I think it comes down to the staff and the director/owner, George. The staff is top notch and George is an experienced, extremely talented, caring and passionate person who is one of those people that is just incredible at teaching and coaching children. It's like there's some magic dancing dust at Royalenova that they sprinkle on the kids! I was looking for something to do with my oldest daughter when she was 2.5yo and I found a dance class at Royalenova. I was shocked after a few classes when I saw on the video monitor that the kids were lined up dancing perfectly like little dolls! And my highly active, spirited, girl loved it... she did recreational classes until this, her first year of competing at 7yo. Both the recreational program and competition program are excellent. I was hesitant about getting into competition dance, but after being around the studio and getting to know some of the older girls and getting a feel for it, all of my fears were put at ease. There is a huge emphasis on connection and team, self-expression, character and integrity, technique and self-discipline, as well as body positivity and really just tons of fun. If you are considering this studio, I would come in and check it out and maybe watch some videos of the kids performing. Like I said, there's something different about Royalenova- it's the best of the best in so many ways! My daughter would spend all of her time there if she could! We attended about twice a month covertly, not telling any family or friends what we were doing until the big day when we actually walked into the event and started our number. Joss was so pleasant and patient. She apparently has a big résumé, having danced with some big acts of which she never spoke until we asked her the last day there. She is humble and sweet and always has a smile on her youthful face. She is a great dancer and teacher and it was our great luck to have gotten hooked up with her for our blessed event. His drum teacher, Ryan, is absolutely amazing. He reinforces what my kid does well and encourages him to push himself and try new genres. He advocates for him to find songs that he likes and can do at just a little bit above his current level, so every season he grows. Not only does he help my kid with the rock performance, he is incredibly knowledgeable about NYSSMA and concert band performance. Then, COVID happened. SoR did not skip a beat. Online classes were about as good as online classes could be. And as soon as they could get back in person, they developed an impressive plan that met and far exceeded all safety recommendations: distancing; masks when possible, pods when not; temperature checks; outdoor concerts; microphone sanitation...every concern I could have thought of and more.
