Went there to get my hair done for homecoming. I had two pictures of similar but different hairstyles that i was still deciding between, so i asked the stylist which one she liked or though would work better on my hair. She picked the more complex of the two. When she was done, it did not resemble the picture at all. By the time i had gone home, the curls had completely fallen out of my hair and it looked i'm even worse. A family friend had to come over and redo, complete waste of $75. That was my first time getting my hair done, and i do not have any intention of going back, nor would i recommend anyone i know to go there. read more

Im a local esthetician and I thought I'd check Michaels out. I'm really only giving this place a four star rating because my experience with Pat was amazing. I got a one hour massage yesterday 4/3/17 and she did a phenomenal job, very professional. However, the front desk staff were not the friendliest, or most knowledgeable... After my service was complete I walked out and the woman checking me out didn't say one word to me or ask me how my experience went, she continued to print my receipt and said have a good day. I then asked her do I tip here or somewhere else? She kinda looked at me in an annoyed way and said, here is fine... so, my LICENSED massage therapist wouldn't have gotten tipped had I not known the importance of a tip if I wasn't asked. I then continued to ask what kind of skin care they used for facials (was interested in getting a relaxing facial) and not one person knew what it was? Just a little confusing, if you work there I'd assume you'd know what one kind of product the skin care therapists use. read more

I was referred to Michael's Salon from a friend after my stylist relocated out of state. She did an okay job on cutting my hair but I was not overly impressed. So, after a couple of cuts I thought I would try someone new.I did enjoy the atmosphere at Michael's so I decided I would try someone there instead of searching out a new salon. Her name is Maddie. I do believe she is still employed by Michael's. My experience with Maddie was one of the worst of my life. My hair was extremely uneven and choppy.It did not at all resemble the picture I took to her. Ultimately,I lost about five inches of hair. And because her lack of talent with thinning shears my ends were frazzled and looked mangy. It took many agonizing months to regrow. Michael's does offer a free re cut if you if you are unsatisfied. However, I could not justify returning to the same person to fix what they ruined. No, thank you! read more

I've run the gauntlet of south Dayton hair salons. Trust me, Hausfeld''s deserved to close. I enjoyed Bellagio, but always running at least a half hour late and my stylist refused to change my hair color because he knew my DH (he also cut his hair) liked it the color it was. Hello! Who's paying for this? So I moved on. Went to Square One, but my first experience there was unfortunate--my stylist--or someone nearby---had terrible gas and the 90 minutes I spent in that chair was TORTURE! I will say the shampoo chairs and the head massage you get was to die for. But I was just turned off by the moment. So I get talked into going to Michael's. I hate Michael's. The place is a cavernous warehouse, the walls are painted to guarantee you are going to look sickly, and if it wasn't for this little stylist named Katie Acre who gave me the BEST COLOR AND CUT I have had in a decade, I'd never set foot in there again. I thought it had to be a fluke. So I go again. And I swear, I walked out of the salon, went to shop next door and got stopped in the aisle at Earthfare by some lady who raved about my hair color. So I don't love Michael's, but I LOVE the skills of the girl who cuts and colors my hair and that's where she is and that's where I am for the moment. I have been to this Salon several times, after my stylist had left I had to find a new stylist but this salon has the keratin treatment that I like (that is really expensive) So I had a previous highlight that had grown out - I scheduled to get my hair re-highlighted and the keratin treatment. The guy I got highlighted my hair - only the regrowth so the top was super bright and there was a very visible line where it was so bright and my other ones were not. So he had to go through and try to re-highlight again.. while processing he said he had to give me to someone else because he had another client coming in.. The other girl dried me and my hair looked hideous and dead.. she had to go in and put darker lowlights in the top to blend my hair (She said she wouldn't feel comfortable with me leaving the salon looking how I did.) She didn't have time to do the Keratin treatment and didn't think my fried hair would be good with it... Then when I go to pay... THE OWNERS WIFE TRIED TO TELL THE GIRL THAT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE CORRECTION!!!???? I DID NOT MESS UP MY OWN HAIR? I WAS SO OUTRAGED SO SHE JUST MADE ME PAY FOR THE HIGHLIGHT - Which I shouldn't of anyway. I WILL NOT GO BACK TO THIS SALON -- OVERPRICED AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

Buyer beware! My husband bought me a massage gift card and I scheduled my appointment. An employee from Michaels called the day before and left me a message confirming my appointment. However, when I arrived the next day I had no appointment. I was told there was a glitch and the appt got cancelled somehow. So much for my relaxing massage! I had to reschedule a massage and was told the manager would call me. He never did. My husband called and talked to the manager and was told there was nothing he could do for us except sell us another gift card for $60. Really? Horrible customer service! We will never go back. Recommendation: DO NOT GO THERE! My wife just had a terrible experience at Michael's today. A friend of hers highly recommended visiting and since we're fairly new in town and are looking for a good spa and salon for hair cuts and massages, she scheduled a hair cut this morning for 12:30. When she got there, she was fairly impressed when they offered her complimentary new guest bag, drink, and ushering her into their seating/bar area assured her stylist, McKenzi, would be with her shortly. But don't be fooled. Some 15 mins later she was still waiting. A sign posted by her table told her to contact the front desk if she had waited for more then 10 mins. Since we're headed down to Cinci today, she figured she'd let them know after waiting for 15 mins. The manager assured her again that McKenzi would be right with her. About 10 mins later, a stylist called her name "Jennifer" and walked up to her - as the only Jennifer in the waiting area, my wife handed the stylist her check in card only to be told, "no you're not the right Jennifer" - the gal left, then came back 5 mins later and called "Jennifer" again and no one answered. By this time, my wife had waited 30 mins and got up and left stopping by the front desk to let them know that she had been waiting for 30 mins. Apart from a limp apology at the front desk, nothing else was said or done to fix the problem. Intrigued at how a salon could afford to loose a new customer with so many other spas around and truly wanting to give them another shot, my wife called back, tried to speak with a manager and got put on hold by Bethany at the front desk. Outcome? She got hung up on. Now frustrated and really wanting to talk to a manager, my wife called again and finally spoke with the same guy who had assured her that her stylist would be with her shortly. After a myriad of excuses about it being prom weekend etc, he finally apologized and promised to "take better care of her next time." Listen, Michael's, there won't be a next time for us, she gave you four shots to get it right! The real kicker was the manager kept shortening her name to Jen even after she explicitly said, "my name is Jennifer, don't call me Jen" - after she thanked the manager for listening, and as she was hanging up, he again said "bye Jen"! Have been going to Michael's since the late 1980s. Last night I went to get a hair trim, told the stylist to "leave the length, just trim up the top" but she didn't listen. She cut off all the length at my neckline, the hair is now shorter on the left side of my head, and I could barely get my hair around a round brush this morning. I spoke to a manager this morning and she said they don't provide refunds but will gladly give me get a consultation with a top stylist to look at different styling options. I told her that I have about 2 inches of hair on the sides to work with at this point - I don't care how good a stylist is, there's NOTHING they can do, short of putting in extensions! I also said that if this is the way they treat a loyal customer, then I 'm taking my business elsewhere. I booked my next appointment at Carrie Taylor's salon at The Greene in Beavercreek. Carrie was my stylist back in the 80s and 90s at Michaels and she left, but now owns her own salon. read more

Terrible. I went in for a Devacut for my curly hair and did not receive one. I chose this salon based on the fact that they are listed on the Devacurl website as having stylists that are trained in this technique located in Dayton. My whole haircut was done in 5 minutes. She basically cut all my hair off in two snips, then cut 5 more places and was done. A Devacurt is supposed to be at least an hour and a half to two hours long and cut only curl by curl based on the curl formation. When I called later to see if they would at least recut my bangs, I was told I would be charged for a whole new haircut ($40), even though I just wanted my bangs cut. The receptionist had told me that she would leave a message for a different stylist asking her to call me back to see if there were any other options. I never received a call back. I am extremely disappointed by their customer service and will not be back to this salon ever. read more

I never ever leave bad reviews for any company but this visit warranted one! I waited almost 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment time, when the stylist (Kylie) finally came over she was very friendly. However, upon sitting me in the chair I showed her a picture of what I wanted, I was cutting about 5 inches off and just wanted a simple blonde balayage. I have dark hair originally but have gone back and forth between blonde many many times to know that it is possible! Right after she took a whole 1 second glance at the picture I showed her she disappeared and went to mix color, never consulted me about anything or what color she was going to use or what would look best etc. nothing. She then instead of cutting and thinning my hair first, she decided to color.. It took her 2.5 hours to foil my hair. Then she decided she was going to do a color express at the sink and said it would have to stay on for 7 minutes.. She came back not even 3 minutes later and rinsed it, no toner nothing. Then she cut my hair and blow dryed. The first glance in the salon it honestly didn't look like she did anything. The color looked exactly the same as it did when I walked in. At that point I had been there for approaching 3 hours and had to leave to get my son so I said whatever at least it's not terrible. I then get to the check to find out she charged me $140 for my hair, then I left and looked at it on the natural light and my hair was dark ORANGE. I had no time to go back and no time to go get it fixed today. Needless to say I paid $140 for a hair cut because I now have to just go back to brown considering she made me look like a cheetah. Very very disappointed. read more
