the worst, most god-awful food at that. I was misled to believe that their mac and cheese was house-made. So, I was so confused when it was only offered on the menu as a side. I love mac and cheese, and really wanted a taste, so I asked if I could have an entree instead. Let's pause here for a sec. All the food they serve here is pre-portioned, pre-packaged, pre-made, and then microwaved. There is no cook or chef on the premises. This became very evident. Instead of a cheesy, appetizing mac and cheese, I got a plate of grey - yes, grey - overcooked, soggy noodles with no cheese and no sauce. It tasted so horrendous, it was inedible. I think the mac and cheese side was probably OK, and they had no idea how to prepare my request for an entree, let alone boil pasta. I had to send it back. Same story with the pizza. Another pre-portioned, pre-made frozen pizza that was microwaved before serving was so disgusting, we couldn't stomach it. The cheese curds, on the other hand, were delicious. So if you stick with the cheese curds, you're good. But the rest of the menu was mostly crap. The fact that the server couldn't tell us there were specials, and that when I ordered an entree of mac and cheese she grimaced and braced herself as she delivered it to the table, just made it extra special. As a server, you really can advise a customer when there is an item they should just not order on the menu. This is how dishonest the place is. Then, they'd have to admit that there is really nobody cooking back there in the kitchen the fake farm-to-table food.
