Michel's Patisserie has been with me since I was at school, when I would finish up my day at school, get on the train back to the 'hood, and drop by Michel's for a sausage roll or something equally unhealthy, loiter at the local shopping centre for a bit then go home.
That was a different time and a different Michel's but the one in Barkly Square in pretty much the same deal, and it feels just as naughty eating one of their sausage rolls or chicken pies as it used to.
The problem is Michel's at Barkly Square is in the thoroughfare between my grocery store and supermarket and one end of the shopping centre, and the Asian supermarket at the other end of the shopping centre, which means I have to walk past the hot food counter at Michel's to get anywhere. And I know you're not meant to go food shopping when you're really hungry, but that is usually the trigger for me - hungry, no food at home, go to supermarket.
So yes, I do sometimes let temptation win over steely resolve and I'll get a mini sausage roll to keep me company on my walk from Coles to the Asian supermarket. It doesn't taste anything special, it is certainly not gourmet, but it does remind me of finishing up at school for the day. read more
