DO NOT HIRE ERICA RIOS…read more This attorney took $5,000 from my family for a high-stakes custody case involving false abuse allegations, CPS investigations, and ongoing Interference with "Court-Ordered Possession/Access" under the Texas Penal Code § 25.03. Even after my most recent temporary hearing court-ordered rights, and did absolutely nothing. She never filed a single motion. She never sent documentation (including the closed El Paso CPS report). She never gave a billing breakdown, despite multiple requests. She communicated through my father, not directly with me. She tried to withdraw without cause, and I'm still listed as her client because I refused to sign off on her abandonment. I've had to go pro se and file my own enforcement and contempt motions just to protect my time with my daughter. The State Bar failed to act on my first grievance, so I've now filed complaints with the Texas Attorney General and District Attorney for misrepresentation, fraud, and dereliction of duty. If you are dealing with a family matter, especially one involving children. STAY FAR AWAY from Erica Rios. She will take your money and leave you alone in the most critical moment of your life.

She made it feel that something could be done with what we felt was a stressful and impossible case. She assured us that we were not alone in our particular situation and was very calming, yet professional. She was very knowledgeable and experienced. At the same time, she was very honest about what the worst case scenario would be and patient with answering and explaining all of our many questions. She, unlike many lawyers that we have had prior experience with, would be prompt to return our calls, e-mails or letters. We were never left in the dark. In addition to that, her office assistant was very pleasant and relatable. Overall, she made a bad situation not so bad. We highly recommend her.

His advice was to plead guilty.... He sent a kid that I had never meant to represent me on my day in court. I'm sure he would work hard for you if you paid him more money but he just wants to take it. Don't plan to pay the minimum they ask so they do the bare minimum. They'll just screw you over.

I contacted this attorney when I knew I was getting served on a matter. The office took my $250…read moreconsult fee and couldn't tell me when the attorney would call but said he would. He did! Same day! It was a 30 min consult but the Attorney wanted to see paperwork first. He asked that I upload the documents into their client portal and to call him back. He even gave me his number. That was definitely cool. We talked for 12 minutes so he said I could call him back with no extra charge. At this moment I LOVE this lawyer. The following week I did as I was told and uploaded the documents so he could see. I texted instead of called him so that he'd know the documents were there. I called his office also to tell his staff I needed a call back, I didn't want him to miss my text. I got deployed for the inauguration and hadn't heard from the office or him. My answer was due on the following Monday and I desperately called his office back. He finally called. I had interviewed 3 attorneys and although I did like the other attorneys, my intention was to hire this one because I liked his confidence. My perception of him changed on our final call. I guess he thought I didn't want to pay him, he kept alluding that I wanted him to do work and he wasn't retained. Although true, I never had an opportunity to retain him because his staff nor him ever called me. And I had a text to prove I asked him for a call back. He didn't want to acknowledge that his office dropped the ball. Or take responsibility. That was a turn off. I definitely see how some reviews perceive him as rude. He's just very direct. Definitely my fault for not going else where after the first week of not getting a call back. But since I never got the full 30 min paid consult and he asked that I call him back,I did that. Overall, I will say, he's busy. He definitely doesn't remember what your conversation was. He is forthcoming about not being a family law attorney. He actually did offer to take my case the day of and worked out a sweet arrangement but luckily for me the case had been closed. His first Impression is perfect! Ending kinda harsh. I say if you need TLC he probably isn't the right attorney for you.

Not a single meaningful advancement in my case occurred despite this substantial investment. What's most troubling is how extraordinarily sensitive this attorney was to client feedback. When I simply requested more assertive representation after months of inaction, Mr. Rey terminated our relationship THE VERY NEXT DAY via email. He didn't even give me the courtesy of a phone call after working together for months and taking thousands of my dollars. No discussion, no attempt to address concerns - just immediate termination. This experience taught me a harsh lesson: after paying thousands of dollars and investing months into your case with this attorney, you can be dropped without warning if you dare to question the effectiveness of the representation. I had to start completely over with a new attorney, causing significant additional expense, stress, and delays. If you're considering hiring representation that welcomes client input or expects results for your money, my experience suggests you should look elsewhere. In my opinion, an attorney who abandons a client immediately after receiving feedback demonstrates that collecting fees is far more important than client satisfaction or professional responsibility.

I asked to speak to James Rey to see if we could clear what ever misunderstanding there was as I was not in a good position on my case but he refused to assist. She has issues and if you don't bend to her will, meaning years of paying her she will quit on you. Be careful out there. It took 5 min for this lady to just kick me to the curb. I had to hire someone asap and pay another deposit and this caused more stress, heartache and of course more money. I had read several reviews about her quitting, but I never thought it would happen to me but unfortunately it did. Beware.....
